I'm almost convinced it's the reduced oestrogen that's causing my migraines as I've only been having them about 18m and at the time of my cycle that oestrogen is reducing. I was quite surprised that she said my migraines would potentially prevent HRT rather than be a reason to take it
I’m not on HRT but earlier in my peri menopause journey I had terrible migraines but they did eventually stop, so it must be all the hormones and the peaks and drops in estrogen.

I hear this so often, but just can't imagine not drinking anything at all the whole evening! But then I'm sick to death of waking up in the early hours for a wee.

Do you not have a sip of water or anything?
No, nothing and it’s honestly fine. I have a decent drink with dinner then nothing. That feeling of waking up and realising you’ve actually had a full 7/8 hours is definitely worth it for me. I’m not weird about it, if I go out then I have a drink.

Does anyone get horrendous anxiety with their peri ?
I’m struggling with some hideous anxiety symptoms.
The ‘am I going crazy’ thoughts are bleeping awful

Sorry if this has been asked before but I'm 46 with lots of peri symptoms including awful heavy periods, migraines and terrible sleep.

I've just had a really positive supportive discussion with a prescribing nurse. She's recommended mirena coil and estrogen but wants to check about the potential of estrogen making migraines worse.

Anyone had this? And any advice re starting HRT? I feel lucky she listened but now I'm a bit panicky and thinking my symptoms aren't that bad!!
I was having frequent, awful migraines before I went on HRT - I’m 42 and peri. Since starting the patches I rarely get them anymore, I’ve only had a few when I’ve been really stressed and haven’t slept well. So in my experience, taking extra estrogen helps. I think the migraines are caused by fluctuating estrogen, especially when it drops. The HRT helps maintain a higher, more consistent level.

That's what I thought the nurse would say. She's happy to give me HRT but wants to get the right oestrogen for me

Well after a couple of years of waking up at night I can conclude that the thing that's actually made the biggest difference and made me sleep through the night was not drinking anything after 7pm. I stay in a deeper sleep and then my brain doesn't start whirring....
May I ask what time you go to bed? So nothing to drink after 7 not even water? Do you wake up in the morning feeling thirsty? I’m so conditioned into drinking water all hours of the day that I can’t imagine not drinking water right up until bedtime. That said, I used to sleep 8 hours.+ every night apart from the occasional toss n turn night, now it’s a pee break in the middle of the night most of the time. 😓

To be fair she was really good and I've seen 4 Doctors who have fobbed me off previously so I'm more than happy with the advice she's given just after a bit of reassurance I think! I think im scared of starting HRT in case I feel worse than I do as my symptoms feel manageable at the moment!
Do you have an aura before the migraine starts ? If so I was told no to oestrogen as can make it worse and cause strokes but it is ok for migraine without aura. Oestrogen can also cause withdrawal headaches when you have off weeks which feel a lot like a migraine (I used to get them when I was allowed the combined pill). I am allowed the progesterone only pill instead which up until recently has been good for peri symptoms. No bleeding or flushes and no very occasional night sweats.

I think we’re all conditioned to drink constantly but I drink the recommended amount, just nothing after 7. I’m lights out at about 11.

A dry mouth would wake me instead

I'll try that tonight, thanks. I've had weeks of waking up numerous times through the night then shattered before the day starts
Well, no drink after 7, bed at 11 then sleep not long after and I slept much better with not getting up for the toilet. Had my usual bottle of water by my bed but didn't have any and was no thirstier than usual when I woke up an hour ago

Why is the nurse only looking at the oestrogen and nor the progesterone? If they're recommending the coil then they're giving you synthetic progestins not actial progesterone plus if it doesn't suit you, you need to get it removed so can't control yourself. Personally I'd be asking for body identical micronised progesterone capsules alongside a form of transdermal oestrogen as these will mimic what your body naturally produced.

had a gp visit today! i am planning a full blood panel at another clinic later in feb! waiting on my app.

but went to my Gp because i wasn’t sure if my other symptoms were linked. skin reactions to products i’ve always used then no reaction another day. mid sex bleeding (have had before and all checked out) absolutely exhausted tired, cold all the time, random bloating and feeling like i’m full of wind.
the skin reactions are really bothering me and i don’t know what to do. i’m using a sulphate and paraben free shampoo and after washing my hair my face looks scalded and by tomorrow it will be flaky and still red. i’m at a stage where im washing my hair twice per week max.

gp offered no advice! said to continue using the shampoo cause he heard its good! wtf
