It is just dreadful- I have been peri for about two years but recently it has been so much worse
Went to the doctors and got HRT patches which stopped the dark thoughts/ anxiety after abit

Now my periods are off scale
Every two weeks and just awful
The lining that I am shedding is incredible ( not large pieces but loads and loads)
Very very heavy periods
And I am so tired snd my bones are aching so much
I live in a three story house and it takes me all my time to get up the stairs some days

So fed up with it all

Am on iron tablets and HRT
Next step I think a coil ?

Anyone had one and it has made any difference?

Been months since I felt well
Just so drained
Any other ideas please that eases it?
Are you able to go on the progesterone only contraceptive pill? I am on that as I bleed so easily, as one of my peri symptoms.

So i take a contraceptive pill in the morning, and for my HRT element, I have the twice weekly estrogen patches and then progesterone pill of evening.

I have continuous HRT and continuous contraceptive pill, it seems the only way so far to stop my bleeding.

I have heard the coil is good to stop peri bleeding and its also part of the HRT regime.

It's such a nightmare to navigate

Sorry if I’ve missed any discussions but does anyone here have any experience of perimenopause and high blood pressure?

I just had to submit 3 readings to my GP and I am shocked at how high they are. I am quite annoyed actually as I am so moderate in everything and I exercise regularly. I admit to having to quit the butter and hidden salt probably is catching me out - or at least there’s likely an under estimation of how much salt I’m taking in - but ffs. I eat mostly chicken and fish, good intake of veg, one coffee a day, one bottle of red wine over the course of a weekend, no smoking. I am borderline terrified to consume anything but fruit and nuts 🥵

The link between perimenopause and hypertension is quite interesting and obvs I had never effing heard of it. Happy birthday day to me tomorrow with a banana for brekkie and lunch and some grilled chicken and water for tea. Christ.

I am on the progesterone only pill (the contraceptive one) without HRT and it stops my periods pretty much totally. I have been told I can stay on it until I am 55 and I don't really get any side effects. I also have B12 jabs and they have made a huge difference to my joint pain, tiredness and brain fog so maybe ask for a blood test.

It's an interesting question. I've always had normal BP (checked regularly with being on the pill). I had a stroke 3 months ago and subsequently found I had elevated BP needing treatment, though not excessively high. I was gutted as I had a relatively healthy diet and exercised regularly. There is no reason why I should have high BP given my lifestyle so am now questioning if its yet another peri symptom🙄

Oh gosh! How are you now?

I don’t want to let myself off the hook, I’ve instantly gone hard on the DASH diet but I am honestly so surprised by these results.

I would encourage ladies to do some BP monitoring - there’s really no symptoms. And if you’re merrily thinking you largely tick the healthy lifestyle boxes it just wouldn’t occur to anyone.

(Obvs this might not be down to perim for me but nonetheless I’ve learnt there’s a link).

What are your readings?

I didn’t know there was a peri link but my cholesterol went high in peri and there is a link but the Nurse at my GP said she had never heard of it!

My husband has familial hypertension. I think for some you can be as healthy as you can but it’s genetics.

Which iron are you taking? I just started iron bisglycinate with vitamin c, and when I take it the bleeding is at least 50% reduced and I remember that when I took high dose vit c another period it helped. So it may be the iron too but I think the vit c may help if yours doesn’t have it in. I’m on about day six of taking it and I can actually do stuff. I felt like I was fading away recently, barely able to do much and so breathless.

I had the coil fitted in January after 3 months on the progesterone only pill. I had mild spotting last month. I was still bleeding on the pill, but that may have been related to also being on mounjaro
I'm now on the estrogen patches too. Been about 2 weeks. I definitely am feeling the benefits from them both. I'm less tired and starting to feel more like my old self. Although my brain fog is off the charts (I also take adhd meds) and that's not working as I can't cycle my dosages properly 🙃
I have been on blood pressure meds for about 2 years too, my diastolic is the problem, hence the jabs to try and lower my weight to help. It's not come down as much as I would have liked and now wonder if it's a mix of other things.

The coil though was the best thing I have done with regards to my periods and perimenopausal symptoms.

I have high cholesterol too. There is history of coronary heart disease on my mum’s side, but it has tended to be a male thing. I googled it and it said that high cholesterol can occur in peri. I also saw a comment on TikTok today saying that high cholesterol is common in women with eating disorders because they have low estrogen which is needed to maintain healthy cholesterol.

I'm fine now, I feel pretty much back to normal but its left me feeling very cautious. In my case it turns out I have a PFO (hole in the heart) so its likely that was the reason for the stroke rather than purely lifestyle, though obviously BP was a contributing factor. I'm terrified it'll happen again, despite being on loads of meds. I never thought it could happen to me.

I am so glad to hear that - but yes terrifying, I completely understand. I am a bit panic-ed myself x

My readings were 141/67, 149/97, 148/97. I’m 48 tomorrow with no health concerns. 3 years perimenopausal, hot flushes ago-go but not the whole 3 years.

Yes, family history of heart issues on the paternal grandparents side.

See what your GP says but don’t be panicking too much.

How often are you getting your B12 jabs? I asked for them before my doctor put me of HRT patches and she said wait until that’s settled in before deciding…but six months in and the tiredness is still there, might ask her again now you’ve reminded me.

Is there an app (preferably free) where you can record your symptoms daily? To see if it is peri menopause. To look at the overall picture.
There are days when I feel I’m not right, but when I think about it, it’s easy to attribute a symptom eg tiredness, to something else.
I don’t how much is enough and when to seek medical advice in this case. I’m only 41 so I feel I’ll be told I’m too young anyway.
The balance app is free and has lots of resources on it, not sure if it has a tracking function but a good place to start and has a list of all the 48 or so symptoms that could be due to peri.

I started off every week as my levels were so low, but now every 3 months. I had to take mega doses via tablet for a few months first to prove my stomach wasn't absorbing tablets before they would agree to the jabs. The doctor said I will be on them now for life ut they have made such a difference I don't care. I think some private clinics offer them too but mine are NHS.

Amazing, thanks a million and glad to hear that they’re having such a good affect! I’ll make an appointment with the GP and bring it up again…even if it’s to start with the tablet dose, it’s a start! 🙏🏼

My brain fog was terrible and it has improved so much (I had convinced myself I had early dementia). Energy levels are much improved and I just generally feel better. Good luck and push for the blood tests,

Mine went sky high and was diagnosed whilst at the GP for another reason.

I started blood pressure medication and then about 3 months later started HRT, the HRT has really helped my blood pressure and I was able to stop the tablets after about 6 months on HRT. I do take readings a few times a week to check that its still in normal ranges. But mine was a definite peri symptom.

That’s very reassuring to hear - thank you.

it’s all I can think about at the moment so I hope whatever the next bit is after submitting results happens quick.
