Have you other symptoms?
lots, hot flushes, overly emotional, sickness, anxiety so they put me on setraline and doc said it was because of a hormone imbalance but that was 2017. Bloating, gained over 2 stone and can’t shift it all round my middle.

I would ask for a 3 month trial on HRT to see if they help the symptoms.
Good luck

Haven't read all of the thread yet but one thing that distressed me a bit was the 'twang' in the head, a bit like an electric shock. It happened sporadically and started happening a few years before the actual menopause. I didn't tell the doctor so don't know for sure if this was linked to peri-menopause or not, but it would be interesting to know if anyone else experienced this 'twang'?
Yes but you get those when you’re coming off anti depressants aswell? I hate them, brain zaps I call them.

——-

I’m really struggling again, I’m waiting for blood test results because I felt so bad. I’m going to play my doctor up until I get some answers.

I get depressed so badly I think the mirena coil is causing it as it doesn’t suit everyone.
my oestrogel HRT was making me feel like I was losing my mind, with racing thoughts, although it made me feel a bit better at first.
my weight won’t shift no matter what I do.
I’m now on metformin because my sugar levels are creeping up.
one day I’m full of energy, the next I could stay in bed all day.
I’m so irritable 😡

I can understand why women leave home, get divorced or take their own lives when the menopause hits. It’s tit.

Your GP is a bleep and is not abiding by the NICE guidelines, forward them to him/her and ask why they haven't bothered to read about something that is going to affect 50% of their patients at some point in their lives, misogyny clear and simple.

Have you noticed that when there is an article about a woman leaving her family and bleeping off with a young waiter, the women are usually a certain age. Shirley Valentine was a menopausal woman:ROFLMAO:

7am and sitting here crying because the tiredness! Am barely getting four hours broken sleep a night, I could go to bed at lunchtime, and spend the rest of the day hating everyone who looks at me. I can’t stand any kind of noise, barely even watch the tv because I just need quiet.
(Have lots of other symptoms too but this is killing me at the moment.)

Has anyone tried the Health and Her supplements? I've ordered the multi-nutriants so interested to see if they'll make any difference. My symptoms come and go so I don't feel bad enough to go to the docs yet but could do with a little something.
Yes! I’ve been taking the ‘Perimenopause mind+’ ones for a few weeks and I do feel better for it. My hair is better as is my skin and I actually feel calmer - I was going from calm to FUMING in seconds for a while and that has rarely happened since I started on the supplements

Boots had a BOGOF on vitamins a couple of weeks ago and this was included.

I toss and turn until about 3am and then sleep soundly. If you left me I’d sleep until lunchtime then.

I wonder if there’s a correlation between puberty and the menopause. I struggled with puberty and have been depressed since then, so it’s no surprise I’m struggling through the menopause.

I might look into those then. You can just switch in seconds like you say can’t you? My poor hubby, I’m trying not to be crabby but what with a teenager in the house, they both get on every last nerve I have.

I read something recently that said the menopause is basically puberty in reverse which makes sense 😭 as if it wasn’t bad enough the first time round!

I’ve been having symptoms of Peri Meno for around 10months although my periods are still regular they have become increasingly heavy, mad period pains which I can only say feel like they did when I started my periods at 15, first day of period I’m pretty much laid up in bed with my hot water bottle popping paracetamol. Night sweats, broken sleep (anytime after 3am I get up as i can’t get back to sleep after that time), very vivid dreams, itchy skin, emotional, lack of energy, tiredness throughout the day, hot flushes, brain fog………
Thankfully my gp has been fantastic, when I first contacted them he sent me for bloods to rule out anything else and an internal scan. We then had a long conversation and he put me in touch with a nurse to discuss HRT. Decided against taking it for now as I was just relieved to know I wasn’t going insane but it’s there if and when I decide I want it.

I missed a period about a year ago and got all excited thinking it was near the end, but then they started up again like clockwork in the next month.

Now it looks as if I've missed a period this month too. Buuut - I still have the bloated stomach, lower back pain, gas and excruciating period pain! So bloody annoying.

I used to have extremely heavy periods that would last for at least five days; in the past couple of years these have whittled down to two-three days at most.

I really hope this is the end of it this time.

@Bellatrix Lestrange and this one. I had the same issues with work, owned a business, thought the business was the problem so sold it, got a job on the railway, hated it, quit then discovered I was going through menopause and found out that it was almost certainly that that was causing my depression. My general advice is that if you suddenly hate your job around your mid 40's/early 50's when you have been perfectly happy before then it is almost certainly your hormones and not the job.

I felt the same. I love my job and found myself wanting to call in faking sickness where i dreaded the thought of it. I don't even call in sick when I'm actually sick, so knew something was up.
I lost my joy with work and my personal life and it was becoming harder and harder to paint a face on to convince everyone, and myself that I was fine - I even found myself faking smiling and laughing just to appease others and it was the mental health dip that spurred me into starting HRT.
Thank god I did! 4 months on and I'm finding myself and joy again.

Side note.. I'm being told that Utrogestan 100mg capsules are on a nationwide shortage.
I was out an entire morning trying to source them and even then only manage to pick up half of what I was prescribed.
I actually panicked because I'm worried about going back to how I felt, so I'm really hoping that I can collect the other half of my script soon (or that's a waste of £18!) Or that the GP will find me an alternative - but then I worry an alternative might not work as well 😏

Thank you @Notworthy this is great! Didn't occur to me to look in Off Topic, being relatively new to Tattle.

I'm 50 and have been on HRT for about 5-6 years now, I get Bupa through work (luckily) and work have paid for the menopause add on which has been great - I've been speaking to specialist Menopause GPs which has helped. Though work don't pay for the £49 fee to speak to the doctor every time, ouch. I'm now on over the recommended dose of patches as my testosterone is so low they think my body is pinching it to make Eostrogen. We'll see how that goes.

Massive hugs to all of you who are finding the menopause crappy 🤗🤗🤗

Has anyone struggled with migraines when they're perimenopausal? Just had the 3rd migraine in 18 months never had them before. My head aches and then I'm violently sick and I can't move just need to lay down. My GP has told me at 44 I am too young (!!) but they will do another blood test but I cannot continue with these and the other symptoms, nighttime anxiety, insomnia which leads to hallucinations, general disinterest, no libido, acne on jaw line and awful periods and PMS to name a few. I'm literally at my wits end

My migraines went from once every few months to weekly last year for no obvious reason but i do think they are now hormonal and I’m possibly starting peri but at 42 by GP said there was no chance it was that and dismissed all symptoms. It’s very frustrating to be ignored and left to get on with things. I do find this thread and support pages on Facebook to be a great comfort and often other people sharing their experiences gives me hints and tips to try. After various preventatives all of which made me feel awful I’m focussing on supplements recommend on the migraine trust website and also had my iron levels checked and they were low. It seems we are best doing our own research as GPs are either not interested or lack any knowledge. I hope you find something to help soon x

Glad I found this thread! It’s helpful to know others are going though it and you aren’t alone.
Thankfully I don’t have too many symptoms.
Mine are hot flashes which aren’t really flashes bc they last for hours lol. Fun.
And my period has gone completely haywire. I have periods that last about 12-14 days. Then come back within a couple weeks, 3 weeks max. I should buy tampax stock lol with how many boxes of tampons I go through
The worst part is it will be super heavy for the first 6-7 days then something akin to heavy spotting. Joy.

I can’t do HRT bc I had breast cancer (first time in my 20’s then again early 30’s). I’m not looking forward to this lasting till my 50’s. oh, this started at 40 on the dot, I’m 44 now.

What are people’s periods like? I went on holiday in July. I was due to come on halfway through my holiday. I didn’t though and although it was lush I worried a bit. I usually know when I’m pregnant even before a missed period because I get sickness literally from the second of implantation. I was worried but kind of knew I wasn’t pregnant. The next period after that was like the end of a period, a bit brown and mucky. Since those my periods have been their usual cripplingly heavy horrific ones. I spoke with my doctor and she took swabs which were fine, said I’m at the premenopausal age 42 and put me on the mini pill. I think it was Cerezette. Any way I bled for 5 weeks on that so had to stop taking it My periods then went back to being horrifically heavy and what constitutes as ‘normal’ for me. This last period I’ve just had was probably the best period I’ve ever had in all of my 30 years of periods. Light, no dripping and no flooding tampons and towels. I’m just wondering if this is normal for perimenopause.

Yes it’s entirely normal. I sometimes miss a period but then get them monthly again. I never used to suffer badly with period pain but I do now and I never used to be very heavy but I am now. At the moment I’m missing one again but I’d rather have one as I just end up very bloated and get a low mood.

Might be a stupid question but I just wasn't sure....

If you pay to see a private menopause doctor or nurse do you also have to pay for the private prescription (barring testosterone)?

I get free prescriptions and just wondered, if in the near future, I decide on a private consultation and am prescribed HRT by them, will I need to pay for that, too?
