kind of.
I have hypermobility syndrome so it could also be related to that, but I've had a toothache in a front incisor for 2 years on and off. I've had every x ray going, my dentist is baffled. I started to keep a diary of when the pain was worse and it did coincide with periods. Asked the dentist and she said it could be hormonal and it wasn't unusual to experience hormonal tooth pain.
But.
The HMS means I get unexplained nerve pain, and it could well be stemming from my jaw and/or a nerve in there.

I take a supplement called Alpha Lipoic Acid. It's supposed to help with nerve pain and I have to be honest I've barely had issues since I've been on it (about 5 months). I get it from Amazon, take one a day. Could be complete bunkum but I'm relatively pain free so I keep taking it.

There's a menopause doctor on YT who is very good (but her videos and style of delivery is super annoying, which is a shame) and she highly recommends Alpha Lipoic Acid as a useful supplement.

Being a woman can be utter tit sometimes! I’m 42 and appear to be perimenopausal - for me the symptoms are back to what it was like when I started my periods at 11 until I went on the pill at 16 - stomach cramps, heavy periods and for the last six months, they came a day earlier each month (I could always track mine to 28 days). But I was almost caught unawares yesterday but thankfully I was at home.

The worst thing for me is the change in mood though, normally a week before my period but today I honestly felt I could bludgeon someone (nobody specific) - I was absolutely livid and suddenly what my husband bought me for Christmas was terrible! I have depression and anxiety anyway which can be bad at the best of times so I contacted my GP a couple of months ago and she honestly couldn’t wait to get me off the phone. She assumed I was after HRT when I only had basic internet research so I was happy to take her lead. She booked me a blood test, told me to buy some perimenopause supplements and that was that.

It turned out there was something else that came up in my blood and I was offered a face to face appointment - well obviously I thought I was dying because why else would a GP want to see me in person these days?! It was the same Doctor and she was lovely, we had a chat and I don’t know if it’s a placebo effect but I feel better with the supplements (well until today), but I hate this time of year so we agreed to leave the HRT just now and we can revisit it. Because I’m not dying, yay!

I have a lot of weight to lose and I don’t need any more obstacles with that tbh. It’s just so tit, I mean WTF?!

Thanks everyone for posting and being so honest, it’s good to know I’m not alone ❤

Urgh, I need to do some reading up on this thread. I started getting the teenage style horror periods a few years ago, but this year my cycle has gone crazy, I’ve skipped a period and this week mine was 8 days late, it was a week of torture, PMS, and I’ve started getting joint pain and tooth pain as part of the pms package.

I was trying HRT again and I’m on day 6 and I just feel rubbish. So depressed and thinking I’ll just deal with peri instead of this. Anyone on HRT alternatives?

You have to give it at least 3 months for your body to get used to it.
What HRT have you got?

Urogestron tablets x 2 a day for 2 weeks then 2 off. And a gel to use on daily basis.
How many pumps of gel are you doing.
HRT is so difficult because so little research has been done on hormones that nobody knows which hormone causes what symptoms. I've never had a hot flush, reading some articles, this means my Estrogen has stayed relatively high, other articles claim the opposite.

I’m doing two puffs on each leg. Goodness knows if it’s right. My gp said upto 4 puffs.
I don’t get hot flushes either. But do get dry skin, insomnia, brain fog and fatigue. I have pre-existing depression which is what I feel most at moment.

I would try 2 then. up to 4 means take that if you feel you need more.

4 is the max, that's a lot to start with. As above, drop down to 2

ETA Just found this article plus low progesterone is definitely the cause of insomnia Progesterone and the Nervous System/Brain - Women in Balance Institute
I'd be inclined to forget the Estrogen gel and just go with the progesterone or reduce the Estrogen to the absolute lowest, it is all trial and error. I was just given Estrogen because I have the mirena and I became suicidal, absolutely convinced I was already Estrogen dominant

Has anyone tried the Health and Her supplements? I've ordered the multi-nutriants so interested to see if they'll make any difference. My symptoms come and go so I don't feel bad enough to go to the docs yet but could do with a little something.

That’s a very high oestrogen dose to start with, 2 pumps is what is recommended by the manufacturer and then add more if needed, some people start with just 1 and work up. Your body will have been depleted of hormones for a while so a sudden big increase will shock it. That’s the same regime as me, it stopped my night sweats and physical symptoms within a few days / weeks but the anxiety and depression, lack of motivation took much longer and was a gradual improvement over about 6 months which was barely noticeable until I looked back. You definitely need to try for 3 months for your body to acclimatise

I’m so glad I found this thread. I’ve spoken to my gammon today (those on the KHM thread will understand) and have said I’m sick of being fobbed off by the GP and going to book a private appointment with a menopause specialist. I’m 42 and family history is early menopause but GP won’t entertain it saying I’m too young. I’ve got thinning hair, gained around 4 stone (admittedly that’s not all menopause it’s also me comfort eating from
Being depressed at how I feel in myself), lost all libido, anxiety off the scale at times, weird nausea like morning sickness at certain time of the month and the most unpredictable periods. Can go 8-9 weeks without one and then bleed for a month. I’m taking a SSRI already and take the progesterone only pill but I’ve decided I’m not going to just settle for feeling like this anymore. I want something that helps and also I want to lose weight as I think that would help with energy levels and feeling so crap about how I look!

I’ve literally said the exact same today. Sick of feeling like this and I woke up this morning and thought I’ve done two years of feeling like this and no more. I’ve paid off a few things in the last couple of months so have a bit of extra money each month and was going to have a bigger holiday but to be Frank, I’d rather forgo the holiday and feel better!

I was going to see a menopause specialist privately but we shouldn't have to. Maybe goo back to your GP with the NICE guidelines and have another conversation. Menopause can come to a woman at any age so to have a GP that adamant that it can't be because of your age could have repercussions for younger women. ‘I went through the menopause before my mum did’ - BBC News
