I'm just feeling a bit emotional, but my bf was with me and he was really supportive. I wear a UK size 8, so to be told I need to lose a few kgs was a bit shocking - although tbh, I do have this belly pouch that just can't seem be shifted! any advice anyone has in terms of anything I would really appreciate. I'm so glad there's a thread about it so I have people I can talk to who'll understand 💘
thanks to those who've replied x
I feel you here, I am also a size 8 but quite short so my weight is close to being overweight. Being told to try and lose weight is so distressing for me because I already eat low calories and exercise a decent amount, feels like I'd have to starve myself to lose anymore. ♥

I was diagnosed with PCOS at 16 (I am now 34) just had my second baby. Spent years on the pill, overweight, facial hair (shave daily) sweaty, low moods etc etc all the symptoms I have. I comfort eat and addicted to sugary foods so I thought I had no hope. Because of my hair colour laser hair treatment doesn’t work either.

I started taking metformin and after a month I had regular and monthly periods and 6 months later I found I was expecting my first baby.
After two years he was born, I went back on metformin, walked daily and lost 20kg and felt happier than ever. I also changed my diet to gluten & dairy free and low sugar. It is hard to make diet changes but it really did help me. I also take inositol.

PCOS is known as diabetes of the ovaries so if you follow a similar diet to diabetes it may help. It’s about regulating your hormones and your insulin levels through diet and movement.

Walking daily and yoga has really helped me and I use a cream for my face which has helped with facial hair but I still have to shave daily.

Last October I found I was pregnant again. It was such a surprise as I wasn’t trying but I was late with me period and did a test. My baby is 10 weeks old now and I’m back to sorting out my diet and exercise.

Being in my 30s I’m less hard on myself and feel so fortunate I’m married, have two beautiful babies and I’m in control of my diet and body. The shaving of my face daily really gets me down and I have days where I don’t want to leave the house so I take it easy on those days. I stock up on lots of treats (usually vegan as they are dairy free) to help those bad days.

I’m writing this as to hopefully give one person some hope. I can’t explain how severe my PCOS is but it is really bad and spent so many years hating myself. Even on my wedding day my nana said how fat I looked and I can’t look at my wedding photos anymore as I look awful. There is lots of help out and support.

What height are you? I'm not actually expecting you to answer that, your Dr has possibly been inappropriate with this advice but my niece is 5ft and wears a size 8 and she is a touch overweight, she hasn't been told to lose any weight by her GP though.

You have said you have a bit of a belly, which is a result of PCOS, I have it myself and it is difficult to get rid of it, I've tried for years. The best thing is to try and reduce your carbs, I've been using berberine for a few months and that has helped a little.
I'm just shy of 5'6, which is not small I know. Thank you for your reply and advice 💘

it's frustrating isn't it, especially when you know yourself if you're eating well and exercising. The symptoms are tit enough as it is!!

I was recently diagnosed and it has all sort of built up to me feeling really emotional about it today after seeing myself in a photo and having a secondary scan this week where the women looked concerned. I’ve been avoiding hormonal treatments due to past bad experiences. I tried a low form of Mayo-inositol for a few months and it did help me shift some weight but then with other stresses kept forgetting to take them and have seemed to come back on. Does anyone have any tips for weight loss, I don’t eat meat so thinking my carb heavy diet could be an issue? Can you be asked to be put on metformin as I’ve heard it works but haven’t been offered it just some active sessions that run during the work day

I think I might have PCOS but no idea where to start really. I've always suspected that i've had it but never dealt with it. Is it easier to go through your doctor or does anyone recommend going straight to a gynae specialist?

I went through my doctor, if you think you’ve got the symptoms then I’d just go from there and request bloods and an ultrasound 😊

I went through my GP and had no issues at all, they did blood tests and referred me for a scan, it was all quite quick! But I know other people aren’t as lucky with their doctors!

I went straight to a gynaecologist and it was through the ecography he saw the cysts - as I also have endometriosis, he wasn't necessarily looking for it but seeing if my endo had spread (I suspected I had pcos myself) but, yeah that's how it happened for me.

hi everyone! just wondering, do any of you take any supplements to help with symptoms etc and have you found them helpful and do any of you take alternative medication to the pill and how does that help you?
- interested to see bc I really hate being given a pill as the "only" solution 😒

Magnesium
Vitamin D
Myo-inositol (this is new to me)
Zinc
Evening Primrose
Omega 3

and I take metformin (this has helped insulin resistance and actually suppresses my hunger a bit) as a prescription! I do take the pill for context but plan to come off it in the next year as we’d like to try and have a baby and my endocrine consultant suggested coming off it soon for that reason. But Ive defo found differences from the above and introduced them one at a time. Magnesium helps with my tiredness as does the vitamin D, evening primrose for balancing hormones, zinc helps with skin and insulin resistance and a couple other things.

There’s others but look at healthy pcos on insta, pcos now mama, pcos nutritionist, etc and there’s loads of info there x

I can't stand how all the PCOS accounts seem to forget about tuberous breasts as a symptom (which I have) WTF.
For what what it's worth, reiki for pcos would be something to look into. There's some for free on Youtube x

Hiya, what myo-inositol brand are you taking please? I'm looking at MyOva but it is a little expensive at £32 a month, however if it helps my symptoms I'll be willing to give it a go.

What brand of inositol are people taking that are finding helps them? I've heard lots of good things about inositol for pcos and want to try it

I took myo-insositol i didn’t notice it helped my pcos drastically maybe helped weight loss but I was only on it just over a month and fell pregnant so stopped taking it when I found out. They do say it takes a few month to notice. I don’t know if it helped me convince or was just a coincidence but we had been trying for over a year so I definitely think it helped us catch on. Years ago I was on metformin I didn’t think that didn’t much for me apart from upset my stomach but everyone is different
