Thanks you both for replying 🙂

yep I had blood tests a couple of months ago and they didn’t show anything (I think they were looking for both PCOS and thyroid issues), but my GP thought that the scan would most likely confirm PCOS as she couldn’t think why else they would have stopped for so long (I came off my pill a year ago so they know that’s why they’ve stopped so suddenly but GP says that I should definitely have had regulated periods over the last 6 months). I guess I’ll have to wait until I see the gynae for any potential answers but I just know that’s going to be a while due to backlogs 😩
Correct me if I’m wrong but I swear sometimes periods can take anything upto a year to come back to normal? Especially if you’ve been on the pill a long time.

Do you have any of the other symptoms of PCOS that maybe you could push with them? Like excessive hair etc?

Have you had any blood tests done? Despite the name, you don't actually have to have polycystic ovaries to have pcos so you may have it. I believe you can be diagnosed if you have 2 out of the 3 main symptoms, so irregular periods, excess androgens and polycystic ovaries
I was wondering that, no blood tests at all. The gynae I'm seeing isn't the nicest or most patient but I'll try say to do them at the next appointment. Thanks a mill. This thread is so reassuring that it not in your head.

hi everyone! just wondering, do any of you take any supplements to help with symptoms etc and have you found them helpful and do any of you take alternative medication to the pill and how does that help you?
- interested to see bc I really hate being given a pill as the "only" solution 😒

I know you asked this a month ago but I recently had a private consultation with a GP. She was absolutely amazing and listened to my worries re weight gain, facial hair, lack of period.
She prescribed me medication for 14 days to induce a bleed. Has referred me to both gyno and endro and asked for my own GP to give me blood checks for diabete, thyroid etc.
It’s the first time since being diagnosed that I feel anyone has listened
I'm so happy you managed to find someone who sounds like they actually care about your wellbeing, every doctor I went to about my PCOS had no understanding of it and palmed me off at every opportunity. It's only recently when my husband suggested we should try a specialist that it occured to me to try again. I'm hoping to see a proper endo after my holiday.

Hey guys! I’ve recently just been for an ultrasound as I haven’t had a period since June 2022. The sonogram lady suspects I have pcos but needs to send the scans to my doctor for confirmation. I have been off contraception since January 2022 and we’d really like to start our own family. I’m just wondering if anyone has any positive pregnancy stories with having pcos? Just trying to find a glimmer of hope as it feels so gloomy at the moment
Not my own experience but my friend has pcos and got pregnant fairly quickly after coming off the pill. Someone else I know who has it fell pregnant after a couple of years of trying too

I’ve heard spearmint tea and oil is good for the symptoms of PCOS (helps with hormones and facial hair). Been drinking spearmint tea but don’t drink it everyday to really comment and going to try putting spearmint oil to see if helps with reducing facial hair.

I found out I had it about a month ago, three years after first going to a doctor about my symptoms! For some reason during my first lot of blood tests they didn’t think to test my hormones 🤦‍♀️

I know nobody has posted on here for a while but just thought I’d search for a PCOS thread on the off chance there is one, so pleased to find it!

I feel so so low at the moment about all of this as I am pretty certain I have PCOS but can’t get a diagnosis. Blood tests came back fine and ultrasound didn’t show multiple cysts - but they did say they didn’t get a very clear picture so I’ve got to have another scan soon.

I’ve got excess hair on face and body and thinning hair on my head. My periods have always been regular but the past six months they’re very early each month and this month I’ve had random spotting. They’re also very painful and heavy. I’m very overweight but trying now to lose it.

The Drs don’t seem to care unless I mention trying for a baby and then they’ll be able to help. What about my general life and mental health though?

They did say I could have the coil or pill but even though I’m not trying for a baby I also didn’t want to stop it happening (pretty relaxed about that) so those aren’t suitable solitons for me. But apparently it’s all they can do.

For now I’m just waiting for the next scan - but I’m worried they wont get a clear picture again as they said being overweight doesn’t help.

I've always known I've had PCOS but the doctors always refused to diagnose me with it because I didn't have all the classic symptoms. I once seen a gynaecologist who said I can't have PCOS because I have kids... Wtf?

Then finally I was diagnosed about 3 years back by another gynaecologist and my GP finally accepted the diagnosis.

I bled heavily once for 3 months straight, GP would give me tranexamic acid 4 days at a time which would stop the bleeding while I'd take it and then as soon as I'd stop it was awful.

I've tried everything, losing weight, changing my diet, regular exercise. Wanted to avoid allopathic medicine so I went the herbal root which has helped soooo much, but a long journey of trial and error. But finally I have a regular period.
I forgot to mention in my post that the one thing they will give me is tranexamic acid - but agree it just works for the four days then after is awful!

Thanks guys, I might speak to mine and see what they say. I'm not ttc and I also don't want my periods to start again as I've got the implant in so who knows what they'll say but it's got to be worth a try I guess

Hey, I came off my period 2 weeks ago and ever since I’ve had bloating and cramps quite bad. Not sure if anyone else with PCOS has had this, I’ve never had it before. I’m not sure whether it could be a cyst or something? Any advice would be fab:)
I’ve not had this, but I do have an ovarian cyst and it doesn’t cause me any bloating or cramp. But that’s not to say it wouldn’t do for others.

I would personally just see if the symptoms continue and go to Drs if it goes on for a few more weeks x

Thinking of getting an IPL machine, my hair growth is so fast and cba shaving anymore.

Has anyone tried it and found it works with PCOS?
