We’ve got a new one around here that only started up in about June I think. I might give it a try this week instead of my usual local one, it only about twenty minutes away so not that far and the course is flatter. I’m lucky in that the local one is very friendly so it will be interesting to see what this one is like.

I know it's unpopular (especially on that group!) but I do feel quite strongly that if you can't walk a 5k in around an hour, then the distance is too far for you. I appreciate that people enjoy the community feel and the achievement/opportunity of getting a bit quicker each week and it's motivating for them but equally for me that is an activity that they should do on their own time.
I've done some parkruns in over an hour because of the terrain. There was ice at Heaton parkrun when I first visited. I was fit enough to run it but didn't want to risk it.

Slowest was 1hr 12. Far too muddy and slippery to even consider running it.

There are also some parkruns that are challenging. My local is one of the hardest in the UK. Not unusual to see people come in over an hour.

Hardly inclusive if you have a cut off time.

I considered doing parkrun (it was in the same location) before doing my ultra. But my race didn't start until 11 and I was too lazy to get out of bed at the time and couldn't be bothered waiting around for my race to start.
Thos appears to be mid race so they’re asking if it’s ok to divert off course, do parkrun and then return back to the point they made and do the final 20 odd (or whatever) miles.

Honestly it's posts like this that put me off going back to Parkrun. I did a few before COVID when I was thinner and fitter, and my absolute best time was about 34 mins. I was one of the last 2-3 to finish every time, as ours is quite a small Parkrun and was full of blokes who finish in 17-18 mins.

Now I'm 3st heavier and i doubt I could do it in less than 50 mins. I don't want to be bringing up the rear thinking people will be wondering why I'm even bothering or that I'm holding all the tailwalkers up from going home 🙄😞
I once tail walked. We had a pair of women walk / run who apologised for being slow. I knew as there was a local race the next day there was going to be a slower runner.

I've walked a few including one where it was so muddy that running was impossible. I almost lost my shoe!

Should people run all the way or is run/walk ok? Is parkrun meant to be encouraging people to improve their fitness or is it for the already fit?

It was more about the fact that in Sydney we have a challenge named after someone because they were the first person to complete all Sydney based parkruns.
There was no mention or thought of trans row in my my mind.
however there is someone in NSW that has started a petition to have the records etc reinstated. Not many realise the actual reason why and where it’s come from
I've actually gone back and looked at it again and I think the shirts are just coincidence like you say!

It does seem to be very much down to the local events to find volunteers.

HQ must have such an extensive database of runners, they could easily do targeted emails about the benefits of volunteering at parkruns etc to those who have done say 10 parkruns but not volunteered. Or link into something like volunteers week to put the spotlight on volunteers etc. that make it happen, not just event volunteers but the ambassadors etc.
They used to feature volunteers on their FB/Twitter feeds, as I've appeared a couple of times.

I’d be careful posting specifics of locations/finish times/positions as people could easily find first and last name from that info 😬😬
That info is available to anyone. You just search an individual parkrun and look at latest results.

Yes it's Eastville which is so busy as most central in Bristol.
Some very fast runners there.
500 to 600 most weeks with few tourists
That lake goes on forever but my favourite lap.

I also do pomphrey Hill which is not as busy and more fun run atmosphere.

Never done Ashton court/ chipping Sodbury or Keynsham.
Keynsham (Somerdale Pavilion) is just...bonkers! But it's great doing something more exciting than laps around a field. At this time of year it does get flooded a lot.

Someone posted a video on YouTube to the Benny Hill theme tune.

And they are such bores as well, I don’t know if anyone else knows who I mean but I think the lady who posts for brunch recommendations on that group is actually funny, and she got told to tone her language down because the admin got complaints? I bet they are fun at parties
Yep, God forbid anyone has a sense of humor.

There's a few people who keep plastering photos of their kids all over that group too. Creepy.

On the subject of unhinged parkrun tourism, last summer (I’m sure I screenshotted it but now can’t find it) I saw a post of a woman who hadnt realised the parkrun in Cyprus was on a closed military base, had booked to stay as near to it and found out two weeks before she couldn’t do it and was genuinely considering cancelling her and her families (no one else was a parkrunner) holiday and trying to get a last minute deal somewhere with one…
Batshit.

I like parkrun and like touring and doing lots of different parkruns. I hate “tourists” the same day return flights to Poland, ignoring requests to not go to a parkrun because of one of the dumb ass number sequences. Environmentally horrible and so selfish.

I used to RD and stopped for a number of reasons but people being absolute twats was high up there, I had two worst offender groups.
1) as someone said before, middle aged middle of the pack men. Always rude, never volunteered.

2) also always rude and never volunteer, a particular brand of tourists: slightly larger women in tikiboo skorts, always with camel packs, who take about 45 minutes, always running in a group on a three lapped course which gets narrow and being bloody dickheads about being asked to keep right. We didn’t have toilets at our parkrun, there were some in the park that the council didn’t open till later in the morning made VERY CLEAR in the course description and I had one woman of the above description literally have a tantrum because I couldn’t open it for her.
They were always also the ones who emailed into complain that the barcode scanner wasn’t super cheery, or the marshal was too cheery and it was patronising (both genuine complaints).

argh
(Not aimed at you)

I've noticed a lot of people complaining about those of us who will organise a group to go a parkrun but no one seems to have an issue with the two (that I know of) who have constantly been touring for the last 10 odd years plus. I remember a parkrun saying one of those men are visiting and they'd (the parkrun) be disappointed to cancel due to lack of volunteers.

Not been but saw it had nearly 1200 attendees on week 2 and volunteers / funnel struggled!

Also interested to see re other events. Already notes a cancellation on the parkrun page for 02/11 for another event so maybe will be off semi-frequently?

I feel like point 2 describes my local parkrun 🤣
