We had today at our parkrun, a girl about 12-13 her dad pushing to the max and throwing up 🤮 twice when she crossed the line. We offered them some water, her dad was like she is fine. Tell her to get up off the floor and walk. She was like a ghost, and not steady on her feet at all. Then the dad was saying to her stop been dramatic and walk. 😳 we couldn’t believe it..

Oh my heart breaks for the girl 😭😭😭

We've got a new (or replacement one) starting a few miles away and we've already lost at least one of our regular volunteers to that one as it's closer to their house. Would love to know what parkrun as a whole plan to do to support this kind of situation. Hopefully the end of the holidays will mean that the roster struggles improve.

So they got rid of the New Years Day events because they thought people were driving over the limit to get to them? Am I misreading that?

We had nearly 800 runners at my local this morning and the last over the line was 55 mins… what were they doing to take that long?!
I've taken over an hour before. But I remember at least courses being vile and difficult to walk on. And I slipped on the way around

Some weirdo on the tourist page is on holiday in France planning on a 300 mile journey to Germany to do a parkrun on Saturday, christ, can they not enjoy the holiday
I’m away next week with friends. We’ll be camping about a mile from a parkrun so some of us will wander along on Saturday morning and then meet the others for a big breakfast. Not the reason we chose to stay there though.

I considered doing parkrun (it was in the same location) before doing my ultra. But my race didn't start until 11 and I was too lazy to get out of bed at the time and couldn't be bothered waiting around for my race to start.

On a slightly different note... Have heard through the grapevine and then see on results that a highly anticipated new parkrun is now live. Anyone been? Curious as to how it will affect in particular the many other paid events that take place weekly in said location

Eek.

My local really struggled to get a tailwalker for a few months because we had an individual like that. They'd take over 1hr 15 and stop multiple times along the way as they were out of breath, sometimes not completing the course. I've also heard of tailwalkers who've had the person they were accompanying stop and chat with a friend they saw coming through the park as well, or turn up with a coffee in hand and just amble around (why wouldn't you just go on your own!?)
Can I assume that like time keepers and bar code scanners with no tail Walker the event can’t go ahead?

For me with the groups, it's mainly thinking of the impact the inflated numbers have on the event team. I saw that Bicester parkrun ran out of finish tokens this week because there were a vegan runners group visit with a far higher turn out than anyone was expecting.

On the two individuals, would I find them on the top of the most events list? Depressing that whoever it is is treated like royalty.
They both have the initials PF.

With Inis Meain the team knew we were coming.

Is anyone else (im) patiently waiting to see if their parkrun cancels tomorrow? It's my NENDY and all the ones nearby have cancelled.
I'm due to volunteer at a local but not my home parkrun and if they don't decide early enough I might get there to bad news... Guess it would get my food shop done earlier if they do cancel as I wouldn't have time to get to an alternative parkrun.

My whinge about parkrun is that the ones in my town start at 7am. I’m a jogger/walker pushing a pram with two little kids in it, and that’s really early to be organised and out the house.

It’s an unpopular opinion but I agree. I do think events (at their discretion) should be able to have a cap, of which can be no less than an hour, which I swear used to be a thing when I first started being an RD (about 200 years ago?(
You have events on private land (National Trust sites and Trentham among others) which basically require you to wrapped up by 10am. So it is possible…
