On a slightly different note... Have heard through the grapevine and then see on results that a highly anticipated new parkrun is now live. Anyone been? Curious as to how it will affect in particular the many other paid events that take place weekly in said location

Not been but saw it had nearly 1200 attendees on week 2 and volunteers / funnel struggled!

Also interested to see re other events. Already notes a cancellation on the parkrun page for 02/11 for another event so maybe will be off semi-frequently?

someone gave some scathing feedback to the volunteers on one of the groups and rightly so got their arses handed for them to turning up to the second event.

I think it’s likely to get big numbers as the other one nearby is partially on grass and gets very slippy/mucky/wet in sections.

Where is it? I’m assuming London given the numbers? I don’t pay any attention to new events these days so haven’t got a clue.

Had to do a bit of detective work to work it out - Battersea Park.

Is there a reason it was so highly anticipated/big? Just a fancy London location? (Country mouse here!)

It’s very central, wide and flat paths, very densely populated ‘nice’ area with ok-ish public transport links. Very few of the ‘central’ London parks have a parkrun for various reasons.

I’d argue it’s one of the few places in the country that doesn’t need a parkrun tbh 😅 the last time I bothered going for a run there was in lockdown and I imagine it’s 30000x more busy there with runners on a Saturday morning even without parkrun!

If you haven’t already guessed I will not be going out of my way to attend 😅

We made the effort to venture to one of our locals but not that local the other weekend, all around an inner city park with wide paths and really lovely volunteers, great for buggies. Unfortunately the city isn't very nice itself and you have to run past several homeless people camping in their tents which is a bit awkward.

I visited a friend over the weekend and did her local. I now remember why I've only done it once before! Friendly but 4 laps.
