I can't believe we just watched that. What a race.

Edited to add: Pidcock being booed by the French crowd.

Well done Tom Pidcock! I thought he’d lost it to the Frenchman. Who knew I liked mountain bike racing 😅

The Seine is still not good enough to allow triathlete to train today. They can postponed until Friday, if by Friday the quality is still too bad they will just cut the swimming part off and just do cycling and running 😬
This is actually so embarassing for France because it was 100% sure that the Seine would not be ready for that.
Not sure who was 100% sure. Anyone with a passing interest in French politics knew this was never going to happen while people are dumping their sewage straight into the Seine in protest.

my commentators (I am not in the UK) say it was usual collision, no faul play from him

I honestly don't know how they keep concentration for the whole race, it seems you cannot not focus for even one second on that track, no time to even breath deeply

Yeah our commentators said Tom had right of way as he came out of the split track ahead. It's cycling, there's always a bit of bumping and jostling for place in nearly all races.

My feed on Discovery+ keeps buffering and it's very annoying.

From other news - maybe it is because last summer Olympics were so not typical with restricted audience in pandemics and I do not remember seeing celebs (or I blocked it from memory), but I feel like it's been just 3 days and I already saw too many celebrities out there. Looks like a celebrity convention there (I mean, what a better city to do that, I partly don't blame them) but I am slightly annoyed when they get attention - I don't mind athletes or former medalists but when I saw Tom Cruise watching Simone Biles that was definitely TOO MUCH for me. I don't need to see anyone else but athletes or their happy families. Snoop Dog gets a pass from me because at least him and Olympics is a combo absurd enough that it can be funny

That overtake was 😘
All previous laps I think they all took the left exit so for Pidcock to switch to the right was savvy. Great race.
We are getting equestrian medals too but what colours...?
ETA..just a single Bronze, so very close with 4th also being a Brit.

these canoes are a great warm up before weightlifting starts and I will once again realise I need some weightlifting for arm strength that I lack - not only would I feel claustrophobic stuck in the canoe, I would also flip upside down right after start and even if I did not, I would absolutely have no power and not be able to turn my canoe around in that water stream

The poor triathletes, training for 3 years only to find it’s more than likely you will only be cycling and running. That’s incredibly unfair to the athletes that are the strongest in the swim. Very poor planning, how can it be a triathlon with only 2 events?

Tom did amazing in the mountain biking he would have won by a mile if it wasn’t for his puncture!!

Really horrible to hear the French booing him and him mentioning it in his interview 😢

OK I’m calling it: I think Tom Pidcock’s gold is already the most exciting and hard fought medal we’ll see this entire games. Incredible performance.

It will be a farce. It’s not a triathlon.

Being sporting is quite central to the British sense of identity isn’t it? I was sat near China supporters at a few events at London and Rio and they only cheer their person. Nothing for anyone else - no clapping for effort or etiquette. Interesting, and off putting, insight in all honesty.

wait, I missed it - so if the river is not clear enough they will simply resign from the swimming part of triathlon??? There is no alternative place as plan B???

If that is what is planned that is absolutely appalling, particularly as Stevie Wonder could see that this was going to happen.
