I dunno - I do think it’s nice to give your children a wide range of experiences if you have the means to do so. That said, wherever they go they buy Disney merch and eat plain pasta so how much of an experience is it?

The being recognised thing is almost a parody at this point. I do think being recognised or approached when you’re just trying to get on with your day must be frustrating at points - no matter how privileged you are or grateful you are. That said, of all the podcasts I listen to, I’ve never heard anyone mention it apart from Rob. I can see how he might have a more laddy or out there audience compared to Josh - but Josh is on The Last Leg (a long running prime time show) and Romesh is on 1)everything and 2) LOTO which I’d argue attracts a similar audience to Rob and he doesn’t mention it. He might hate it for all we know, but he just swallows it down and gets on with it. I also doubt that the PH audience are the people “hassling” Rob, so I don’t get what he’s trying to achieve.

It makes him sound arrogant even though I don’t think he is at heart - and it’s possibly an over correction or response to feeling insecure for a long time. God knows, but it’s tedious to listen to. I wonder what Josh thinks every time he mentions it?

I also think Rob is the type to discover everything on here one day and throw a fit and say he’s not doing to podcast anymore

Romesh has discussed being recognised on his podcast, and what he said couldn’t be further away from what Rob says!

I didn’t realise Rob was soooooo famous that he can’t go anywhere without being recognised and having so many fans coming up to him for photos.

It must be a living hell for him 🙄

He should talk about it more, maybe his fans will back off a bit if they understand how much it traumatises him 🤷🏽‍♀️

Just pull a cap down low and get on with it.

I've a friend who is best mates with someone V famous and they go out quite a lot for lunches and coffee dates in London and he barely gets recognised or interrupted despite being arguably a lot more well know than Rob or Josh. To be fair he isn't a comedian so perhaps people expect it more of comedians?

Being recognised is exactly what allows him and his family to live such a privileged life. I completely appreciate there are situations where it’s inappropriate to approach someone but if I were relaxing in my detached home on several acres with the mortgage likely long paid off, I’d consider occasional interruptions when I'm out in public one of the few downsides of my job.

If being recognised is such an issue he could always stick to being a touring comedian rather than taking primetime TV gigs that make him more of a household name.

I'm starting to wonder if half of it is made up. The Euro 21 (or whenever it was) chicken by a bin lad lad lad fame gave him a real boost which alot of his adoring fans came to know him from - otherwise he's no more (in fact i'd say less) than your other comedians - John Bishop, Kevin Bridges, Bob Mortimer etc.

Rob was so awful this week as to be bordering on unhinged! It was like someone taking the piss out of how he treats Josh. The going on about the cornflakes reminded me of being at a house party and someone who’s had too much starts going on and on and sours the vibe, and everyone leaves before a fight breaks out.

I absolutely agree with this, it was so uncomfortable. He has no awareness at all, he interrupts Josh all the time and without fail turns the conversation to himself. How many times Josh tried to tell the story of being locked in the school and yet each time he was interrupted he has the social skills to engage with whatever rubbish Rob was spouting. It comes across as jealousy from Rob, he can't say anything complimentary to Josh, always making digs about anything he does. Driving me mad at the moment!

Also I think the mention of the horse riding lesson triggered Rob, I think he's forgotten Josh's parents bred horses so he's grown up with them.
The way he mentioned he couldn't keep one in the garden, ie you don't have a paddock like me! Josh doesn't rise to it, I'm sure he and Rose must laugh and their friends must surely see it like we do.

Rob is also quite keen to criticise Rose. For instance if Josh happens to mention he is busy, Rob will follow that up with - where’s Rose, what’s Rose doing? and he quite often follows that up with.…How are the driving lessons going? Can you imagine if Josh Questioned the actions of Lou? Of course, he never would.

Yeah to be fair I didnt really think Rob was any worse than usual but it was driving me mad that he couldn't get his school story out and it took 35 mins to get to the end of that story. I think it's one of those things that as soon as you notice him doing it, you can't unhear it and it gets right under your skin!

I've been listening from the start over the last year or so and recently found this thread so its interesting to see the comments of the pod now but I can fully see it happening even in the earlier days. I'm at early 2023 now and the mentions of moving away from London have started and Rob cuts Josh off all the time whilst also being generally quite dismissive/mean but Josh never retaliates and just tries to move past the comments. Rob does however at this point at least seem to recognise it and apologise. Weirdly on the one Iistened to today he actually said that if hes not worked for a few days/weeks he loses his outlet and finds that he takes the piss out of people more and I thought of this thread.
They've just had the first one on where Lou does her right to reply and wow I wasnt sure about her prior to this and always try to keep an open mind but she is really domineering and quite aggressive. Also not even remotely funny, thinks shes a lot funnier than she is

Long time lurker to this thread. But wow this episode really put me off Rob. I always gave him the benefit of the doubt of the butting in taking over being abit adhd etc but he was obnoxious this week towards Josh. And the way he goes on about being recognised, sorry but isn't the public the reason you can pay for private school. Doing a few selfies here and there isn't that bad. Lou wouldn't even have her book out if she wasn't robs wife. I could totally be friends with Josh and rose though.

I feel like he’s actually a nice guy, but defensive much?? You can be both secure in your own choices, whilst supportive of others and their different choices- he just doesn’t know how. Lou seems the same. Jumps on the defensive quickly. I can’t say I’ll be reading the book- is it just going to be her moaning about Rob not filling lunch boxes, or paying for school trips? 😂

I think Rob does loads to be honest… a lot more than my husband did when ours were young. I’m not a multimillionaire , i work, I don’t get multiple foreign holidays a year.
i mean this genuinely I don’t understand what Lou is moaning about? She has to look after her own children because her husband is super successful at his job? Is that literally it? Tons of women in the same boat except replace Comedian with Army, fireman, plumber, lorry driver.

He's happy to be recognised when moaning about service or an airline, but not for a photo with fans - can't have it both ways!

The term ‘default parent’ to my mind, means the (usually) mum takes on the admin from school, books the classes, makes sure all the stuff is taken to school, is the one the kids usually want when ill etc. It’s not a full blown attack on (usually) dads. It just acknowledges that the other parent hasn’t got all the mental load. My husband’s great, does a lot of housework, does most of the school runs, but I’m the one who books the after school club, remembers the World Book Day, and would be first choice for my little one. To be brutally honest, most of the mums I know are default parents, but we also recognise we’re massive control freaks who would involve ourselves even if dad was doing it well!

You are absolutely correct!! I get annoyed when my husband doesn’t remember it all, but I wouldn’t change how it is now.

I think it’s fair enough being the default parent if you don’t work or have a very part time job and the other parent has a job where they are away a lot. I don’t see how that could be any different? I hope Lou checks her privilege in the book.
