I went off the Greens when I saw one of their members drinking coffee from a disposable cup! I'm obsessed by not using throwaway things and I'm not a member of any party!

But surely it's not a choice between the greens and the far right, their choice could be Labour or lib dem. Either way he shouldn't be canvassing as he polarises things too much. Someone else could have gone into that interview and said "maybe they forgot ..." or something. Instead he basically belittles the woman and treats her like an idiot. I was being facetious. Doing Nazi salutes is clearly a lot worse than not shutting a door behind you. Something to really rail against, even!
If I was working on minimum wage in a cafe and a group of people couldn't be arsed to close the door behind them - in the middle of winter - I wouldn't feel at all fondly towards them, particularly if they were Greens who are meant to be caring for the environment. They were just assuming that the workers in the cafe would do that, because they couldn't be bothered. And then Little Owen mocks them all over the internet!
You'd think by now those on the left would have learned their lesson but nope, they just can't help themselves. Ridiculing those they deem stupid/bigoted/ignorant is just hard wired into them.
Absolutely. I'm completely alienated from the "left" (such as it is, I don't think many of them are left wing at all) for this reason. And the total absence of critical thinking skills exhibited by a lot of them.
It's a tell of what they think of the constituency. If not one of them could be arsed to pull the cafe door closed behind them on a cold day, it just seems disrespectful., makes them look like carpet baggers.
Social media brings out the worst in people, always chasing that algorithm and trying to get that engagement. Must be a terrible way to spend your time.

I once went to a green party meeting and they had disposable cups, I did question it and was told they were paper that would be recycled. Load of crap - paper doesn't hold water*. It's lined with plastic and is very difficult to recycle. Even if it could be recycled that doesn't make it zero cost.
*yes some paper cups are plastic free, wax lined or those cones that hold cold water for a couple of minutes before falling to bits. But almost all do have plastic.

I just see the Green Party as the same as Reform, just at the opposite extreme. They are both fixated on a couple of issues they keep banging on about with no real idea how to more widely govern, and neither party listens to/considers the other side of the argument and that they might be too simplistic in their approach. Both come across as arrogant and helping to further divide the country.
Unfortunately polls show that in the particular constituency we're talking about, it's a choice between the two of them.
I would vote Green over Reform any day of the week.
But voting for a government, duck is anyone even competent at the moment quite honestly.
The political system has been so broken and corrupt for such a long time that I think there's (generally speaking) something wrong with people who want to get into it, other than on a local level.
Im not even sure about local level as honestly I dont notice a difference locally whoever is in.
It's always tricky. My local authority are quite good in my opinion, not perfect, but compared to some other areas, they seem to be doing a good job maintaining services, investing in services, etc. they don't close the council office, they don't close the library, they don't close the leisure centre, in a town/village they merge them all on to one site and focus their investment on making one good multi-purpose centre. And in spite of them being conservatives, they don't privatise/outsource it to private companies like the national conservatives probably would. So I would never say I'm a Tory, but I can accept them locally because they seem to do a decent job in spite of ever increasing pressures on the budget, which are going to be made even worse with the new settlement they are getting from central government.
I think local authorities are all struggling so much with cuts they've been facing since 2010, and the ever growing social care and SEN costs that there isn't much left for anything else anyway beyond maintaining basic services so they can't be that different.
I mean that wanting to get into local politics doesn't necessarily make someone questionable, but the higher up they get, the more the system corrupts (or at least makes vigorous attempts to corrupt). Big business and other nefarious influences tend to focus on the higher-ups.
Super councils just never work.
I'm still struggling to understand the benefits of some of these combined mayoral authorities that are being set up. Some make sense like Manchester have made a success of it. With enough local regions coming together to achieve something quite significant.
I'm not in a mayoralty of two authorities which feels rather pointless to me.
Ah, you can bet your bottom dollar if that had been a trans woman he'd been interviewing, he would have nodded sagely, agreed that manners are all that matters, given him her a hug, waffled lot of pointless platitudes about 'acceptance' and kindness' ad nauseam and posted it all over his socials. I mean the Greens are basically bleeping dangerous (just google Aimee Challenor if you are unsure why)but no wonder OJ supports them and because ickle Owen was faced with a real woman he had to be a bleep, because essentially, he's a misogynistic piece of tit.
Was discussing this with my husband last night. My reaction was that I could understand why she felt that way as it was definitely a sign of disrespect for the other diners…
