I'm always suprised at the amount of people who chose an insecure gig then proceed to put all their eggs in one basket then bemoan when something affects it.

Just like the youtube "adpocalypse" people are complaining and equating it to a permie job and saying it's the same as an employer cutting your pay overnight. If you want a regular guaranted income you need to get a job with a contract.

It's all this wanting their cake and eating it too I can't get onboard with. I say this as a freelancer myself.

I wonder if only fans type stuff has had its peak? Apparently most of the money is made by a few famous / infamous people at the top and the rest don't make much. Maybe with so much competition now those at the top now won't be able to get those to transfer to a new platform?

Well said. If we're honest, they like it because most of them are earning more than they'd get via a job with a contract. But that also means they could have saved most of their income and hence have enough money to fund them while they look for alternative work.

I see lots of influencers who seem to earn a lot, but also spend a lot. I'd be saving everything I could. But I suppose they feel they have to have all the flashy material possessions to fit in.

They can earn crazy money. There is an initial subscription fee which gives you access to the persons profile and basic content, then there are photo/video options, tantalising captions etc. but to then open that photo/video, you have to pay more. It goes on and on like this, unlocking the layers so to speak, so to get to the most x rated content, you can end up spending an absolute fortune. Not sure exact amounts, and I guess it depends on the persons popularity what they charge. Most celebs/influencers aren't going to do porn/sex acts without a hefty price tag. I don't know if this the case for all accounts on there.

It is a difficult issue. I very much agree the access to porn children have is very damaging and already negatively impacting society as a whole with warped views of sexual relationships and universal access to camera phones thrown in the mix. There is resistance to restricting access to that content online in a way that protects both children and user identity though. If someone has an unsual fetish it is not hard to see why they don't want their data compromised by such a system that could lead to blackmail/humiliation.

The main issue is that as a more connected society we have reached a crossover between the acceptance of sex work as work, and the changing of attitudes towards sex, but the prism of how the internet and porn presents sex is the issue. I think most adults who have matured (and have been lucky enough to experience it) acknowledge that sex is at it's best when it is with someone you have a deeper connection with, are in love with etc. Not that enjoyable sex can't be had without that, but porn pushes a specific vision, 99% of the time via the male gaze, that would actually be quite hollow as a particpant but is more visually appealing. For undeveloped minds this is confusing.

At a baseline of human behaviour though I don't think the behaviour of people regarding sex will mature across society. For example I know someone is having a relationship at their work under the radar and the amount of gossip and rumour flying now people have joined the dots is unreal, and that's just consensual sex between 2 adults in private. Doing porn is like doing reality tv, it's like being famous but you aren't rich.

There’s other sites like Just For Fans which will no doubt take their place when OF dies its inevitable death. This reminds me of the great porn ban on tumblr in 2019… they lost a good chunk of their userbase trying to keep tumblr family friendly and keep driving other potential users away through their (poor) adult material detector which flags even the most innocuous of posts as explicit.
