He was advised against an appeal as he probably won't get it but he is doing it anyway to screw with her because in his mind, she 'beat' him so wants the appeal to be the one in control again. So the trial ended today. I'm posting this from the Guardian which sums up the closing submissions from both parties. The Guardian's case is overwhelming and their barrister states that Clarke's defence of this all being a conspiracy by all so many unconnected parties is completely implausible and lacking in merit. His lawyer sticks to the conspiracy line and also suggests that poor Clarke is unfairly copping the blame for the #MeToo movement and makes a comparison with shows like Benny Hill and Little Britain with content that is 'of its time' but would no longer be deemed appropriate. And of course, there's the obligatory cry of racial bias.
I genuinely can't wait for the judgment because I expect it to complete destroy him and he deserves nothing less: not just for his actions, but also for the unbelievable arrogance and contempt he has shown by proceeding with this case.

Clarke had earlier complained about how hard it was to find lawyers willing to take the case, so it does seem to be him keeping on going down the list until he found ones who told him what he wanted to hear.
Like everyone, I'm delighted that he's met his comeuppance. Obviously we haven't seen the whole judgment, but I think the judge was quite kind to him in the comments reported so far. She made it clear that he was lying clutching at straws with his conspiracy claims but she also said that she thought he genuinely believed that he hadn't done anything wrong: or rather he still sees his behaviour in a different light and doesn't recognise that the impact of what he did. This was a telling passage from Justice Steyn:
'....Although I find that he has been untruthful about most of the allegations, in his efforts to salvage his career, his initial response that ‘some of my actions have affected people in ways I did not intend or realise’ was true.
“Even when his actions have been calculated and deliberate, Mr Clarke has tended to be oblivious to their impact, regarding his own behaviour as merely being ‘naughty’, ‘cheeky’, ‘teasing’ or within his rights as a director or producer. In addition, he does not see himself as reflected in the articles because there is a kinder, more generous side to him. But that does not detract from the conclusions I have reached.”'
It's also disappointing, but not surprising, that his wife is also under the spell. She clearly believes him even though as a woman, I can't imagine supporting my husband/partner who had behaved in such a way over years and with so many different women. It's sad that we women can have such low standards for ourselves and our children.

100%. It's disturbing that Clarke is either telling his little boy all about the court case and the allegations, or he's telling him "all these nasty women are making up lies about daddy." Poor kid's going to need a lot of therapy.

If she had any self respect she would divorce him. He admitted in court to wining and dining other women and taking them to hotels, what more proof does she want that he’s unfaithful? Besides the fact he’s everything he’s accused of being.

Years later hearing this now makes me wonder did it affect the way how his character was written in Doctor Who in later seasons.
