Honestly am not sure, was planning on bringing the games over, but am not sure on if I'll bring their save data over or not, one one hand it might be cool to start fresh with games but then my AC has so much in its catalogue am like ehhhhh lol

Am planning on letting my niece have my old switch when she comes over as she's just starting to enter the gaming world now, so I'll maybe "loan" out the games to her
Not sure if you're aware, but Animal Crossing has its own transfer tool to move data from one Switch to another. You can't do it any other way, so be careful wiping any AC data from your Switch without using it first.

The tool worked well for me when I upgraded my original Switch to an OLED Switch a year ago. Pretty sure the same tool can be used to move AC save data from a Switch to a Switch 2. I used it because my island took so long and I catalogued pretty much every single item in the game (including all the colour variants) so I couldn't face starting over.

Always nice to pass a console onto a new gamer haha! I think I'm either gonna put my Switch next to my Switch 2 (both docked by my TV), or I'll use my Switch as a purely handheld console, while keeping my Switch 2 mainly docked. If it was just a standard Switch I wouldn't care, but it's the TotK Zelda edition, so I still want to use it rather than letting it gather dust while I move all data to my Switch 2. Decisions, decisions!

Just got back from work and my switch arrived 20mins before me, I’m going to set it transferring and then heading to Argos to grab the copy of MCW that I reserved 🤗

Do you think it will be hard to buy a Switch 2 at Christmas? Or will there be lots of stock by then.
Apparently Argos has some stock today, not sure which stores but I feel like Nintendo is releasing in phases which seems a good idea as it means stock is always being replenished, so I'd say maybe try late October/November time if you want one for Xmas, I'd think Xmas might result in a few parents hurrying out to get them for their kids Xmas so they might sell out

Amazon has just emailed saying mine has been despatched so might be here tomorrow :)

one of the kids was ill this morning and has to be off school the rest of the week, which works in my favour because my husband will be home to accept the delivery, makes cleaning up vomit worth it 🤣

I like this, it feels like the 00s and 90s. I'd go at mightnight if my local store was doing it.

Well, after waiting all day yesterday and two calls to customer service this morning, my delivery will be out later today apparently. Although that’s what they said yesterday and I’ve no time window yet so who knows.

And all this on my birthday 😩
Happy birthday! Good luck with the delivery.

i was lucky enough to get a Switch at Argos yesterday.

Can you buy the new Mario Kart and play on the now old Switch?
No. The switch 2 is backward compatible with many games for the original switch, but new games for the 2 won't work for the original.

It will be a bit confusing as I'm sure some new games will come out that work on both but that's because they're really switch 1 games. It's bit like it was with the game boy and game boy color.

The wii u was a huge flop as lots of people didn't really understand it was a whole new system and only really shared the name, but wii u games don't work on wii.

Most professional places delayed putting up a review until they had the chance to put it through it's places. The guardian rushed out their review based on testing the system months ago before games and patches were finalised

He complains that it's not radically new, what did he expect? It's 8ish times more powerful. You just have to look at cyberpunk to see what a huge upgrade it is.

The Switch 2 is estimated to have 3.1 TFLOPs when docked and 1.7 TFLOPs when handheld, compared to the original Switch's 0.4 TFLOPs docked and under 0.2 TFLOPs in handheld mode. This represents a substantial increase in graphical processing power.
Oh I know, stuff like that's annoying. You can tell from looking at the console that it's not radically new. It's a Switch 2 - clue is in the name. It's meant to be an upgraded version - ie enhancing aspects of the original - instead of releasing a totally new console.

I swear some gaming journalists almost want to hate it. They'll compare it to the current gen consoles as if the Switch 2 is trying to compete with the PS5/high end PCs, when they obviously know it's not.

But that said, I've been really impressed with Mario Kart World, which is the only made-for Switch 2 game I've played so far. The graphics look so much better than the Switch, which you'd expect. When I initially saw it at the Nintendo Direct I thought it looked like a slightly upgraded version of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but that was from a livestream which is obviously gonna be lower quality than playing it in 1080p on a full HD screen. The difference is much bigger.

Probably my only slight criticism of MKW is that is feels obvious this is version 1. We all know there will be lots more characters, outfits and courses, given how it was with MK8 Deluxe, but the base game of MK8 still felt complete. However, with MKW there's an uneven amount of character costumes - some have way more than others. I very much doubt Nintendo hasn't already designed loads more outfits, but they're obviously keeping them back for the inevitable update that they'll produce a snazzy trailer for. But that's not Nintendo specific, it's common practice nowadays.

I want a new Animal Crossing so bad 😭 My favourite game to play throughout the autumn is Cozy Grove because, well, it's just so cosy 😆

I'm very much a physical game person (old school) so - if I'd had complete choice - I'd have picked the non Mario Kart World bundle and then bought a physical edition of the game. But as it turned out I was allocated the bundle, so went with it as it's better than nothing, and I hoped the physical game would come in the box.

But now I know you only get a download code for Mario Kart World in the bundle I'm almost considering waiting an extra day to get a physical copy of MKW and then just sell the digital version on eBay. But not sure I can wait an extra day now. 😂

Does anyone else find their internet download speeds are slower on their Switch/Switch 2 than any other devices?

Yesterday it didn’t seem too bad so I thought the Switch 2 was better, but today it’s back to being slow. When I do a speed test on the Switch 2 it says 15mbps down, but my phone says 200mbps so I know my internet is fine.

It could just be that Nintendo’s servers are being hammered right now I guess.
Yes, I think it's just high usage of the servers (worldwide release - day 1 etc). I just left it to download games overnight (and one to install from game card) and it's done for this morning.
It took me ages to transfer my village from animal crossing over. I was trying all sorts of methods to swap save data, turns out you have to download a free app from the nintendo store to do it. 🤯

Nintendo need to bring out a new Animal Crossing. That was such a big driver but I've not played it in two years now as there's nothing else to do. Also games like Dreamlight Valley are so bad on the Switch. So while my Switch is on its last legs I couldn't bring myself to order the new one as it's so expensive - need to wait and see if it's improved for the games I like to play. Mario Kart is not a big enough draw for me.

Hoping for more news on the new Pokemon game. If something that hooks me is revealed I might finally put an order in for a switch 2.

I'd love some Fire emblem too. A few months back I did a playthrough of Path of Radiance again and loved it.

And you’re enjoying it?! Not too samey with AC? I’m debating buying it!
I haven't played Animal Crossing (yet! Just recently got the Switch) so I can't really compare BUT I'm really enjoying it. It's a great mix of life sim and adventure/quests. I find the gardening, decorating, fishing, and cooking really therapeutic.

I didn't realize this before buying it but it's coming out free next year so there'll be lots of updates to come I'm sure. I would bet the realms/different Disney worlds will be expanded a lot.
