But the whole point of politics is to vote for what you think will benefit you.
I'm in my 50s, work for a voluntary organisation and care for my elderly mum.
I'm going to vote for parties who promise increased pensions and prioritise health and social care.
If you own a business that provides health services, you don't want the government putting money into the NHS cos you want the business.
I'll never vote Tory because they don't offer what I want. But I live in Scotland so I end up with a Tory government. Hence why I voted for Scottish independence.
Now, it might be that in an independent Scotland, we still end up with a Tory parliament (highly unlikey - Scotland hasnt voted a tory major for over 60yrs). But that's different to having another country making decisions for you.
Unfortunately though, many people vote for the SNP simply to push for independence, and sadly as has been proved over the last few years, the SNP seem to be incapable of providing any effective services. The ferry fiasco is one, considering that the west coast has been served by an effective ferry service for over 160 years, now replacing two boats seems to be beyond their capabilities and after late and over budget, still these ferries are not in service.
I too am in my mid 50's and yes, healthcare is an important one for me, but so are many other things,, for example housing, transport, education and a generally good standard of living for everyone, I hate inequality and as I've said, I know that there is inequality in the UK and some benefit way more than others..though I have to have a gripe here about the leftie lovies, such as Emma Thomson, who is worth £40 million, and was preaching the other day that due to the 5 mins Liz Truss was PM, several of her friends had to sell their houses, due to the pressure her mini budget put on their mortgage payments, I have to assume that is either A) a blatant lie or B) her friends were so stretched with their mortgage payments, that even the thought of a minor increase had them panicking (lets face it, those issues were quickly resolved and the market didn't go haywire as expected). The point I am making there is that Labour generally do no better, how many times have they almost bankrupt the country? Similarly it would seem the SNP are also incapable of setting and keeping to budgets and the Tories are just disliked because they are Tories and tend to make decisions based on profit rather than people. To be fair the whole thing is a mess and I think the truth is that you cannot please all of the people all of the time, but if we all do our best to look out for each other, whether we benefit personally or not, then surely that is a better way.
As for another country making decisions for you, that is exactly what happens in the EU, and considering Scotland has had its own devolved parliament since 1997, many of the day to day decisions are made in Scotland, in fact the only Bill that has been blocked by Westminster was that ridiculous Gender Recognition shite, and I am really glad they did, the whole thing was preposterous and as I said previously, seemed to me like a manipulative tactic to force indyref2...didn't work though because the majority of Scottish people were indeed against the full Bill without any amendments, and I fully believe that is what led to Sturgeon's resignation yesterday. Her plan failed.
And telling people you'll drive them to the border when Scotland gets independence is exactly the immature, nasty attitude that others have complained about, it is not helpful and I'm sure if people want to leave Scotland they are quite capable of doing so under their own steam. I'm sorry but I was quite disappointed when I read that this morning, I have interacted with you in other threads here and believed you to be an intelligent, caring, considerate individual. That reply from you to another poster was unacceptable in my opinion.
