Well, the police appear to have thoroughly scotched the possibility that the partner is a cold-blooded psycho killer, like in the films. Mind you they could be, also like in the films, operating some kind of complex bluff strategy in order to smoke out the killer? It's very sad to hear it's the obvious; an accident. I guess we'll all just need to put our deep lust for a truth-stranger-than-fiction type murder mystery on hold for a bit until another more plausible opportunity comes along?

The possibility of a man killing his partner is not ‘like in the films’ though is it? Two women a week end up dead because of their partner. It’s no wonder people did question if he was involved

For what it’s worth I don’t think he’s involved at all, even more so after the police conference, and I just think it is a tragic accident where she ended up in the water. But if people want to stop men being suspected of killing their partners then maybe men should, you know, stop killing their partners?

He probably raised the alarm with the police asap because their dog was running around alone, her phone was left and it was out of character for his partner to do these things. Honestly if he hadn’t called the police straight away, people would say he’s sus.

In defence of the posters who wanted to point the finger at her partner (and sister at some point), I do get it. Although in this case there was absolutely nothing to indicate there was anyone else involved or that it was anything more than a tragic accident, I think human nature is to try and find the solution that makes most sense in your head. And it does seems illogical that a woman can go on a walk with her dog and in a 10 minute window just be…gone. We don’t want to think she’s simply fallen in the river and died because it’s terrifying to think that a life could be wiped out so quickly and easily, and it could happen to any of us. We don’t want to think of that. It’s much easier to try and find an explanation that’s much less likely to happen to us. So we try and point fingers or come up with elaborate theories about murders and abductions to explain what’s happened. Because we just dont want to think ‘that could be me’.

A friend of mine was wild swimming in a popular spot in August. She went under the water and didn’t come back up. They dragged the river for her and found her a few hours later. Everyone thought she’d drowned but there was no water in her lungs. It turned out that she had an undiagnosed heart condition and she’d had a massive heart attack. That taught me that life can change unexpectedly and in an instant. It sounds as if she is in the water. I hope for her families sake they are able to recover her quickly.

As someone who’s socially awkward and says all the wrong things at the best of times, the tattle townsfolk would have their pitchforks at the ready if I had to give an interview like that under so much stress.

It’s natural to speculate when things like this happen but I can’t understand “the partner definitely did it” brigade when there’s such little information available. I guess we’ll know more after the press conference. It’s just tragic all round.

The impression I got from that interview was a man struggling to cope and focusing on what he can see in front of him desperately trying to make sense of the unfathomable. No dodgy vibes at all.

So the people who think the partner did it. How do you explain how this has happened then? In that time frame? No witnesses. And he was home when he received the call (the police are able to see where his mobile phone was at that time). Where did he hide the body in that short space of time? He hid it so well that for a week they didn’t find it.. he also called the police straight away upon receiving the phone call that she was missing. It’s all well and good that people say it’s Tattle so we should all be able to speculate but what evidence do you have other than finding his behaviour odd (again saying that when most of us have no experience being under this amount of stress). Genuinely curious

Maybe the dog ran off and she lost sight of her and worried the dog was in the river, went to look for her / help her and fell in herself. Willow the dog then came back from wherever she'd been roaming, didn't see her owner go into the water so just hung around the bench. Someone posted similar above, I think this is quite a likely scenario.

All the stuff about “I just had a funny feeling it was the husband xxx Sumfink not right put him imo xxx Just speculating no harm done xxx” despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary is was absolutely terrifies me about our justice system.

I am petrified of the notion of me being accused of a crime I didn’t commit and these types of people being on the jury.

Interesting is it it? I did jury service last year and I’m not gonna lie I absolutely pre-judged the defendant. He looked like a criminal, sounded like a criminal, bleeding heck he may as well have come in with ‘Guilty’ tattooed on his forehead. Rough as rats and was defending himself. I was like can’t wait to see what fucking tosh he comes up with the little scroat.

If it restores your sense of justice, I can honestly say that the only thing the ensuing trial made me realise is to never judge a book by it’s cover, and that people in positions of authority and wearing fancy uniforms tell whopping big fucking lies.

I didn’t like the look of the guy, in my view he was probably a career criminal and was shady as fuck, but do you know what, he absolutely did not commit the crime they were trying to accuse him of and I was proud to find him innocent. I never saw that coming at the start tbh.

It was absolutely not what I have envisaged getting out of it as an experience. I had spent 40 years respecting people in authority, but by god I was disabused of that over the course of 2 weeks. A sad lesson to learn. Bastards thought they’d pin something on him and that the nice middle-class jury people would back them up. I was appalled. I felt like shouting at them at the end “I used to tell my kids to respect people like you, to trust you, that you are there to protect them. You’re an embarrassment to the principles you are meant to uphold.”

The defendant did mention that he was pursuing a separate complaint and I found myself thinking “Hang em out to dry son.” Would have bet my mortgage on not saying that only 2 weeks before!

I just looked at her Facebook because I couldn’t believe that people would really comment on her posts, but they have. People don’t seem to have boundaries or a conscience these days.

I just went to look and was shocked to see that the first post I saw had over 300 comments on, I even saw people posting links to articles about other missing people being like ‘ooh could her disappearance be linked to this ??’.
It’s fucking disgusting, it’s middle aged adults posting this shit as well, how tapped in the head do you have to be to do that sort of thing?

She was seen by several people in the few minutes it took her to walk to the bench - how are people thinking her partner got there, did something to harm her, disposed of the body so well the police haven’t found it despite 7 days of searching that started within hours of her disappearing, and then also got out of the area without being seen too…?

The logical answer does seem to be that she’s in the river - but surely if it was a fall you’d see marks in the mud / ground

Just for a moment imagine you’re not on CSI, there’s a man with two kids whose wife vanished. You think it helps that online people are speculating about him being behind it because he used words you find odd and suspicious? Calm down Karens. I hate to say this but I suspect the boyfriend did this. I don't think she ever went on that walk. Nobody has seen her have they? Both witnesses (male and female) said they didn't spot her. I don't think she ever left that house at all. The boyfriend has set this up.

I've seen enough partner interviews and studied body language long enough to know he is lying.

So the dog walked itself? Did the dog also take her phone and send her boss an email and log on to a conference call? Then the dog took its own harness off and placed her phone on the bench…. Honestly!!
