I’ve obviously done okay as only one of my kids names have been mentioned so far (Jude). 😂😂

Feel free to hate on this one; my daughters middle name is Ripley. After Ellen Ripley.

I still like it but I regret it a little bit 😂 Her first name is really pretty so I wish we’d chosen a middle name to compliment it a little better.

But Ripley is badass and I can’t wait to introduce my daughter to her when she’s older. There’s definitely worse people to be named after. 💪🏻

Haha this thread is so funny!
My daughter is called Amelie which she hates and calls herself Ellie 😭 We live in the north and she is 13 so it’s unpopular especially for her age.
I’m a midwife and we hear EVERYTHING. Trying to keep a straight face with some is a challenge. Best/worst one I’ll always remember was a woman who was having her third baby. I instantly regretted asking when she said Porsche Chanel 😬 I couldn’t understand it because her other two kids had ‘normal’ names.

I dislike specific genres rather than particular names.

Hyphenated names - Sarah-Jane, Sally-Ann and it’s even worse for boys - Harry-Jack, etc. It’s bad enough when they are cute kids but when worse when they are adults.

Males that have (imho) female names - Lindsay, Stacey, Courtney, etc.

Unisex names which sound the same - Lesley/Leslie, Vivien/Vivian, Ashley/Ashleigh, etc.

Surnames as first names - Taylor, Elliot, Mitchell, Bailey, Blake, etc.

Twins that have “related” names - e.g. Brenda & Brandon from 90210.

”Celeb” based names - Lennon, Rafferty, etc.

Anyone who deliberately uses the same first initial for all of their children. It will be a nightmare when the post comes through for a J Bloggs. Which one?!

Think there’s a few genres there!

My husband‘s name has been mentioned on this thread but not mine or my children’s (yet!), not even their middle names.
My husband, myself, his mum and my sister in law all have names beginning with S and all have the same last name. When they lived together there were three S. Bloggs in the same house, apparently post was quite tricky!

Nevaeh (heaven spelled backwards)
Anything obviously game of thrones / a popular drama of the time
Caiomhe / Caofhlionn for kids growing up in England or far away from Ireland where nobody has a clue where to start on the pronunciation - I know someone with the latter who got called cauliflower often
Tilly / Molly / Dolly / Milly
Red names like Poppy, Amber, Scarlett
Jayden / Cayden / Hayden and their variations of spellings
Naughty boys names - Reece, Harrison, Tyler, Jack, Alfie
Anything that sounds to me like a pet name - Rex, Alpha, Felix, Kit, Jet, Wolf(ie), Wilf
Hyphenated names that don’t flow - Lucy-Sarah, Amelia-Ella etc. Or anything hyphenated with May or Mae.

Many years ago I knew of a family where all of their names started with D. The kids were Debbie, Donna, Denise, Devon and Dean. Mum and dad, Dot and Dave.
What a nightmare when mail arrived for D.Smith.
You've just given me a flashback to working for the royal mail redirect service, some of those were a nightmare!

You'd read the rules and it'd say something like:
"redirect to new address for Jane Jones, J R Jones, Miss JR Jones, Mstr J Jones"

"Do not redirect to new address for James Jones, Mr J Jones"

*Pile of letters all just say to J Jones*
o_O

Delighted to see my unborn daughter's name pop up a few times. It's not going to stop me though. No, it's not a double-barrelled name - I want to give her a good start in life.

Paul - terrible ex
Ben - terrible ex
Rosemary
Tom, Steve, John, Ian - yawn
Sapphire, Emerald, Ruby - keep it to the jewels
