I think a lot of teachers love to think their job is the worst thing ever…..
Having worked in different industries there are pros and cons but outside teaching doesn’t equate to easier less stressful jobs. Yet some in teaching think other jobs are a pile of piss

I agree that a lot of teachers only ever seem to socialise with other teachers and they slowly lose sight of what life is actually like outside of teaching.

As with any job, some teachers work hard and some don’t. I think it’s easy to hide as a tit teacher whereas with my job there’s just no way you can hide or have a day where you don’t get much done.

I know a family where all but one are teachers. They had a holiday together and the black sheep non-teacher was so exhausted from her job and really needed the time to decompress and relax (but still had to take her laptop) and the teachers were like “let’s go, why are you so tired?” The teachers didn’t really need the time as they’d just had a fortnight’s break the month before whilst the non-teacher had been working 60 hour weeks without a break for over four months and was knackered. She hasn’t been away with them since.

I have a few friends in the teaching profession and in all cases they are people who have been drawn to it as a career change and who genuinely put their heart and soul into it. What they tell me about the frustrations of bureaucracy, cost cutting, crap management would have me running in the opposite direction like DBiwi from a banana, yet they all (currently) feel the satisfaction of the job outweighs the stresses.

More power to them, it's something I could never do. Good teachers make a priceless difference to students. Remind me why mumsnet hates them?

By her own calculations she should have about 18 months left.

Edit - I've just read her thread from last year "saying goodbye" where she'd been discussed either on here or reddit. I now feel bad 🙁

She had several threads running at one time, all about her resilience in dealing with her illness, then when someone suggested she write a blog, she huffed off to Instagram.

Nope, she’s there - one thread discussing (again) how her son will do in secondary school and another about her teen daughter’s grades, under Imagoodperson999 and Forthisthread222, respectively.
