I’m not sure anyone gives a duck what your DH would think, ex welder or otherwise.

Why don't all the people who complain that teachers have a cushy job with amazing holidays (‍) go and bloody do it then and stop whining.

I personally think teaching is the most important job there is. I also think being a teacher can be pretty tit depending on what you teach, the age group, the kids, the parents, the head, the school, the country etc.

And I absolutely know I couldn't do it, wouldn't do it. The pay could be 500k a year and I wouldn't do it. Reading just Mumsnet never mind other forums, social media, media and real life, I'm surprised there's any teachers left.

I dunno when it stopped being the menopause and became perimenopause. Obvs I understand the slow, inescapable march is toward the final state, but I’m sure it just used to be called that part and wasn’t this whole era thing

My Dd2 did her primary school teaching degree , she did teaching for a year but couldn't bear it and is now working for the civil service. She said it was awful , the kids were so badly behaved, so much pressure was put on the teachers to adhere to all the red tape and policies , there was so much stress it just wasn't worth it .

OP: my period has just started and I was due to have a bikini wax this week for my vacation next weekend. What can I do to remove the hair? Waxing is too painful during my period and I don’t think it’s hygienic for the waxer.

My dad was a welder, and then he DIED! So. I can't ask him what he thinks, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he thinks that poster is a bleep.

Daughter-in-law is the same. Incredibly stressful job nowadays. She has been attacked in the classroom by a teenaged boy, there is little discipline, parents don't back teachers up - on the contrary, no-one can discipline their darlings, teaching protocols change constantly, and before any method gets a chance to show results it is superseded by the next, everything is aimed towards "results" forcing teachers almost to "drill" information in, and not give any child the joy of learning for its own sake . . . .

I'd hate to be a teacher now.

I’m an ex teacher and I left because it was tit. I’m not saying it’s the hardest job in the world but it’s bloody difficult. I’m not a DWelder though so what would I know

I was a secondary school teacher for ten years. Left in 2015
It’s a bit of a tit gig because your ‘holidays’ are mainly work or you’re paying £££ to go on holiday with all kids on their holidays.
There is zero flexibility in teaching so you can’t go to the dentist or hospital appointment.
Management are always crap because they only got there because they were good teachers but with zero managerial training.
however it’s pretty good pay. Teachers who are still teaching love to moan and complain about having the worst job in the world which it isn’t.
There are a lot of positives and if you hate it leave.
a lot of naval gazing goes on and I think a lot of teachers don’t want to relinquish their classroom and being their own boss to take a different job.
I think a lot of teachers love to think their job is the worst thing ever…..
Having worked in different industries there are pros and cons but outside teaching doesn’t equate to easier less stressful jobs. Yet some in teaching think other jobs are a pile of piss

I’ve done corporate and I’ve worked in schools. IME public sectors have no bleeping idea what a truly terrible working environment is… however, the Scottish school system is a total clusterfuck right now with the curriculum for excellence/no child left behind , discipline/exclusionary measures unallowed and the lack of specialist schools - which means unfortunately that “no pupil” can excel.

I come from a family of teachers, back in the day when people could actually be taught. I'm so glad I bucked the trend and did something else, teaching these days would be a killer.

Why did the mumsnet poster mention her husband was a welder? In what way is that relevant? My husband is a joiner. I’m an underwriter. Neither profession can be related to teaching. Is it some kind of bizarre one-upmanship?
