Poor kids. I know a Beyoncé who’s about 12, little white Welsh girl, and a boy called Robbie-Williams. Williams is a very common surname in Wales, along with Evans, Davies, Owen and Jones. This kid’s surname isn’t Williams though, RW is his first name.

There's a thread in education about extra time in exams that has brought out all the "there's too many diagnoses, the regular kids are disadvantaged now, it's all made up" brigade. The ableism on that site is staggering sometimes. And the basis of the thread was the news that the stats on how many kids get extra time in exams have been wildly exaggerated for years so actually there aren't thousands of teenagers getting accomodations in exams at all. Clearly MNers need extra time to understand this though.
The ableism is one of the main reasons I stopped looking at the place. As someone with two Sen kids the idea that anything is just handed to you cos you made up a diagnosis is laughable when you’ve stopped raging at the idiots!!! My son will probably get some extra time in his exams - I’m still not sure because school have to go through vigorous testing to make sure they only give it to the one they need!

It's not even been wildly exaggerated - it was an error in recording the data, basically adding up all the separate arrangements that included Extra time for each application and for each exam (as toilet breaks with time back = ET, Movement breaks = ET Human Reader and Scribe = ET, meaning somebody with agreed AAs to be able to go to the toilet and get time back, has movement breaks and needs somebody to read the questions out and write down what the kid says the answer is, such as would happen if they'd been in an accident and broken a leg and arm, but also happens already to qualify for a lower period of ET due to Dyslexia, for example - and then sat A Levels two years later with different arrangements with a lower period of ET - have all been counted separately instead of as one single incidence of eligibility for Extra Time).
It's a data issue and absolutely nothing to do with whether any of the AAs should have been granted in the first place - that conversation needs to happen once the data has been looked at again (it would be relatively simple to concatenate into per student - relatively is doing a lot of heavy lifting there, but they are all recorded under student ID, so shouldn't be that difficult).
But why let Data issues get in the way of a rant about kids with disabilities getting something their kid doesn't need? They're still going to go for it at every opportunity.
