A hamlet is where you get a few houses together but no church or other villagey stuff, if anyone's interested (probably not lol.)

Mumsnet has been crashing my browser for months now with 'memory creep' so I've more or less given up on it now after a decade addicted (lurker not poster!) but I am MUCH CALMER without it. The people on there are horrible. Even the nice ones aren't that nice. You can get quite depressed if you sink into Mumsnet and start to believe it's real life!

So I'm just keeping up with it via this thread, which is funnier and smarter than MN ever was.

Just needed to get this off my chest- never have I heard/read the bleeping word 'hobby' as much as I have on MN. Yes I know it's a real word but I barely hear it used in real life and it just makes me think of someone leaping around on a hobby horse toy yelling neigh.
I've said the same previously but you improved upon it with the added neighing! 😄

The latest new thing I keep seeing on MN..

when someone discusses wanting to be engaged/married etc and for example the posters says ‘we have discussed getting married.. but no ring’

and then you get the MN posters who think they are sooo clever and the reply is ALWAYS ‘well if you’ve discussed marriage, then you’re engaged, why do you need a ring, just book the date’

ffs- DISCUSSING something doesnt cement the deal!!!

Alsoooo forgot to say, the ones who say they don’t need a fancy proposal (obviously along with the registary office wedding in their bin bag dress with the homeless person as their witness) are the exact same ones who have a meltdown every birthday/xmas/mothers day over a lack of card 🤣

Oh I hate that mindset they have! Some women want a romantic proposal and they shouldn’t feel guilty for that! Nor should they have to propose themselves just because their boyfriend hasn’t yet. I’d hate talking about engagement then just getting married like you’re booking a cinema visit, they seem to think everyone should. I bet they’re married to the most boring men ever if that’s how underwhelming their married life began (always on their secret hobbies that involve wheels or balls but too outing to name of course)

Haha exactly! I hate it when anyone posts something nice that they want or has happened there are always posters waiting in the wings to say how much they hate said thing, how crap and unnecessary it is, how they did y instead which is much superior; of course whilst say behind their screens green with envy.

There’s another poster on the OOTD thread who takes a photo of herself in the same mirror everyday but because of the dim lighting it also looks like the same outfit everyday.

And where is DDog? She’s deliberately depriving us 😩

My mother and I can get through a pack in a day! Hence we don't buy it very often.

Really fancy some now, yum yum.

You don't put Malibu in Long Island tea! It's called Long Island tea because they used to drink it during prohibition and it contains more alcohol than any other cocktail - vodka, gin, tequila, rum and triple sec. Not sweet coconut liquor.
I thought that didn't sound right.

It’s true. Someone will always quote “Money talks, wealth whispers”. They all love to think they are so classy and only associate with extremely well-heeled people, in their little villages and hamlets, looking scruffy AF but that’s OK because only poor-person-scruffy is bad.

Someone posted that they lived in a hamlet the other day. I don’t even know what a hamlet IS.
Anytime I see 'money talks', I just break into "but it can't sing and dance and it can't walk".

Omg, yes! I thought the same! Also the poster who just lists where she got her clothes from without posting a pic;

Top - Boden
Jeans- Primark
Shoes - Pre loved from Hotter

Whyyyy?! What’s the point?! Just write it your sad little diary. No one cares.

Those crumpled culottes don't flatter anyone, ever, no matter how tall and willowy they may be.

I love the way Mumsnetters regard a crisp white shirt, tailored trousers and polished brogues as the epitome of classy office wear. I bet most of them are in their PJ's on the sofa all day, watching Bargain Hunt.

Do any of them actually work in offices? Are they all in senior corporate roles where bare legs with summer dresses are frowned on? Frowned on by who FFS? It's 2023, not 1973, where a flash of bare leg might have been deemed saucy.

There was a thread recently where someone asked if a couple of dresses were suitable for office wear. One was sleeveless, and there were so many posts saying sleeveless dresses/blouses are really inappropriate for the office. Whaaaa? Are they? I wear sleeveless stuff all the time in the summer, I'm not talking spaghetti strap cami tops but just regular blouses tucked into a skirt or trousers, and I see so many others wear similar both in my office and a bazillion other London offices from what I see on my commute. I really don't know what planet these women live on.

they live on a planet where they don’t actually work! the stuff they suggest for office wear is so outdated. They either don’t work or are advising based on when they did work 20 years ago!

Most office’s are very casual now from what I have seen. Haven’t seen anyone wear heels in the office in so long.
