I’m in total agreement with you! I’ve just seen her story about this post and how she’s being trolled about making up mental health issues so I look here…. No one has said that?
When she first started saying these things a few weeks ago it left such a bitter taste in my mouth. I had my baby a few weeks apart from her and I’ve been in and out of hospital for months with PPD and a myriad of other mental health issues.
Don’t get me wrong I’m pretty sure every single woman on the planet has some change of mental state after having a baby…. and every woman is entitled to talk about their struggles etc…AND no one’s journey is ‘harder’ than another’s so it should never be a competition.
The real issue isn’t that she’s ‘making it up’ or lying, it’s how flippantly she just ‘self-diagnosed’ herself and decided to put that label on herself and make videos about it without addressing or respecting the severity that just a label can have on people.
I felt like an idiot when I first watched her video, knowing I had argued with a million doctors and begged for help, and I know a lot of women are still massively stigmatised for having PPD or belittled as baby blues etc.
I personally don’t feel that Caroline handled it with any tact, or consideration for her audience, and she might argue back that it’s not her responsibility to manage my feelings (which is correct, if I don’t like it I shouldn’t watch it.) but in all honesty if you’re a content creator who wants people to consume your content you should really think about how you feed into the negative narrative of women’s perinatal mental health, and not just call everyone with a different opinion a troll.
