Every Christmas my mum was sat with a bin bag beside her, my dad had scissors, batteries and screwdrivers ready to open and build everything while my mum collected the wrapping paper and anything else we discarded. Surely most families did the same?

most old photos you see of people's Christmas days the mum has a bin bag beside her. Why are these people acting like they invented this set up? I am all for organisation but they make up boxes for the most stupidest of things.
In our house it was my dad with a potato sack-he doesn’t do black bags (he’s an eco warrior, long before it became trendy-he lost the plot one year when my aunt wrapped everything in all in non recyclable paper) we have the photos somewhere
my mother would be there with the screwdriver and batteries,we’d be ripping paper all over with place with dad screaming at us to ‘slow down!I can’t keep up with all four of you!’
then we’d be like ‘oh thanks dad!I really wanted xyz!’
dad-what did I get you?(not one for shopping my dad) with my mother giving us dirty looks cos dad and the fat guy in the red suit where getting all the credit for her hard work, that looking back she’d been at it all year for the moment her husband got the credit
my grandad would be sat there, watching us while trying to stop my dad from passing out with the stress of separating the paper and calming my mother down and making sure she wasn’t anywhere near a frying pan (she has form for smacking my dad over the head with one)
at some point my mother would crack open the Sherry and say ‘
duck it’
they where the days…
