The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if Putin let it out as its only in the Western countries so far haha

Seriously though from everything I've seen and read so far there doesn't seem to be too much to worry about at this stage. The media are loving it though, they got a taste of constant crisis since brexit and don't want to let it go.

As someone else said, we all seem perfectly comfortable with awfully high numbers of things like heart disease, cancer, obesity etc. But something like this causes panic stations

Chickenpox isn’t as severe as Monkeypox to certain groups.
There are many viruses that are severe to certain groups that doesn’t mean an entire class should isolate because one person has it.

The more we keep “isolating” and attempting to “contain” viruses, the weaker the populations immunity will be as a whole. Look around at the childrens hepatitis cases - they are linking it to lockdowns. Think of how many more things like this will happen if people aren’t allowed to get sick anymore. Monkeypox for the majority of people is a mild illness and should be treated as such. If someone doesn’t want to take the risk they can stay at home but an entire class shouldn’t lose out on education because one or two are sick.

Apparently there's a vaccine for chicken pox but it's not administered in the UK often. Seems to be more commonly used in the US though, not sure about Canada

Either way, and as my brief Google search suggests, schools/nurseries may (or should? Someone here probably knows more) notify parents that someone has chickenpox and to watch out for symptoms. I'd assume the same would be done with monkeypox. Think the bigger problem is in countries where schools don't seem to have the same/similar approaches to keeping parents informed and children healthy though
We had chickenpox in my sons class a few months ago. We didn’t receive any official warning. It was talked about in the parents group chat. Half the class got it and half didn’t. It’s just part of life! There is a vaccine but it’s not given routinely on the nhs because it isn’t appropriate to do so. Children with chicken pox help adults retain their immunity so it’s helpful for the population for children to get chickenpox whereas if they are vaccinated their immunity can wear off and they can suffer more severely themselves with chicken pox or shingles.

Oh look a tattle thread about a virus
This is familiar 🙃🙃

Seriously though thank you for this. It's always good when people are sharing info from different sources.
It's a mystery this isn't it? It's the amount of countries seeing cases that is the most puzzling part for me

It won't be forgotten if people can get 3 weeks off work for it. Isolations all over the place.

The amount of reports on this monkey business is getting a bit carried away for the tiny amount of confirmed cases. Would anyone seriously get the smallpox vaccine or lockdown or isolate for 3 weeks all over a mild illness?!

We’ll be clapping on the doors by next Thursday! Don’t forget to have your rainbow paintings ready

The annoying this is they're wording it just like Covid. Even the BBC are on the hype train.

Time to dust off the DIY hazmat suit! Now with added shinpads and hard-hat for extra assertiveness, a winning edge when going for that last bag of pasta.

Hopefully we won't actually see any homophobic abuse from this 😑 (chance would be a fine thing)

My anxiety and overthinking cannot cope with something like this again. Probably a stupid question but realistically how much do I need to panic?? 🙁
You don’t have to. Right now anyway, it was 15,000 cases from the entire continent of Africa with approximately 1.2 billion people.

With 461 deaths from the 15k cases. = 3% of those who caught it died.

97% recovered.

Did each person who passed away have underlying health conditions? Did they die from or with it?

Covid cases:

We need Neil Ferguson back on the case.

You need to have very close contact with someone to get it, so the risk is pretty low.

I'm sure it won't be long before the lecterns are brought out again, and Boris, Chris Whitty et al gather with their PowerPoint presentations to tell us how dire the situation is, and contemplate more restrictions to keep us safe.

I think we've all had enough now and deserve a break.

Public health emergency declared
Not again 🤦‍♀️
It's like some kind of doom loop.
They've even gave it a catchier name Mpox ( probably didn't want to offend monkeys)
Could. Not. Give. A.crap.
