after extensive research my smartphone doesnt seem to have any of the disable functions. I'm turning it off full stop for later

Curious to see what would happen at the Premier league match kicking off at 3pm. 40 000 or so sirens all going off at once

Ditto the London marathon, where I live is a common place to watch and it is rammed with people, almost tempted to go and see what jt is like at 3pm

Just because you're not likely to experience it doesn't mean that no one needs it. Plenty of people live near rivers or the sea and the alerts would likely only be if there's a 100% chance of flooding and a danger to life caused by it

Missile alerts normally get used to tell people to seek shelter. We're not exactly a country that's at war or have an annoying neighbour like North Korea, so we wouldn't get these alerts and even if we did... we'd be completely useless because we're not educated

It does strike as significant that the system is being rolled out during a war in Europe but it also seems like a system we should have had ages ago just in case in general

As I would understand, the alert system can be limited to only one location because technology these days is very smart

I mean they are collecting it for advertising purposes, but you are paying a minor price for getting discounts but honestly who cares? I also don't think the data is that accurate as I (single, childfree with cats) constantly get adverts for baby products

It's sort of silly given that the data isn't really the same as that collected online by social media platforms/Google though

That would make sense with differing parts of the country more prone to certain weather conditions…I’m just waiting for a alert to come through then I’ll know I can safely hang out my washing.

I believe it's the Environment Agency that do flood alerts. They are via text and area specific and I have a scale of seriousness. Some alerts are for information/ awareness rather than actual warnings.

At least a message came up so if there is imminent danger we know it works.

I didn't get one i assume based on the one level of signal I have in my flat. Doomed to drown when the river near me floods I guess
