I imagine that what seems a high level to an ordinary person is far less high for a person who has a very high tolerance to drugs.

In his book Matt spoke openly about acquiring drugs illicitly through doctor contacts. I can see him quite easily acquiring additional ketamine to supplement the therapy.

This is a man who battled demons each and every day. I can only imagine what a lonely struggle life is for an addict. It was a miracle he was still alive given the toll his decades long addiction had taken on his body and mind.

People are quick to judge drug addiction and are unable to imagine themselves in that position. It's so important to remember this is a mental illness we're talking about.

Sadly, Matt is a very good example of how you can have fame, charisma, millions in the bank and still be unhappy. This was a troubled lonely man and I really hope that the autopsy doesn't change his legacy.

I can unfortunately see naive people saying 'but he lied about being clean, he was on drugs'. It's not that black and white. He deserves to be remembered for the important work he did to help those with addiction.

Shocked but not not surprised.
Absolutely love friends, but my opinion of him changed after reading his book. Unfortunately throughout the book he never once took responsibility for his addictions and the people he hurt along the way (a huge part of recovery). I never bought the 'happy ending' of him being magically sober and fixed, and unfortunately it was only a matter of time before something like this happened.
Very sad all round.

There is a really interesting take on Perry over on YouTube re the friends reunion. He says he doesn't remember filming a lot of the show but was never drunk or under the influence whilst filming just seriously hungover. I also didn't realise how much work he has done to help people with addiction.
The chandler character is allegedly very close to Perry himself and he was the only cast member involved with writing. I hope he is sober, he seems very honest about his struggle with addiction.

Completely agree. He seems to be quite a fragile person in terms of his addiction issues and he’s certainly been photographed looking quite unwell within the past couple of years. I’m not seeing him as the exploitative one here.

No me either. Yes maybe he shouldn't have messaged a teenager but she clearly was out to honey trap older celebs. He says ' I'm old enough to be your dad' or something so it's not as if hes trying to make himself alluring to a teenager by saying that. And she has chosen someone who is a long term recovering addict to humiliate in public.

A woman successfully sued her dealer in Saskatchewan for getting her hooked and damaging her liver and kidneys. I remember when Cathy Smith injected John Belushi with a fatal dose of speedballs and she served 15 months in prison for it. She was charged with murder, but got the plea down to manslaughter. The assistant better have a good lawyer.

The way prescription meds are given out in the states should quite frankly be criminal. But it never will be as companies make so much money from it. There's too much assumption that because a doctor has prescribed it and it's legal that it's fine. Having good healthcare can make things worse.

His age is no age considering life expectancy, but with what he's been through it's unfortunately what you'd expect.

The cast would only ever release a short statement to acknowledge. There's nothing more to say and they all had different relationships with him. It's not like they're going to meet up to shoot a video or photo.

The media is struggling to get people in his life willing to comment. They've had on people who never met him but had a few lines in one episode on as some expert. The mail is rehashing quotes from years ago to pretend an ex is saying something now.

Some really interesting points. I think I feel so bad for him because I loved his character in Friends and also because he seemed so desperate and pathetic really in the end. So vulnerable and a world away from the glam lifestyle he should have had.
But the comments on here have made me think about that and it’s so true that he can’t be called innocent and all the blame put onto others. He even claimed he was sober and made a book out of it, so clearly lied and downplayed his addiction constantly. It will be really interesting to see what comes out from these charges, specifically what defence the PA gives.

I woke up at about 2.30 am and saw the Sky News notification on my phone and have struggled to sleep since. I really liked him. Yes, he had his demons, but he has been so honest about his struggles and how he tried to overcome them. So sad for his family and friends. A heart attack at his young age is just not fair. I assume the drug dependency had done some damage to his heart and him playing sports a while before caused this.

I agree the PA is nowhere near as culpable as the Drs and dealers involved, but I don't think he's entirely innocent either. If someone I was working for expected me to go out and illegally source drugs as part of my job I would 100% refuse. Because I know what would happen if I was caught. And if anyone was sacked for refusing to inject their employer with ketamine, I think they would have a very strong case for unfair dismissal! I appreciate he may have felt under pressure to do as he was told, but it was not his only option.

Why do people think all of the Matt man / Batman posts were a cry for help ?

1) the posts were out of character from his usual style of posting i.e. cryptic captions and posting in quick succession after a long period of silence
2) the pic of the cranberries - the lead singer of the band The Cranberries died from drowning in 2018
3) the foreshadowing of his last post being in a hot tub is eerie
4) one of his captions said "do you understand what i'm trying to tell you?" in hindsight people are thinking it couldve been a cry for help.
5) he said in his book he would send out a batman signal if he needed help

I can’t either. He was a comic genius and so hugely likeable.

I dunno but Lisa Kudrow’s comment after he died ‘he must have taken something that didn’t agree with warm water’ resonates. At the time, it seemed somewhat insensitive but now it seems shocking he was anywhere near the damn pool being so heavily sedated. Also, makes you wonder if they (Friends cast) knew well he was far from sober but couldn’t help him. I think the addiction made his world very small because of the necessity to hide it. He probably studiously avoided his old pals and surrounded himself with enablers and suppliers instead. Perfectly understandable - you don’t want to keep lying to people so you ignore them completely.

They must have known. That reunion video they did, he looked absolutely wrecked - physically and mentally - and Jennifer in particular looked genuinely worried and upset. You only had to look at him in the last few months of his life to know that he was beyond help. All the money in the world but the only person who could help him was himself.
