The roast it self will have a liquid in it from cooking, we use it to moist the meat and potatoes.
Salad is a side dish. Not to be mixed with the roast

yes!!! In Portugal its usual a big cut of meat and potatoes. The vegetables are optional. But we usual have rice on the side too. And fresh salad. Usually made by the elder woman in the family (legend says the elderly they are the better it tastes)
