A few years ago, I moved out of an old apartment and left my Lostprophets albums behind because not even the local charity shops would take them.

What gets me is that wasn't he recently busted again after trying to obtain more images of children while behind bars? That man will never, ever be rehabilitated.

Wow! Didn’t know that. The brass neck on him. He is truly the embodiment of evil. So, so depraved. Reading about what he did left me very disturbed and upset for a long time. Pure rum.

He is despicable (Watkins). I was never a huge Lostprophets fan, but everytime I hear his name mentioned I inevitably get one of their songs in my head. I remember what a tune Shinobi vs Dragon Ninja was. No way could I ever bring myself to listen to it again though. If that's even possible? I don't know if their stuff is still on YouTube, I wouldn't even want to search for it

And coming into discussions like this and just saying "I know he's still alive" is rather like Vaguebooking of the worst kind.

As if he knows where Richey is and, given the opportunity to give his family some peace 15 years ago, decided to keep schtum. Pull the other one.

Agreed with all of the above and people need to drop the wild conspiracies. Another incident that was doing the rounds was back in 2006 (ish) when James was touring his solo album, The Great Western. He was violently accosted after one of his shows by some mad woman, shouting at him that he knew where Richey is and what happened to him. As if it wasn't bad enough that he's had to live with the burden of being the last person to see Richey, he's had to put up with that nonsense too. I feel so bad for him.

And coming into discussions like this and just saying "I know he's still alive" is rather like Vaguebooking of the worst kind.

God I remember that. He was LIVID by all accounts.

I loved that song and Fake Sound of Progress. Would turn my stomach to hear any of his music now

Sure. So you know, and presumably other people involved know, that an interview *almost* took place 15 years ago with someone who was definitely ‘Ritchie’ but the only person who has ever mentioned it since then is you, now. Completely believable, aye.

And none of these people saw fit to end the suffering of Richey's family, which included his now deceased parents. Wonderful human beings.

There’s many problems with coming on and claiming you KNOW Richey’s alive, but the fact that we have been discussing the very real possibility that the man may have been a danger to women and abusive in his treatment of them only to have someone claim ‘yeah but I KNOW he’s alive’ lessens the credibility of what we’ve been discussing.
He was a very distinctive man with scars and tattoos. The likelihood that he’s on a beach in Goa somewhere without someone seeing these and recognising him is extremely unlikely.
What is likely however, is the man’s treatment of groupies was at best bad.

Started reading that book, the quote about exploiting children is cracked out in the opening pages as he’s being rooted in the South Wales coal mining class and economic wars - which has put me off a bit since I read it’s a defence of sexual wrong doing.

I’m a casual Manics fan too - went to see them at Brixton Academy a long time ago. They were late we gave me the right hump.

Sorry to bring Watkins up again but for my birthday my first ever bf bought me it for my birthday, after it got 5 star k! Review, we refer to that purchase as, "the gift that keeps on giving".


I would love to read tales from groupies from around the early 90s era.
I think early 90s was just as cool as 60s for music scene

Yes I remember reading this! Apparently the woman had been properly harassing him for some time and they were threatening to get the police involved. As if the band weren't dealing with enough, the weirdo fans that Richey attracted still haven't left them alone all these years later.

I would have loved to be a fan in the early days but I feel my patience with CoR (Cult of Richey) would have run out pretty quick. Fan drama is bad enough now on the internet, it would have been insane in those days. However when I saw the Manics last month, I video called my fan friends from the barrier and filmed a bit of the gig for them as they couldn't go - it did blow my mind a bit thinking 'Imagine telling a fan in 1991 I'm doing this 30 years later!!'

Definitely, it's all about the glamorous allure those bands had. Manics, Suede, Mansun - the antithesis to the laddishness of a lot of other Britpop bands.

I would also include Marion, who were a personal favourite of mine, but I can count the number of people I know who have heard of them on one hand. They were another band that should've been bigger, but drug excess took its hold. I'm sure Brandon Flowers must have been a fan; Hot Fuss is very reminiscent of Marion, to me.

I ADORED Marion. It’s such a shame they didn’t/couldn’t pull it back when things went sideways. I saw them live a few times and I remember those gigs as some of the best I’ve ever been to (and I’ve seen a LOT of bands live).
