I unsubbed ages ago when Sid came on the scene, so had no idea she had written a book. What is it about?
It's tips for getting through uni, just an ebook. I don't imagine it's done well at all since she's barely mentioned it recently.

£9 for a 40 page Ebook seems extortionate to me, especially when the majority of her tips will be in her YouTube videos already

I can't believe anyone would buy it to be honest as it looks incredibly basic and as you say all the 'tips' are easily found on free articles on the web and on Youtube videos. Who on earth agreed to publish such a thing and what were they thinking?

I'm pretty sure it's self published

Well, what do you make of yesterday's vlog?

It's great that her social/networking life is taking off. Her own YouTube girly group Meet was successful with their walk, with 20 people there. The other Sydney girl Meet group is also going well, and she even took Sid to their couples' event. Plus she's been meeting up with Pippa.

However, she's admitted she is spending beyond her means and the job-hunting is really tough. Her idea of a combined coffee shop and in-house social media role seemed perfect, but no manager was there for her arranged interview. It seems as soon as she mentions she is on a six-month working visa they lose interest.

I'm really pleased Lydia is sticking to a weekly Saturday vlog upload. Let's hope her job-hunting finally goes well, before her savings run out.

She was exhausting in her weekly vlog, so woe is me about finding a job as if she doesn’t already have one that she’s been using money from to gallivant around for the last 6 months but is now ‘desperate for a job’. She can’t be surprised companies don’t want her if she isn’t saying she’s on a whv upfront

Surely they had enough money to fund 3 months there so you think she wouldn't be panicking just yet about cash, but also I think she needs to be more realistic and apply for any jobs if they're planning to only be there 6 months.

She's never had to budget for anything and has always spent freely. Fair play to her, her channel did well and she took full advantage of that. But now her channel is dead she has no idea how to live on a reduced income. And no idea what a normal job is.

This will happen to a lot of 'influencers' at least it has happened early so she can reinvent herself as an ordinary person.

I really can't see her taking a minimum-wage menial job in a supermarket or cafe, with no superstar social media element, working anti-social hours stacking shelves or scrubbing floors. She would deem it "unsuitable" (ie beneath her), in the same manner she declared Leeds an unsuitable place to start her career, saying only London or Manchester would be up to her requirements in the UK.

To be fair she does have a bachelors degree so surely there should be options in relation to her degree?

Yes but she's got a totally generic "Business" degree from a uni that no-one outside the UK has ever heard of. Generic bachelor's degrees are, sadly, unlikely to make you stand out in the job market.

Yeah, I was surprised she didn’t go straight into a Masters degree when she finished

Me too. Given that things aren't exactly going swimmingly at the moment I'd imagine this will be her next move.
Real life hits hard, agree she will definitely go back to the academic bubble. Also she hasn't been able to transition from studytube on her channel so will be able to back to her comfort zone.

I’m still surprised that she did a degree in business. I remember her really liking history or something and then all of a sudden she applied to do business??

She would have never met Sid if she had chosen another course...

She does seem motivated by money so I guess she thought it would be a more lucrative choice.

I think most youtubers major in business or marketing. Imo, a lot of current youtubers lack career aspirations outside of making a lot of money, so they do a business or marketing degree hoping that it will help them become a better influencer with the added bonus of having a degree to fall back on if youtube doesn't pan out.

Sid is away again in her newest video. I still feel like there's trouble brewing.
