Ugh, this doesn't feel good. I know we'd figured it out but surely he didn't need to be on the front pages.

The comments are almost all calling it out and expressing sympathy for his wife and kids.

The part that isn’t “good” is people “figuring it out” and posting clues and coming very close to committing a criminal offence. The court order has been lifted and so there is absolutely no issue with newspapers reporting it. The original purpose of the order was nothing to do with his wife and children, it was (like many other medical witnesses) to encourage them to give evidence without damage to their professional reputations.

I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but if anyone had the knowledge to kill themselves by diabetic coma it would be him.
His life had gone down the toilet and dying from a medical reason would mean his family would still get any insurance.
It could just be that I’m an old cynic.
I must admit I wondered the same! Very tragic either way. What he did was stupid and unprofessional but it doesn't seem like he was an evil person. I feel sorry for his family.

So, his wife, children and family....yet more victims in this sorry case. No doubt Letby will be grieving for him far more than the poor babies she murdered.

His poor wife, children and family. I can’t imagine how they’ve suffered over all this time anyway, never mind today. What a complicated situation this all is. Hope they’re well supported :(

I Find this very odd….
Mr Deakin, himself a diabetic, also accessed Baby N's medical records inappropriately, including after Letby was convicted, the investigation found.
Why on earth would he put himself in this position knowing he was in trouble already for passing on information, this was after she was convicted so nothing to gain by looking at the records.
I feel for his family having the press on their door now.
I suspect he was looking back to see what was in the records, knowing what he had said to Letby, that she wouldnt have otherwise known. He obviously knew he would be investigated and wanted to prepare his excuses early. Only my theory though

I agree but they were only able to post clues because his name was not redacted that one time!
Also I thought it was everything to do with them, his children being in exams is given as the literal reason it was granted, I thought

I feel sad thinking that his wife probably never told their kids about this, and now her hand must have been forced to tell them everything knowing that their dad's face was going to be plastered all over the news...a horrible situation.

I may have missed earlier convos about this but did the BBC really publish the wrong picture?? As in, they used a picture of the wrong person? If so that’s pretty bad isn’t it

Correction: The original version of this story was published with an incorrect picture which has since been amended”

An error in failing to refer his redact his name does not mean that repeating it, or providing details allowing other people to guess, isn’t a criminal offence. There are articles listing the babies’ names, anyone posting them here would still be committing a crime. There were a few medical witnesses who accepted the anonymity which was offered because a lot of witnesses in these circumstances won’t want to give evidence in case it impacts their careers.

Incredibly stupid man to have allowed his professional integrity to have become so compromised by this walking monster with thin lips.
His wife must have gone through heartache knowing her husband was infatuated with this flabby idiot with thin hair .
And to have them seen him commit suicide when his whole career was wiped off the table!!!

What a disgusting person letby is, murdering witch . Rot

I’m so sick of seeing her wonky faced, massive chinned, dead eyed mugshot. It makes it even more unfathomable the simps like Hitchens/Gill/that drunken wreck who’s name escapes me probably having a tug over thoughts of exonerating it. 🤢

I was a lurker on the Letby theads during the trial (although very much on the guilty side!), but I'm confused about this doctor who has been named. I thought the mystery boyfriend doctor was Asian – I'm not sure if he was ever named here, but I do remember people seeming to know who he was and giving clues. Was that someone else?

I think i obviously incorrectly, perceived the same.
And thought he was much younger than he turned out to be

I do think this is really awful for his family but given the professional misconduct I don’t think he should have remained anonymous even if he hadn’t died. I think the outcome of his sacking in May/June tipped over into public interest. Think of all the families that have unknowingly had him care for their child. Regardless of Letby’s convictions, he breached patient confidentiality.

Unfortunately it’s because he wanted anonymity during and post trial, that it now all comes out after he’s died. He doesn’t have to face it but his family unfortunately does but that’s a decision he made (and maybe his wife). I hope to god they had told his kids about his involvement before any of this. I think they may be adults now.

I don’t think he deserved to die but I also think I have very little sympathy for him? Another man not only thinking with his fool first but also putting his own interests before his tiny patients.

I'm glad it wasn't just me! I haven't been on this thead for awhile, so I think I'm starting to forget some of the details. I still don't know which Asian doctor I was thinking of – I know it wasn't Dr Ravi. Oh well! 🤦‍♀️
