She must have given her parents a long list of everyone’s phone numbers, or, conspiracy theory they got them from elsewhere, because they were even ringing people without Letbys knowledge weren’t they ? I assume internal NHS numbers aren’t public domain. And no one thought to say no to the parents. It’s just so odd.

Why would Sue lie about this and more importantly, why would Bergerac lie - to protect John Letby?

With Letby’s parents? No, they will be raging. I don’t think they will ever believe she did this.
They know she did it, deep down. Why else would her mother scream, "I did it! Take me instead!"

The Letbys are truly dreadful people. Controlling and narcissistic. They are unbelievable but I suspect John Letby ruled that house with a rod of iron and was just not willing to set Lucy free from his control. Hodkinson seems to have been fairly honest and taken the right steps though which is a real anomaly in that management.
The execs trying to blame the consultants for not articulating their concerns well enough just doesn’t wash at all does it? Like BNE2 says, it wasn’t complicated. She had a significant increase of dead babies in her hospital - how can she sit there and still say/defend that it did it not feel like a safeguarding concern?
I hope we hear today exactly how and when Letby’s employment ended.

Honestly all of this “didn’t read the email” “didn’t open the attachment” “didn’t have time to look at documents” from everyone is sickening. It’s not an email inviting them to a cake sale or witching that the staff canteen hasn’t been cleaned. They’re emails about (at the time) a potential murderer working in the hospital. Attachments detailing evidence supporting the suspicions around the deaths of tiny babies. Didn’t have time? You make time for that. It should be your absolute priority. These people deserve to rot alongside LL.
She actually has the audacity to say she was so busy that she couldn’t read an email about mortality of babies but that clinicians, actually treating small children, should have come to her office (where she would presumably be being busy but not reading email attachments of reviews she’d asked for) if they were that worried.
Similarly, when Brearey practically begs her and IH to meet with them, they don’t turn up. They do however both attend a ‘babygrow appeal’ fundraiser shortly before the meeting. So they were around. Alison can’t possibly explain why they didn’t go without looking at her diary apparently. She was probably really really busy with something more important than a baby murderer loose on the neonatal unit.
It only "wasn't [a safeguarding concern] at the time" because she was too incompetent to recognise it as one.
I just keep thinking it didn’t even need to be relating to any suspicions of staff to take immediate priority. You have a hospital department where patients are rarely expected to die, seeing a significant increase of deaths in a short period of time. Even if it actually was “poor care”, why aren’t you doing anything? Why are you supposedly missing emails from the lead staff from the department? Why aren’t YOU on THEIR case for the increased mortality in your hospital?
i can’t see one thing she did that was proactive on her part. She’s an utter disgrace and it’s terrifying there may be other incompetent idiots like her running our hospitals.
I think she was just involved in a massive cover up and didn't want to get the police involved. Deliberate incompetence. It wasn't her job to protect the hospital it was her job to protect the patients.
If I read “we needed to know what was actually going on” one more bleeping time. I despise her.
On reflection I don’t recall if we knew this. But seems the suggestion of Dr B originated with a discussion of two execs and Rees. How disgusting for two execs to speculate this as some sort of motive for the allegations rather than think about safeguarding babies in the first instance.

The bottom line is, as the death rate on the unit was increasing, it should have been on AK’s radar. She should then have been actively pursuing meetings with the clinician lead for the unit (was this SB at the time?) to discuss and it would have been at this point he’d have expressed his views on LL. AK should then have taken further action. How many babies would have been saved if they’d done this properly? All this bull about not reading emails, not having enough evidence, being too busy etc. is utter bleeping balls and she’s using it to distract and deflect from her incompetence- it should never have got to that point she should have been on the ball and proactively looking at what was causing the increase of deaths. Her evidence screams “I didn’t give a tit about why patients were dying”. Unbelievable.
