The thing is they ultimately did remove Letby from patient contact without any investigation - showing that it could have been done earlier. If I was a parent of the later victims I would be launching the mother-of-all-lawsuits against the hospital.

Especially given the consultants already had these concerns before the triplets were born. I feel for the parents of baby Q, their baby was put at risk by not removing Letby after baby P's death but they didn't get justice for their baby.

Been reading Dr Green's transcript, they were quite rightly hard on him over his treatment of the consultants. Lucy's parents rang him twice before the grievance hearing to say how upset she was!

The barrister, Mr Baker sums up the absurdity of the grievance here.

I don’t know why I’m shocked her parents rang the person investigating her grievance. Twice. I shouldn’t be! Who the duck else did they ring?

Everyone who’s said she had a normal upbringing… they are showing quite clearly she didn’t.

Its bizarre. She wasnt even that young, she was a grown woman in her late 20s. Old enough to murder

I’m finally caught up. It’s all just mind blowing really.
Really confused by the fact that the head of the RCPCH seems to be an electrician (ok that’s an exaggeration) and have no clinical background 😵💫
It’s just all one cockup to the next. At least she had the decency to admit they ducked up several times and how serious that was. First witness to fully do so for a few days! All those involved with the grievance were total weasels. Only Sian Williams seemed genuinely remorseful. Hayley Cooper said how sorry she was for her texts but followed that with how it was eight years ago and she’s a different person 😅 well good job because you were an unprofessional head 💖
Sick of the excuses. How hard is it to say we were wrong and we’re sorry.

Exactly. They are tripping over themselves to wriggle out of it. They would look so much better, so much more professional, if they just held their hands up and said we got it very wrong. None of them have one iota of decency.

I’ve always tried to maintain empathy for everybody caught in Letby’s wake but watching them not recall and refuse to accept any mistakes has been so disappointing. Disappointed that it’s mostly women too that seem blinded by their weird misplaced motherly support for this beige narcissistic oddball with an inappropriate relationship with a married doctor. What was to like?? I think they just all felt powerful, controlling the situation rather than letting those pesky consultants get their way.

I think Letby was highly manipulative, which makes psychopathic tendencies more likely, all this playing one off against the other by telling them they were the only person she trusted, likely fed their egos and they played the role of supportive confidante to perfection. They lost all of their objectivity, credibility and professionalism along the way. The babies were relegated to the least important part of the story.

I think they were concerned about their own (and hospital’s) reputation.

They resented the Consultants getting the “upper hand”. Nurse managers are like this in my Trust too.

No thought for the victims.

I'd never thought about it before today when my husband asked if there was any chance of criminal proceedings against anyone else, as a result of the inquiry. Does anyone know if that's a possible outcome?

Possibly corporate manslaughter here is an article about it last year https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-67006930

"It will be for the CPS and the police to determine now if the conduct of the senior management at the Countess of Chester Hospital fell so far below what could reasonably have been expected of them, that their actions caused or contributed to the deaths of those seven children."

Agree, it appears to have become a ‘them and us’ power struggle.

I think this definitely accounts for why some of them aren’t taking responsibility or are doubling down on their actions being appropriate at the time rather than saying “I ducked up” and also probably why certain people have had legal representation too 👀

A lot may depend on what the CPS regards as being in the public interest. After this fiasco they may feel that individuals need to be held accountable.

I am struggling a lot reading the evidence and transcripts. I'll read some and then just feel so frustrated and angry at how many failings there were. And that the babies who died or suffered collapses were not at the forefront of the discussions. It's all Lucy, Lucy, Lucy.

The witness timetable for the week commencing 25th November is now up. We will be hearing testimonies from Ian Harvey and Tony Chambers.
booo. I was hoping they would have to sweat it out over Christmas.

I wonder if they will manage to extradite Ian Harvey from the South of France!

Here is an article reporting on the thirwell enquiry today

There wasn't been much live reporting recently. Hopefully Knapton has been banned. I'm guessing we will have more live commentary when Ravi Jayaram gives evidence later this week.
