I’m not trying to be ageist here, I’m in my 40s myself. But I have the perception that it’s the older nurses that seemed to pander to Lucy and couldn’t see past her nice nurse act, whereas the younger ones seemed to have a better measure of her. Does anyone else see this?
I'm not sure. I think it's the individual rather than the age. Plus the fact that Letby was a manipulator. I don't think it's anything to do with age, but maybe the younger nurses were working along side her, where Powell was a pretty useless manager and probably quite detached from bedside care so didn't see as much? I do find it strange how Letby gravitated towards people much older than herself- Dr Noname, mad Janet, Eirian ans Yvonne. Maybe looking for the maternal figure or did she feel that she could manipulate older people more easily in which case you could be right!

Just reading some of the backlog... she really was a tit nurse wasn't she? I suspect she's quite thick. They must be desperate for nurses to have let her get as far as she got.

But not just thick - also arrogant and vindictive and spiteful and vengeful. The significance of 'I killed them on purpose because I'm not good enough to care for them' has knocked me sick.

Local news on ITV has just reported that Powell has described her as the crème de la crème of nurses! She could hand pick the best nurses to work on her ward and LL was one of them.

Me too. I cannot stop thinking about it and believe this is the origin of her motive. She knew she wasn't good enough and couldn't stand that, and took it out on those poor babies and families. She loved the sympathy and attention she got. And then it also became about getting Dr A's attention as well. Evil, evil creature.

I also think her being annoyed at not being allowed to do meds after that very serious and nearly catastrophic incident shows just how self-centred and cold she is.

Surely the normal reaction wouldn't be annoyance. It would be shock and fear at having nearly been responsible for the death of a patient, in this case, a vulnerable baby. That should have been a huge red flag. If I'd made a mistake like that I'd never, ever want to administer medication again. Why didn't anyone note that that was a strange reaction to such a potentially fatal incident?

EP sounds as narcissistic, delusional and self absorbed as Letby. The level of arrogance is truly astonishing given what this is all about.

I wonder whether Lucy’s quietness and lack of expression was mistaken for composure and confidence? Not defending I just think if people don’t have attention to detail and aren’t fully across their brief these are the kind of misinterpretations that are made about people.

It’s bizarre the loyalty to Lucy.
clear incompetence, repeatedly yet somehow still beguiled by her.
I have no faith in a medical team who can but personal social preference above professional ability.

do these people still practise medicine?

I would have faith if they had regret / remorse / insight into their misjudgments and could learn from it.

Lucy must be very happy to hear gushing loyalty.

I mean, if Eirian can’t even see that overdosing a baby on morphine and giving the wrong baby antibiotics means Letby can’t even be a great nurse then there’s no hope for her.

thank duck she’s retired and no more babies will be put at risk under her management. Because of regardless of the benefit of hindsight, she couldn’t even consider competence an issue despite Letby’s previous serious errors.

I’m not surprised she’s still defending Letby though really. Because to accept Letby is a murderer would mean she has to accept she massively failed many, many babies.

Exactly this. The babies deaths are on her as well. But what a cow thank God she's no longer working
