You can't just send someone to prison for life if you aren't 100 percent they did it. This happens all the time if the prosecution isn't strong enough to secure a conviction.

Exactly. And that is why it isn't reasonable to expect that she will be struck off the NMC (plenty of negligent doctors and nurses aren't) or that she will just fade away or write a book. If she's NG, she's done nothing wrong and can live however she wants to - you can't pick and choose what happens to her. Just making the point that irrespective of whether the prosecution wins or loses, how would anyone here really feel about their babies being treated by her. And in that context, understanding whether her behaviour is just odd or criminal.

But....the jury have got to her find her guilty beyond all reasonable doubt. I think that is going to be the difficulty here, and the reason why she has chosen to run a trial rather than plead guilty at the earliest opportunity .

There are a LOT of countries where forged certificates are used. There are men on the sex register here who end up with teaching jobs in developing countries. Nurses with BS qualifications in Emirati countries. The medical sector isn't as regulated in many places because it isn't public sector. If your life is over in one country, it isn't unreasonable to expect you'd want to move, change your name and start a new life where no one knows you.

I find this so hard because my gut is that she's guilty but I agree with a lot of people who have said there hasn't been enough evidence so far to say yes 100% she's guilty.
All along I've been thinking "what would prompt someone to suddenly start killing babies?!" But after todays evidence I'm thinking she was OBSESSED with her work... wanted a bit more "interesting" things to happen at work, wanted some more drama and to be the one to save the day. I'm even thinking she didn't intend to kill originally. Maybe she'd been contemplating something for a while but couldn't bring herself to do anything, then that one day she got onto shift and thought right if I don't do it right now I'll chicken out again. Then it perhaps snowballed after the first event caused a death, she got a high from the attention etc and carried on??
Obviously all speculation but I'm so interested to see what everyone else's opinion is on how/why she started??

Im not suggesting the BA case was more 'clear cut' as it were.
Im just saying that the jurors have to be certain the defendant is guilty based on the evidence presented to them.
She could have just switched to somewhere fast paced like A&E?
No not unreasonable to want to elope - bit far fetched to think she’ll change her name, create a fake passport and birth certificate in said name for ID when applying for these jobs, create fraudulent nursing qualification documents, and move to a developing country where there is poor regulation of medical professionals. Seems far fetched in my opinion.
This case is huge so if she is found not guilty and released, wherever she moves to there’s bound to be reporters who would seek to find out where she has moved to as it would sell papers. Surely she could get a different job in a new country and use her own identity and keep a low profile. If she isn’t guilty I’m sure she’d be that traumatised from everything that she wouldn’t want to return to nursing.
