I would be so mortified if my dad turned up to defend me at work. Admittedly, he's been dead for 25 years, which would make it even harder to explain... 😂
Mine's dead too but if it had been him, he'd have rocked up and said "Aye, she's a right twit fire her" just for people and giggles 😂 😂 😂

My god the strength of these parents is something else. Being the ultimate advocates for their babies after everything they have been put through.

Why is the news still saying "nurse"? Is she not struck off yet? Should be "ex-nurse" surely.

It isn’t a person. It’s a mass of skin bone and organs. A person feels, cares, loves, shows empathy and kindness
It is just a devil roaming earth

A statement from the mother of Child I is read out by Mr Astbury.
The mother recalls the first collapse of Child I made her "paranoid", and she was told the cause of it was an infection. She said she took extra precautions as nothing was worth the risk of this happening again.
She said the parents had a rota to be with Child I, which was "exhausting". At the second collapse, she had 'begun to relax' as Child I had been improving. The mother said within half an hour of visiting a friend, she got a call to go to the hospital asap.
When she arrived, she was on her own, it was "so scary" having to watch "our tiny girl fighting so hard".
"We kept thinking, why is this still happening?"
The collapses were "getting worse".
Before the third collapse, Child I was 'like a full-term baby' - a "very content little girl", and talked about bringing her home.
At the third collapse, the family were in 'fight or flight' mode. Child I had been unresponsive.
Child I 'suddenly picked up' after being transferred to Arrowe Park. She looked swollen, in a lot of pain, and her eyes looked very sad. She was transferred back to the Countess of Chester Hospital.
The family were told Child I could still be home for Christmas.
The mother said she was informed about another collapse for Child I. She felt uneasy, and went to the hospital. When she arrived, this was 'different', as Child I was not fighting.
"I couldn't look at the monitors as I knew she was worse than the previous times."
"I can't even begin to explain the pain when we lost her - our gorgeous little princess."
The mother said she would wear sunglasses to hide her tears from others in the months afterwards, and felt like she was "sinking into a black hole".
The father "really struggled" in the aftermath, and the impact was felt across other members of the family.
When the police contacted about the investigation, the mother said she thought it was about possible hospital mistakes. Upon being asked to relive the events, this had a big impact on her, and she started therapy for PTSD. She remebered her "whole body shaking" on the news Letby was arrested.
"We dug for years, trying to get answers for what happened...it's impacted so much of our family. To be told what happened to our daughter...I don't think I'll ever get over the fact our daughter was tortured until she had no fight left."
"[Child I] should be eight this year."

Nope, NMC can only strike off once convictions are complete. But they've said they're now moving towards striking off

Thank you for making me laugh over the tears! I do this too 🩷

“ so do you look more like your dad?”
“ I hope not, he’s been dead 6 years”

BM. You are forgiven. For everything.

You are quite right, there is absolutely nothing to add. I wonder how much he enjoyed saying these words after the difficult job of defending her.
It must be very difficult to defend somebody like that. Of course he would have to appear neutral but I’m sure he knew she was guilty and feels some relief that she has been fairly sentenced and didn’t get away with it.

I think it's for the best she doesn't think she's done anything wrong so she would make it all about her and her parents. Best the reporting restrictions apply individually to her, this isn't the last you have heard from her so it's better she doesn't get anymore publicity. BM knows she did it that's why he hasn't fought hard, many legal vultures will be circling (seen one on talktv) who want the challenge and publicity including expert witnesses the more publicised she is the more people will see. Its in worldwide news now lock her up and don't speak of her again.
It's about the babies not that bleep.
Yes she and her twatty parents won’t be able to make it all about them with histrionics. It’s about those babies and their parents today, getting a tiny slither of the justice they deserve.

I feel for the BBC News reporter - what a day for workmen to create all that racket.

A very long time lurker here, think I may have posted a couple of times in the past but found it hard to participate as I have personal experience of child loss.

So, I'm watching Sky News, and listening to the impact statements, and I can empathise so much with how those parents are feeling because my own stillborn baby lost her life to catastrophic errors by the NHS, those errors took years to come to light, I was lied to and told things to make me think I was crazy before they admitted to *some* of those errors. Other organisations were uncovered in wrongdoing towards stillborn and infant death, and the lot of it basically consumed years of my life, fighting to ensure it never happened to any future parents. I remember the exact January day it began, making my other half dinner, a TV interview on local news in the background with a parent who'd lost their baby, which caught my attention. I instantly realised my own baby had been affected by the issue this parent was discussing, and it spiraled from there as it led to the cause of my daughter's death being uncovered.

Again, I'm sorry I can't explain further but I don't want to doxx myself as I've done a lot of human rights work on what happened in my particular case so can't give too much detail, but I've had to give evidence to the government about which is similar to an impact statement, just in a different setting. It's incredibly difficult and I applaud each and every parent who has given a statement, whether that be in person via video link, or had their legal team do it on their behalf. Just having to write down what something like this does to you is horrific. You live it every day, but seeing it written down, and hearing it, or reading it to others... in my case it almost felt surreal that all of this could happen to a tiny baby, to a parent, and how is it possible a human could exist with that level of pain. And it's the same when I've been reading the evidence from the parents, whilst we only hear small parts relating to what happened at the hospital it's everything else in life, every second of every day, trying to come to terms with what happened, and finding a new way to live, because you can never go back to being the person you were. I despise LL. But the parents? I have no words which can accurately describe the level of regard I hold them in. I'm not surprised she's not in court, but this need to change. She doesn't deserve the right to hide from the parents. She doesn't deserve to avoid sentencing in person. She deserves nothing but to rot in prison every minute of every day for which I hope is a very long life. Because even if it were 50 more years, it wouldn't compare to a second of those parents lives.
