This can, in part, be explained by the trust down grading its neonatal unit so it stopped taking the most high risk babies - I believe no more than 5 weeks premature. It’s my understanding that this status hasn’t changed since it all happened. Before that, the unit typically had 1-2 fatalities a year - it still shows a marked increase in the time Lucy was actively causing harm but it’s also an example of distorted media reporting by oversimplification.

Happy to be corrected as I'm fairly clueless and I've seen conflicting info - most websites seem to say that Level 1 takes 32 weeks + ? Which would be up to 8 weeks prem, I think?

In which case, even after downgrading from Level 2 to Level 1, lots of the victims would have still been treated at the unit. I'm Googling them, and so far most are under 8 weeks premature

I think she could fit into the category of a covert narcissist - when she kept saying in texts "it's not about me" clearly means she thinks it is all about her and wants to come across as selfless when she was anything but.

I bet she couldn't face her parents in the dock when the guilty verdicts were coming in and that's why she won't come out. The amount of shame she must feel that she has been caught out and her true self revealed to everyone. She loved being seen as the victim who was "unfortunate" to be on duty each time something happened, so being exposed as the perpetrator and not the victim would make her feel shame, not the actual acts themselves which she won't feel a shred of guilt for.

I feel so sorry for his wife. Imagine finding out your Husband has been having an affair, then finding out it was with a baby murderer and that he's been coming back to you and your family every day. You'd be absolutely sick.

If that's true, maybe she shouldn't be there for the victim impact statements. Still should be there to hear the words "whole of life" from the judge though.

Yeah Ironically I think she'd enjoy hearing the statements about the devastation and pain she's caused. The only reason she won't attend imo is that she won''t be able to bear hearing the judge lay into her and then sentence her for a WLO - the fact that she won't have any control.

The victims didn’t die because of how premature they were though or “normal” risk factors for their level of vulnerability - as we know, they were targeted by Lucy and murdered. So, taking her out of the equation, it’s unlikely ANY of those poor babies would have died.

That doesn’tnegate that downgrading the unit to take less vulnerable babies would also reduce its death rate. Comparing morbidity for the years before Lucy’s killing with the years after is a more accurate way of looking at it. It’s still a massive drop from 1-2 a year to just 1 in 7 years of course. But i was just commenting on how facts can be distorted.

I may well have been wrong about it being 5 weeks where it’s 8 - I read a lot of reports yesterday and it was just one piece of info I skimmed.

Do you know what support the jury get afterwards? I cant imagine how they're feeling and hope they're not sent into the big wide world with nothing.

What a fantastic job you have. I bet you could tell a tale or two! I'm sure it's not always easy but I hope it's worthwhile.

Also I think it was @Tofino who said that prosecution barristers are super shaggers. Can you confirm or deny this?
