I've thought that could be her motive, to sabotage the babies under the care of the pretty popular nurses. MT, SE and AH all feature quite high on the chart that shows who was on duty every time a baby collapsed or died. I think AH was the designated nurse for 3 of the 4 charges relating to baby I which are over a 3-4 week period. Baby I was only attacked when AH was on shift. SE was referred to as the new girl despite her working on the unit for a couple of years.
I wonder if those 3 nurses completed their ICU training at the first attempt and LL didn't? It was reported in court that she completed it in 2015 but in the newspaper article with the babygrow photo from 2013 she says she was doing that training then. Maybe she was jealous of the other young nurses and targeted their babies to make them look bad 🤷‍♂️
Wow! This is very interesting.

Prosecution suggesting the ‘not so positive comments’ are actually about her colleagues getting suspicious rather than the who goes in room 1 arguments.
I don't understaaaaaand. Hadn't people directly said things like 'you're on a bad run' to her at this point? They clearly HAD noticed a pattern?

It's possible I'm just mixed up. But I would have thought you answer yes to this anyway? Surely you want to encourage the idea that people were unfairly scapegoating her and spreading rumours, it's part of the defence....

Yeeeees - but I can understand that. I can see how the events of 15/16 seem like another world (blimey, it was, David Cameron, brexit, no pandemic, the Paris attacks, David Bowie and terry Wogan and Prince dying …

Whereas the events happening to her are now,’if that makes sense? I’m not saying that means she’s innocent, just that personally I don’t think that’s necessarily meaningful or significant. I had two friends pass away 2016, and honestly it feels like light years ago.

Time is so strange isn’t it?
Time isn't strange in the slightest.

The fucker in the dock is strange.

Crying and amateur dramatics when she hears the voice of a man she used to text. Crying over her beige bedroom with the crappy bedspread and wallart. Yet barely any emotion when hearing about the deaths of these babies, the ones she's on trial for? The ones she cared so much about that she just had to search social media because she was thinking about them. Regularly.

For anyone who has ever asked “ but why would she do this ? “ the evidence this afternoon just answers the question in my book.
She’s a psychopath.
Agree 💯. There is no way otherwise she could have dehumanised those poor tiny vulnerable newborns enough to torture them otherwise. She seems so devoid of emotion, empathy, all the normal human characteristics that would prevent a normal human with normal emotions from inflicting that agony on innocents and their parents. But sadly I don't think there is a way of identifying and weeding out potential Lucy's from entering nursing in the first place. AFAIK there is no test for 'do you have psychopathic tendencies. Hopefully once she is found guilty, measures will be put in place to prevent anyone being able to harm so many people in such a short period of time, but I guess people must have thought that after Allitt and here we are again.

So many people I speak to about this case in work think she’s NG since she’s testified 😩 they think it’s a stitch up by seniors because units were understaffed! I’ve followed from the beginning & never wavered from thinking she’s guilty so the fact that she seems to be appearing innocent to so many terrifies me! I don’t think the prosecution are challenging her enough, they’re not pointing out that’s she’s consistently lied & changed her story & it’s infuriating, I really think there’s too much reasonable doubt because of this & she’s going to get away with mass murder 😭

I have a horrible feeling she might get off with this. You have to remember that most people are very stupid and struggle with critical thinking.

I think we have to just presume these people aren’t actually following it closely.

If you’ve not followed it closely and you’re just listening to someone say “no” then sure it would come across that way. Are they analysing what it would take to fit somebody for this? Really? Who do your friends believe poisoned the babies? I find it quite incredible people think letby saying it didn’t happen can cause reasonable doubt. All defendants say it didn’t happen. But these people seem quite happy to accept babies full of air and insulin. How did all these babies die, why are they so similar? Sorry but just going, I believe the crying nurse isn’t really an in-depth look at the situation! Why would you fit someone for murder cos a unit is understaffed 🙈 every unit is understaffed at points. No understaffing till baby K. It’s utterly ridiculous, the staffing levels are not so different from the previous year that a baby dies or needs prolonged cpr every shift one nurse has in june 2015. Just after she’s qualified to access lines. And the babies are full of air.
Unless, like the jury, you have followed the case from start to finish, it would be hard to see just how much she’s lying. Honestly I am so supremely confident she’s done for. I have the fizz waiting.

Does anyone else think that at this point BM is just letting her get on with it?

Either that or she's just totally ignoring any advice he's giving her.
He's seen all the evidence, he probably thinks that shes guilty but it's job to make the prosecution prove their case. He's surely advised her not to take the stand but if she's insisted he's probably thought duck it go hang yourself then.

I think she's happy to take the stand and throw anyone and everyone else under the bus and potentially ruin peoples careers and create more victims

He can probably justify to himself because if she doesn't get a proper defence it risks appeals and mis trial.

I think the way we react to things often isn’t necessarily logical or the way we should be ‘expected’ to react. That’s one reason I tend to be wary about making judgements about how people feel based on just outward appearances.

I am trying to think how I would react if this was me and I honestly consider myself a very compassionate person, but if I ask myself honestly would I cry about children who passed away seven years ago the answer would probably be no. I would probably have been upset at the time, would feel really awful for the parents and the tragedy of them not growing and thriving would resonate with me, but would I cry, I don’t think I would.

If I was there in court and I had been accused of this terrible crime and the people I worked with and respected me now believed I was capable of this crime and looked at me with loathing and disgust, the public detest me, my parents are in a state of collapse, I sleep in a cell … then I see my ‘old’ life, I probably would cry.

The thing is I know especially at this stage it is a massive if but if she is wrongly accused she is every much a victim too.

I'm intrigued to hear BNEs closing statement in this. I'm almost certain he will point out exactly how many different people she has blamed for each incident. The jury may not pick up on it all at the time given how much they hear and have to take it. However, it will stand out if BNE can say she had pretty much blamed someone else in all 22 cases, yet she was the only one present for all of them.

It's his job to ensure she gets a fair trial, regardless of a) whether she did it or not and b) his own personal views on the matter. I don't think he has anything up his sleeve that can help her so just handed her the proverbial shovel and left her to it.
He must wonder what is going to come out of her cake hole next 😳😂

can’t wait to hear all about it, thank you for your service to us! 🥰, I really appreciate it and you are brilliant at describing the tone of the room! a

I’m in Ireland and was seriously considering flying over for a day in court, but, I decided against it as it would be just my luck that the wagon would have a tantrum and court wouldn’t be sitting the day I got there.

Yeah I saw someone on Twitter reply to a tweet about Letby saying ‘is that the nurse accused of killing babies’ and the reply was yes, then she went on to say ‘yeah I think she’s a scapegoat’

Ok, so a few mins ago you had to double check the name of the defendant but you are convinced she’s a scapegoat. Tell me you haven’t followed the case closely without telling me you haven’t followed the case closely.
