So I mentioned a few times here I was pregnant, not due for another few weeks but I had baby a few days ago at 33 weeks. Currently in special care.
Just wanted to say it has taken on a new level of horror for me in my current situation. I was listening to the special care nurse yesterday describe my daughters care and I was all too familiar with the terminology and procedures they were using thanks to following this trial.
I was struck by the helplessness these parents must have felt unable to be with their babies too. Daddy at work and mummy trapped on a different floor recovering from an emergency c section. Not getting to hold them, smell them, watch them sleep and then having to trust strangers to care for them in your absence.
My baby is 33 weeks, 5lbs (was, I say she is less now), plump little typical 33 week premi. She has issues (breathing, a bit of cpr when born) but she is being looked after and all going well she will be home with me in just over 2 weeks.
I'm stuck in my room away from her and all I can think is, would she have been Letby's perfect target? She robbed these parents of so much. It's just so fucked up.

Surely it can't be anything less than a whole life sentence.
She abused her power of trust
She targeted the most vulnerable
There was more than one victim
They were sustained attacks over a long period of time.
Those babies lived their short life in (inflicted) pain
She 'taunted' the parents when they were grieving.
She shows little sympathy for the parents. No remorse.

Edited to update timeline:
So on 27th June she gets a call to not come in on nights and only do day shifts.
6th July she gets forwarded an email from Dr NN (from Dr B asking for some details of baby collapses)
Sometime after that - email from head nurse saying there will be an external review, and everyone will be under clinical supervision starting with LL
Same day - LL says she's made a timeline of events OVER THE LAST YEAR.
How did she know they were looking at the entire year, and not a few weeks/months or a few years or few patients???? Can't imagine Dr B or the head nurse knew the timeframe/timeline under review yet either and wouldn't have communicated it to everyone anyway.

Also she made a timeline in July 2016 - a grievance procedure sometime in 2016/2017 - yet in 2018 can't remember anything the police ask her about these cases. Riiiiiiiight.

Oh my god. So surely Dr Noname should have faced some sort of disciplinary for this?!

I really wanted to for myself. Just to see and understand the scope and technicality of it all. They didn't say why they finished early. Not sure if it was because TCs sentencing was starting then or if was just coincidence. We asked about going in there but the gallery was closed to family only.
You can see her but not all that well. It's only one camera that doesn't really move around much or zoom in, so she's just kind of a figure in the top corner.
I think it's probably helpful for the jury that they get the visual evidence like the obs sheets as well, but there was so much of it.
It was clear that for LLs other baby obs etc were done at 8.30am and then at 10am when the other nurse took over.
Doctors Evans and Bohin were in the satellite room with us watching and making lots of notes. Dewi was proper scanning the room and kept looking at me. Felt like he could see into my soul
without undermining the experience you had, there is a use for phones at work - I have nice guidelines, a BNF app and a local antibiotic prescribing app as well as access to many other guidelines for clinical care. I know nurses can often use the calculator on the phone to work out complicated drug calculations as they prepare them. I don’t doubt you had people around you using their phone socially/inappropriately but the lack of computers in hospital has pushed medics especially towards apps to support the steps of clinical care.
I’m sorry you had a poor experience. The majority of clinical staff are just about treading water to provide the care they can.

Even weirder is the fact she made a timeline of the events. How did she know what events/babies and what timeline they were referring to.
Also if she did make a timeline she would know it looked bad. Yet, she doesn't seem "overwhelmed with worry" if she's more concerned that "they" will look silly. Her reaction is not at all normal for someone who is being suspected of causing deteriorations and under investigation - she seems cocky!!

Still super interesting though. Bloody hell that Jury have to listen to so much info!
I can understand why the live reporting was as it was earlier in the day. Lots of it was the notes and obs being relayed by the nurses who completed them and lots of questioning to try to drill down into finer details (I'm still no clearer as to exactly how much mucas constitutes '+++' being written, despite a lot of questions about it). Absolutely fascinating though.
FYI no dairylea dunkers allowed in the courtroom.
