BM tried to do this with Dr Evans the expert witness in this case, he brought up a previous unconnected incident where his work was criticised. It mightn’t be held against them in the sense of having personal consequences, but can be used to damage their credibility as an expert in future cases.

Waney Squier who used to be an expert witness in for the prosecution in shaken baby cases is an interesting example of what you’re asking. Absolutely reputations can be damaged if evidence is given that turns out to be misguided or untrue. She was charged with providing misleading information to the court, and was initially struck off the medical register (though later reinstated when a further hearing ruled she had committed misconduct, but not been intentionally dishonest in her evidence.) She was banned from being a medical expert for three years. She has since changed her view about shaken baby syndrome and no longer believes it exists
Roy Meadow is another example, he was an expert witness involved involved in wrongly convicting several women of murdering their babies. Really awful cases. Interestingly he gave evidence in Beverley Allitts trial too, but it’s the stuff about sudden infant death where he gave really bogus statistical evidence that ruined many lives and his reputation. He was found guilty of professional misconduct too, and also struck off but reinstated on appeal. Awful man
