This is awful. Just horrible. I have no words. At the very least she should have listened to concerns and done an investigation. People don’t go around accusing other staff of murder for no reason.
I bet Karen Rees never thought her name would be dragged into any of this. A few days after Dr Brearey telephoned KR, Letby was removed from NICU after discussions with other high ranking people but not before Letby had caused further harm, therefore KR probably thought she had managed to disappear under the radar but well done Dr Brearey for naming and shaming her in court yesterday. He also said when he phoned her she was aware of the concerns which had been raised previously which should have been an even bigger trigger for immediate action.I can't get my head around how blithely the execs dismissed the concerns of senior, very experienced medical staff with evidence that babies were in danger. At the very least, even if you didn't believe the accusation, you'd look into it from a bullying standpoint as it's such a wild accusation to make.
She's definitely fudged her LinkedIn timeline to disguise her involvement, so is obviously aware of her culpability. Though not enough to realise she isn't cut out for such high level (and high paying!) roles, judging by her continued career. Same as that other exec. If that was me, I'd have felt too guilty and responsible to keep chasing such influential jobs...the lack of introspection and self awareness of these higher ups is disgusting. All these dead babies, destroyed families and traumatised staff left in the wake of their catastrophic decisions...and they just skip happily on to their next big bucks leadership roles. I know they aren't the killers, but they were the enablers. Vile, and horrifying.
No mention of Countess of Chester I wonder why that is.Karen's Linkedin profile. Now shes the professional on employees wellbeing ...![]()

No mention of Countess of Chester I wonder why that is.
Yesterday BM questioned why Dr Brearey had not gone to the police (almost a criticism by BM). Dr Brearey explained that he wanted to escalate the concerns to hospital bosses first. It makes you wonder had Dr Brearey gone directly to the police whether the police would have actually done anything immediately. Look at the case of Wayne Cousins he had been reported to the police for indecent acts but the police took no action and he went on to murder. Reports about Shipman weren't immediately believed too. Allitt was another. Dr Brearey and Dr Jayaram should be commended for their efforts and not pulled apart by BM.Doctors totally let down by the senior management and particularly Karen Rees.
Some further bits in the Mail article:
'We wanted the support of the medical director and the executives of the hospital. We were acting on facts, not beliefs. We were trying to escalate appropriately with the facts we had at the time'.
He added: 'I've not been to the police over neonatal deaths and I don't think any other neonatal lead has. I needed executive support. I was doing as much as I could'.
Dr Brearey said of Ms Rees' refusal to bar Letby from duty on the unit despite her association with the collapses: 'She believed that Nurse Letby could not have done that'.
He went on to elaborate on some of his discussion with the executive, saying: 'I had a conversation suggesting she (Letby) should have the weekend off.
'Karen Rees gave me the impression that she didn't agree and didn't think it was a reasonable request'.
He recalled Letby later walking past him, appearing 'happy and upbeat'.
'She looked me in the eye very confidently'
I could be wrong but at this stage I think this is what her grievance is, if it was anything else then surely we would have at least had a hint of it by now. I can really picture her being furious about admin and raising a complaint. Even though she’s been put on admin to stop her murdering anymore babies. The fact she still showed up to work everyday for what, at least a year+? Shows how removed from reality she isI'm interested to see how she was put on admin duties and what her reactions were to this.
100% this, murders two babies within 24 hours and attempts another the next day, then the next minute she’s all happy and smiling. I don’t think she even had an inkling that SB was onto her from the way she was confidently smiling away at him just the very next dayI keep thinking of what the doctor said last week, about how she passed him in the corridor, happy and confidently smiling. It's haunting.
This is why I think she’s an attention seeking psychopath who honestly thought she was unstoppable, and going by how some think she’s innocent I can see how she thought she’d get away with it by committing “the perfect crimes”It’s utter madness …. How on earth did she think she would get away with this ?
I think it makes perfect sense now why the prosecution included texts early on with all the sympathy from colleagues and her txts with explanations on how the babies died. And the fate text. And the salsa and betting texts and basically all the texts that were all me me me. It’s establishing a very clear pattern that is even clearer now that Noname is involved, the sympathy she craved with the early babies is now evident with Noname. And also as you said she has a god/saviour complex, it all suddenly has clicked and made sense. I think Nick is going to make an excellent closing argument where he will tie it all together and show us exactly what he’s been building up to the whole way through. I think the media attention is going to really pick up after Easter too. It actually came up on my Snapchat stories for the first time tonight and my teenage daughter also has recently seen/heard it for the first time too. LL is the worst female serial killer and is going to be notorious, and the Netflix series will be out before the end of the yearOh god....I've been unsure and on the fence all the way up til now, there is something v sinister about her interactions with the DR, I think it was a ploy to show off to him, to show what a competent nurse she was while "saving" them, sadly she diced with death and death won, god knows how many other attempts there has been. 100% an attention seeking ploy and saviour complex, will be interested to see the poll results in next thread off the back of today.
As if all that wasn’t enough, she goes back to work the next day and tries to kill baby Q…Just sitting here processing everything I’ve heard so far about O&P (and obvs there’s going to be way more we haven’t heard about). This is nuts when you think about it, she’s away on hols whilst on hols Noname tells her about the triplets, the minute she’s back she kills one within just a few hours of starting her shift. Bleeps Noname back herself to NNU after she makes her first attempt on O’s (the stronger ones) life, Noname then leaves to update parents and she goes for him the second time, and bleeps Noname back again herself. Then exchanges messages about O with colleagues and Noname most of the evening/night after killing O. Comes back in the next day, kills P (pricking herself in finger on the final resuscitation attempt). Goes to a&e where Noname makes sure she’s seen quickly, and she tells him how everyone knew what had happened and was talking about itMessages Noname the rest of the night after he takes her home after a&e. Throws in a few dramatic performances in the hospital were she’s bawling her eyes out and as upset as the parents, dresses both O and P after she’s killed them both, within 24hrs of each other and 24hours of being back to work after two weeks off (two incident free weeks), and then photographs and wheels them into the parents
forever tainting the parents last memories. Txts Noname saying about how the two deceased (by her hand) babies looked together in the cot. Throws in a weird txt about the parent’s age. Makes up some explanations of what may have caused their sudden deaths which she txts to colleagues. Won’t take the weekend off as suggested by consultant (especially after her dramatic floods of tears performance). Goes back to the work the next day (sat) and is all happy go lucky the very next day. I mean this sounds like some made up horror plot. She’s an absolute monster and this shows her for exactly the torturous psychopath she is

Famous last words or what. I take full responsibility. I know only Letby alone is to blame. Nobody could have thought she was capable. But safeguarding means thinking the worst is possible. They were told. This doctor must have been beside himself to call. He looks like a nice man, dedicatedThis is absolutely heartbreaking for so many reasonsI want to string some of these senior execs up myself I’m so angry, I can’t imagine how the families must feel. I know ultimately it’s Lucy responsible but the hospital seriously lacked any safeguarding and duty of care to these babies. They could have prevented Lucy from doing this but they turned a blind eye.
I hope the exec is happy to take responsibility now. Wonder if they already resigned.
Those poor parents of Baby O, P and Q. All three of their triplets should be running around their house and they sadly only have one. I cannot believe the consultants weren't taken seriously. Just awful.Todays evidence from doctor B!!! Expressed concerns after baby O and requested that letby shouldn’t be allowed back until child O’s death had been properly investigated!! He was refused wtf. And then she strikes again. Evil evil evil. I think she knew they were closing in on her which is why she ramped up her attacks![]()
If I went on a break and saw her sitting in the staff room on her own I'd go and sit in my carFace not fitting? Aren’t most of the pictures of her on nights out with the staff from the hospital? Every single person she’s texting is a colleague?
Boo hoo, it’s a job not a social club, you don’t go to work to make friends you go to do your fucking job and if you happen to make friendships it’s a bonus.
I wonder what she’d have done if hadn’t become a nurse!I think a serial killer will always find a way somewhere. I think she would have done a Cullen (USA) and moved between numerous hospitals throughout the country over several years had she not have been caught. But the numbers she went through already in one unit shouldn’t have gone as far - it didn’t go unnoticed though as the doctors noticed. Management who didn’t act (I’m looking at you Karen Rees) enabled harm to babies to continue longer.
Its a strong witness account. He's not held back from telling court, the exact person who he spoke to regarding his concerns and that it was shrugged off. That doesn't put the CoCH in a good light.Todays evidence from doctor B!!!
