I wonder did she search parents of other children that didn’t have any issues . I find it strange she even searched the families especially after each episode and then look at previous families two minutes later . Was she worrying that the parents was suspecting her so she went back to look at child E parents to see if they had said anything . She could have been paranoid and that’s why she was Stalking them
I was wondering this. I mean, it's all so weird :(

Strange how baby F was fine when moved to a different hospital but went down rapidly again when returning .

I do find what she was looking for hard to understand as Facebook isn’t easy to see information on people you are not friends with unless things people post are public which is quite rare beyond photos

IF she was guilty that would be the case. Baffled why people aren't waiting for more evidence to determine guilt
Why do you act like every person that feels she’s guilty is on the jury 😵💫 we’re discussing it on a forum. Equally, your points seem determined to prove innocence. We haven’t heard the defence evidence yet so I am not sure why you’d feel so keen to keep suggesting she is. Why don’t you scroll past people that are finding the evidence damning if you yourself aren’t?

I think some of the evidence presented today is a bit sketchy to say the least. If we as lay people can pull some of it apart the defence are going to have a field day. As said above, it might be a case of even if she is guilty, they can’t prove that beyond reasonable doubt element. I’m very much in the undecided camp at the moment.

I have no medical expertise as you will be able to tell from the way I word this so please accept my premature apology. I'm sorry.

Is there a way to tell when a baby has digested what they've been given in one of those bags in order to know when the stomach is empty?

Thank you.

Really nice to see comments that are engaged and thoughtful. Social media is full of "let her rot" etc, and, though I know this is a highly emotive case, it achieves nothing apart from to make me despair.

I watch with interest as more details are given.

Those poor babies and their families.

What I will say is that in only two days the level of respect I have for HCP has multiplied. Thanks to you all.

This may come out when the defence have their say. If she'd also been looking up the profiles of families whose babies had recovered and gone home, then it could be presented as she has a curiosity, continues to wonder about those she has looked after, and in context, the looking up of the parents doesn't look quite so odd.

Mr Johnson: "The practice of the nurses on the NNU was to use the NGT to check whether an infant had an empty stomach before feeding. That was done in Child G’s case – nothing came up which means there was nothing in her stomach.

"She was then fed and her designated nurse went on a break. 15 minutes later Child G produced projectile vomits of such force that they left the cot and landed on the floor and nearby chair.
Again, all 3 of my children have had reflux so powerful it's projectiled across the room.
That statement can be picked apart.
It could be over feeding. It could be reflux. At the moment it's purely circumstantial.

When my baby had a feeding tube the nurses used to pull a small amount up in the syringe before feeding. I asked why they did this and they said it was to check it was stomach acids and the tube wasn’t sitting in the lungs or something. From what I’ve seen in hospital, especially on neonatal and maternity, everything is checked and double checked. I’m sure others may have had different experiences but it’s hard to see how that many failings could simply be human error.

As someone mentioned earlier it only takes one guilty charge and she’s never getting out they are probably using every charge even if the evidence is suspect to build up a picture and hope she is nailed on one of the ones they do have the most evidence for.

Getting all this information thrown quickly at the jury is a lot to take in, I’ve been in this position but they will have plenty of time to analyse every single detail and from being on a jury if you are certain they done it but evidence is sketchy on some of the charges then you pretty much have to say not guilty even if you believe they done it

My son was a preemie in 2015 and thank god it was before all this because it would have really messed my head up seeing this info whilst he was in the care of nurses.

Just as a quick heads up to explain a difference in terminology.

NG - Nasogastric Tube. This is where liquid feed is delivered to the stomach through a tube which sits in the nose.

TPN - Total Parenteral Nutrition. This is where a solution of nutrients is delivered via a cannula or line, intravenously, directly to the bloodstream.

It's quite a crucial difference and would change the significance of facts depending on how nutrition was being delivered.

I could be wrong but it’s my understanding that they’re pointing out that in terms of measurements it would be highly unlikely that the full amount of 45mls were able to be aspirated (her stomach was empty when fed) and then so much extra fluid could have been vomited so forcefully. So there is too much milk there to be explained not just that the baby was sick. At this point, the baby had been doing really well unless she was in Letby’s care or vicinity. I think also the bleeding occurring in the trachea of lots of these cases is really crucial..

This has absolutely broken me.

Baby G was born at a different hospital and later transferred to @TheCountessNHS. Court hears that she was doing well. She'd been at Chester for 3 weeks when she turned 100 days old. The nurses hung a banner, and made a cake.

Thanks @ieughi3qkt34. That's very helpful. I'm going to do a bit of reading about both.

Cases like this serve to humble me with regards to the absolute stream of knowledge HCP possess.

Some sort of deranged obsession over these families seems apparent
To me it screams guilt and looking to see what they could be discussing on fb. Some form of seeing if there were any suspicions being raised.

Have we been told whether she also looked up families of children she never cared for? because if it’s only the children she’s facing charges for it’s ever more damning. ETA… just seen others have said the same in the last couple of pages.

We haven't really had any evidence presented today though. This is still the opening statement detailing why the prosecution think the jury must find her guilty, based on what they are going to present in the coming months. They are giving minimal details and timelines of each death just to say this is what we intend to use to show she is guilty. The defence will have their opening statement too, saying how they intend to counter it.

This is confusing me. Operation Hummingbird has cost millions and this job advert makes me wonder if theres more to come out. I did wonder if she was part of a 'cult' or 'ring' with other nurses worldwide but that might sound a bit far fetched and I'm overthinking this job advert.
Sorry I’ve obviously missed it but what is the job advert and how does it relate to LL?

If she is guilty how could she have lived with herself?? I'm just at a loss.
The juxtaposition of the innocence of those little, delicate babies next to the evil and atrocious acts that's she accused of is beyond comprehension 😔

I know you can’t judge people purely on body language but has there been any reporting on how Letby is reacting to the prosecutions statement so far? If I was innocent and had to sit and listen to the suffering of those tiny babies I would be distraught.
