I’m just catching up with the live reporting and I’m behind on the thread but she sounds almost avoidant when asked if she will be back to work for Baby As debrief saying “She will be looking to get back in time for that.”

It’s also concerning that she says work is too quiet. Isn’t that the ideal situation on a neonatal ward? You would think quiet was good as it meant happy stable babies.

I said not long ago after child D things will start looking worst and it’s already started .
child E was doing well he was being moved near home so that in itself is an amazing sign and they absoluwoukd not allow that if they thought he was poorly . Within two hours he died

just heartbreaking 💔

I'm starting to wonder if her parents can continue to go there everyday and not have their doubts.

Maybe a lot of what they're hearing is new to them, not what she's told them. What must they be thinking now! They must have doubts by now. I don't think I could continue every day, for 6 months, to listen to it all. Given it's not close to their home as well I wonder where they are staying.

Saying all this, I know serial killers families have often stood by them. Harold Shipman's wife believed he was innocent, although I believe when he was sentenced she started to have her doubts.
It’s difficult isn’t it. I’m not a parent, so I guess I wouldn’t really be able to comment, but I’ve heard from a few parents that they’ve found it hard to believe that their child could be capable and they’ve sided with their child as they’ve believed them.
Even after they’ve been found guilty or confessed, the parents have still loved them, which I guess is understandable.

It must be awful for her parents sitting there and realising what she’s done. And at her dad’s age as well.

How can you complain the NICU is too quiet?! Sorry that is an absolutely odd thing to say
When I and other nurses I work with hand over to the next shift that things are "quiet" we have meant that everything is ticking along as it should be, with no unusual events or major incidents. So on a MH ward, noone tried to self harm, batter anyone with a pool cue, noone needed restraining, and the Dr actually turned up and did all we needed them to do before sodding off for the day. It's still busy, it's just that it's comparatively quiet because the tit hasn't hit the fan.

And then anyone who uses the Q word gets a rap on the knuckles for tempting fate cos it's sods law that on the next shift, everything will go to tit!

Edit: that's in MH though so obviously I can't say for other specialisms.

And obviously anyone who COMPLAINS about it being quiet wants their head testing!

Today has been the most upsetting day so far from a personal perspective. That poor mother.

I know that LL barrister is doing his job but it's not a role I could stomach.

Edit: so a shift can be busy in terms of lots to do, but they all are. Quiet is when nothing unexpected has happened on top of that. In MH nursing anyway, at least where I have worked.
Yeah...the Q word always ends up sending things belly up....but, given the horrendous few shifts they had had and how it was affecting " her"...you would think she would be glad of a peaceful "Q" shift? 🤷‍♀️😢

If LL was one of my own children, I would push all doubts away, convinced there was some another explanation.

And no, I'm not a doting mother who thinks her children are perfect! But I would struggle to believe that my own child was so evil. No matter what evidence was in front of me I'm pretty sure I'd be in denial.

Of course we don't yet know LL's back story and whether she ever displayed any unusual and worrying behaviour in the past. Even so, to accept that your own child is a serial killer would be extremely difficult for most loving parents.

It’s so sad because on many occasions they babies were due to be delivered at other hospitals or moving them was considered. They parents will have to live with that ‘what if they had never went to the Countess’ thought.
An ‘element of fate’. She’s a bleep.

I worked on adult wards but when I used the Q word it was because everybody was asleep lol
however in a neonate ward you want it to be Q and relaxing and it’s a good sign everything’s going well

such a wierd thing for her to text .

I thought the fact she is off, says she’ll conveniently be back in time for debrief with A, then just 4 days later after said debrief allegedly kills E can’t just be coincidence. No suspicious deaths while she’s off can’t be coincidence, and then did the debrief on A trigger her/set her off to kill again. Chilling even typing that out tbh

Agree. My daughter knows I will love her no matter what she ever does. She once asked "what if I killed someone mummy" (she's only young so it was just her thinking of the worst thing she could). I told her I would help her to get the best defence we could, but that unless it was in self defence, I would never ever support her actions, and would think she needed to be in prison, because actions have consequences.

Luckily, I don't think she's particularly murderous since the most she has ever done is laughed when a kid who was horrible to her fell over after being mean to her.

So yeah, I will love her regardless but by god I would want her to face consequences if she was LL.

New to these threads and just caught up.
Today's reporting is harrowing. It sounds like she was stood in the room waiting for E to die when mum walked in.

Could someone point me in the direction of the texts exchanged with her colleagues please?

No way were her colleagues not talking about her behind her back.
They must have been!
I honestly wonder what JJK must have thought when she received such a bizarre text.

Sorry if it’s been answered - In the UK, does someone have to plead not guilty in order to have a jury trial? I don’t know a great deal about the UK judicial system.

Seems so odd if that’s the case because then her lawyers have advised her to plead not guilty, which means they think she isn’t guilty… surely a better option would have been to enter a plea deal and admit guilt & remorse??
I don’t know if there are such things as ‘plea deals’, not in the American sense anyway.
No ‘plea deal’ would get her anything less than a whole life term, I hope anyway.

Lucy isn’t just stating that it’s a quiet shift. The issue with Lucy is she is saying that it’s ‘too quiet’ as if it’s too boring or slow for her. Her colleague even replies telling her not to complain so she read it that way too. Which given her recent ‘bad run’ that upset her so much is just bizarre and very suspicious.

A message sent from nursing colleague Jennifer Jones-Key to Lucy Letby at 10.34pm on August 2 says: "Hope work ok".

Letby replies: "...yeah it's fine, bit too Q word really."

The reply: "Don't complain as Wed and Thurs horrible lol! It will pick up again."

Definitely you find in this job many are nice to your face but talk behind your back your all mainly women the odd man on the shift but mainly women and Trust me it’s a lot of witching goes on . They absolutely would have been talking about her especially after so many babies collapsing on her shift . Say I worked full time and had no collapses and seen my work colleague having multiple babies collapse some die on her I would definitely think something weird was happening

I’m intrigued to see if any staff give evidence or say they thought something was happening . Seems a lot was being covered up like why didn’t baby E have a PM

As a mum I would be there everyday to hear for myself what they were being accused of but it doesn’t mean I would stand by them. It’s quite possible I would have stopped contact at this point in all honesty but we don’t know if she is calling them each evening sobbing and distressed at what has been said about her.

You know you child better than anyone.. I think you would just know if they had done it. I can’t really explain it.

And doesn’t that sit at odds with her not helping baby E. So it’s quiet and she’s complaining and then there her (sick) prayers have been answered, she has this baby clearly in distress and bleeding and she’s taking none of that busy action you would expect.
Yet more contradictions between what LL says and then actually does. There are just discrepancies everywhere LL goes, oh and ofc coincidences. Was also just thinking there, that during this trial we must be hearing from what at least 20+ people that worked at the hospital, about just over 10 sets of parents, at least 6 independent medical experts, and probably at least a couple of police officers. What’s the chances that all these people happen to be wrong about everything and one, yes just one person (LL) is right. I mean just based sheerly on the number of people versus 1 is crazy when you think about it. How could all these people conspire or be wrong. Isn’t it much easier to believe that LL is a lying murderer and most of these people are right about what they’ve seen/heard/found. I’m probably explaining this badly but I just don’t know how we are meant to believe the number of people involved in this trial are all wrong, rather than one potential murderer that’s been shown to lie and has many examples of sinister behaviour, never mind everything else
