he is only 1 but last time we did a moon pig one that is up on the board. I never know if I will offend getting them food gifts🤣🫣x
Could you make a little card with his handprint or something? I know these are a bit cheesy but they would make their day if you have the time.
Nah food gifts are life, we don't get them much as mental health nurses but when we do you'd think we'd never ate before.

There was one fella on one of the Facebook groups, said he often spoke to her whilst she was in prison.
He was a weird fella though, apparently he'd been invited to the trial by Lucy personally but her solicitors recommended against it.
By all accounts he said she was a wonderful friend
If she's found guilty there's no doubt she'll attract a weird sort of fan club

Also I will say again...I wouldn't usually rip into someone's dress sense unless they had done something to really irk me...and given I'm in the firm guilty camp, what she's been accused of makes it clear she's not a nice fella! I will eat my words if it comes to light she didn't do any of it! Perhaps it's our light hearted way of dealing with the horror of the accusations!

Re: Lucy's personality I do remember right at the beginning when this was made public a boyfriend of her friend being quoted in the news as saying she was harmless and a bit geeky or awkward?
That's my fella's cousin. He's being harassed daily by the press and wishes he'd never said it!

I can’t find the post but yes, sometimes the beige people are the horrid ones, I was just musing on cliques and that whole “you can’t sit with us” attitude that is prevalent in a lot of workplaces, but seems to flourish in particular healthcare settings. I remember just thinking Jesus, it’s not year 9, an awful lot of the time.

Letby seems to have gone straight from school to her nursing degree, and I think that does create some weird people for whom it will ALWAYS be year 9.

I’m not a paragon by any means, and I too would put money on the fiat 500/Suzuki swift thing. I bet she likes Michael Buble too.

I just think “hive minds” are dangerous and I do wonder if the unit at COCH was a bit of a toxic place where it was easier for bad practice and wrong uns (not nice fellas?) to get on. LL may well have been a bit of a queen bee herself and blind eyes turned etc.
I completely agree. You've pretty much summed up my last nursing working place. Full of Queen Bees, but the men!! Ffs.. Honestly arrogant cowboys. My mistake was I used the cannula and tourniquet and saline that was left in resus in a kidney dish presuming it was for emergency use and it wasn't, it was for the sole emergency use of a bleep male nurse. He made my life a misery and they all joined in one by one.

Poor guy!

Her neighbours said she didn't seem like she'd hurt a fly but I disregard that because a) Unless you're really close with your neighbours what do they know b) It makes me think of the end of 'Psycho'.

Yes, a boyfriend of her friend ....but I could have phrased that as her friend's boyfriend if I was normal 🤣
I actually deleted my reply because I read it wrong 😂 sorry

While we are on a bit of a derail, I know there are many HCP on here who could answer. I have mentioned on here a few times my son has had a few ops and is looked after by the same nurses on the same ward every time. He is in for another next week and I would like to know what gifts, if any are appreciated and not just the same old tin of biscuits? No budget in mind, they really have went above and beyond and this trial has highlighted that even more for me
A card with a nice message, and if you get food, anything that’s easy to grab quickly - no big cakes that you have to cut or toffees that take ages to chew. Cupcakes and donuts are usually very popular or celebration/roses/heroes tubs - and a punnet of grapes for if there’s anyone on a diet lol.

Edit - if there’s anyone you’d like to thank in particular, name them in the card, even if it’s more than one person - they can take a picture of it and use it in their revalidation (if a nurse) and it’ll make their week.

Tbh do character references actually mean much? For example there are woman married to pweirdos for years with no idea and a lot say their husband would never do such a thing but they do.

It seems that most of the babies were being administered things like saline and glucose which shouldn’t have caused a problem. The volume would have been very carefully worked out by weight for each baby so should have been appropriate. Unused lines are flushed at regular intervals, I’m thinking every week or so for older children, not sure about neonates, to keep them patent and guard against clotting, so 4 hours is well within the time frame.
If a specific drug, that could cause an allergic reaction, was being administered this should be known and increased obs ordered.
I don’t think anything is ever 100% in medicine so there is a possibility of a very unusual event.
I suppose it’s then how likely it is that those unusual events happen in similar ways to babies with varying risk and then that it very often happens right after intervention from Letby too? Weren’t CPR needing events fairly unusual for the unit? And a lot of the babies that survived whatever caused them to nearly die, when not around Letby, didn’t have any CPR crashes and improved, sometimes incredibly and rapidly. So to go from a near death CPR event to breathing unaided in a few hours, also doesn’t suggest a pervasive problem or overwhelming infection etc that people missed?

somehow I think she’d thrive on that sort of attention. Can’t get out of my head that this whole case comes down to some sort of sick attention / validation seeking

Also I’m so glad I’m not on the jury for many reasons. But mostly because I would find it so hard not to Google her to try and find more info (imagine finding this thread 😮 and then looking at beige bonmarche baps to see if she’s wearing kitten heels when back in court on Monday). Completely get why you’re not allowed to do that as it would certainly prejudice me, but my nature is that I’d find it impossible not look something up. Luckily for all the fellas of the uk I’ll never be called up cos I’m not on the electoral register 🤣 partly for this reason 🤦🏼‍♀️

I guess I suppose it depends what the charge is and who’s giving the reference. If you’re trying to show that it’s totally out of character (whatever it is you’ve done) and therefore it was a one off, and will never happen again, and you get someone very respectable to vouch for you it may help. But I’d think only on something that isn’t a massively serious offence 🤷🏼‍♀️

Agree with the poster who replied to this! A card naming individual people (if you can remember names, descriptions also fine!) is probably the loveliest thing you could do. We were recently gifted £500 by a family who said they wanted to treat us all to a coffee and cake morning, but management decided that the money would be better spent on equipment for the hospital 🙃 which yes I’m sure it would, but it just felt all kinds of wrong that the family donated the money for a specific reason after their baby had died, and it’s now being used for something else that they didn’t intend it to be used for.

So yeah, a handwritten card goes miles! We truly do cherish those.
Not that we didn’t cherish the money sent, it just felt like it was unfair to the family who donated it!

The year is 2004. I own a Suzuki Swift and at least two pairs of kitten heel type shoes. There are definitely sequin vest tops in my wardrobe. I saved them for outings with a group of individuals I'd known from school, most (not all) of whom fit the category of basic witch. All the while living my other, truer, alternative/goth lifestyle the rest of the time 😅.

I was surprised to discover Chester has a Rosie O'B's. So 2001. Ra-ra skirts, neon leg warmers a go-go. Ahhh simpler times.

I think there's a nurse/healthcare worker of this fuddy duddy type in most settings. I've met so many! Frumpy, boring, old beyond their years, could never fit in with their own age group so clung on to the older staff, Kipling handbags and cath kidston lunch bags, not mentioning the Facebook posts with tags such as #workbesties
Oh my bleeping god! Where I worked, there was a huge ward social life, where people in their 30s went out with the people in their 50s, all dressed like they raided the Peacocks sale, and even used to go on holiday together which were on Facebook as #roadtrip. I was a bit of a pariah for having no desire to get involved, having a young kid and having done all that stuff in my 20s with people my own age, and my own friends to go away with. It was like work was their entire life.

I always thought it was me that was weird for not fitting in...turns out it was bloody them 😱🤪

wow that is harsh. I know there was a family who raised a lot of money for the ward we stay on and they got a brand new play area on the ward but the woman who’s only job was to run the play area was always stood gossiping at the nurses station about her recent benidorm trip and her new boyfriend so we could never use it without her being there👊🏼

@stardust1 Naming them is also good with a lil message so they can use it for revalidation
