Just wanted to clarify something. There's no overlap between hypochondriacs and people with Munchausens/factitious disorder. The latter is an attention-seeking thing, whereas hypochondria (known as health anxiety) is a type of anxiety disorder. With health anxiety, sufferers feel extremely worried about their symptoms and look to doctors for reassurance. They genuinely believe they're ill so it's not a bid for attention. One condition doesn't lead to the other.

Hope this post doesn't come across as patronising if I'm stating things people already know. I'm just mentoning it in case people conflate the two disorders.

i can’t get over the kitten heels ! Please please anyone reading this now and doesn’t want to admit to the fact they own a pair of these. Do yourself and everyone a favour right now and get them in the bin or burn them on your bonfire tonight ! Do not I repeat do not charity shop them, they need eradicating there is absolutely no place in society for these not anywhere. Also throw away or burn your primark dolly shoes with the elastic bow on, or any dolly shoes for that matter (if you arn’t 8 and under there is no excuse for these). If you want to be comfy and wear flats, crocks in sports mode (even on a night out) are much more acceptable than either of the options above

I think there's a nurse/healthcare worker of this fuddy duddy type in most settings. I've met so many! Frumpy, boring, old beyond their years, could never fit in with their own age group so clung on to the older staff, Kipling handbags and cath kidston lunch bags, not mentioning the Facebook posts with tags such as #workbesties

And they’re always either terminally single or with much older sad-act blokes with a questionable employment history. The kind of blokes that want “a nurse and a purse” for their old age

The only acceptable shoes to wear on a pole are black patent stripper shoes from St. John’s market! kitten heals stop it. It looks like the riskiest thing she’s ever done.

I do think if she was of this character, hard to tell because we've heard basically nothing about her, I can imagine her maybe struggling with joining in on the day to day chat amongst colleagues and perhaps feeling left out. If these incidents were ongoing, it maybe gave her a reason for them to talk and engage with her more often.

On a serious note, I’ve worked in places where half the nurses sounded just like the last few pages of this thread.

If your face didn’t fit (I.e. too old, too brown, not clarted in contour and highlights for a night shift) you were ignored, didn’t get your breaks allocated fairly, didn’t get the help you should have with patients.

Nursing can be intense, if you make a mistake, people die. I think a lot of younger women don’t have much of an identity outside work and the culture on some units can be absolutely vicious.

I’m starting to think Letby is guilty, but there is nothing wrong with taking your work seriously, enjoying the company of older colleagues, going on holiday with your parents or wearing horrible tops. Maybe she had a three bedroom house cos she didn’t spend all her wages doing keys in £200 dresses?

I am old and have never fitted in anywhere, I also did waste all my money on clothes and having a good time so I’m not feeling personally attacked. I’ve just worked in some toxic places and feel a bit sad that the thread has slid into similar “let’s pile on the frump”. It doesn’t make you prettier if you say she looks tit.

While I partly agree with you, I know what it's like to be the odd one and I've been really badly victimised at work before. Beigeness and being like we're saying doesn't usually result in ostracisism.. In fact I found they were the worse for it.. Real mean girls.
