He might look young for his age but I've always gone by the rule that if their neck is the same width as their head then they are a wrong 'un and nothing will convince me otherwise. Me and my husband call it the OCG neck.

Anyway, the guy is cooked. Whatever the motivations, mitigations or past history he will face justice because despite the paranoid ramblings of a high percentage, we do have a system in this country that means he will be incarcerated and have a record for life. He's lost his kids, home, business & likely lots of friends & family because he wanted to be the big I am and use his car as a weapon. I'd be looking at this in a wider context of 'Why are men (and it's mostly men) like this and what can we do to get a grip on the tide of violence they capture everyone in?' - it needs sorting out. I've got 2 lads and a girl and all of them are at risk of male violence - whether it's a coked up 1 punch murder in a town pub, inner city gang lads with knives, pretend 14 year old road men ragging about on electric bikes, or homeless men who cave women's heads in with their walking boots; male aggression and entitlement is the problem and the problem is dangerous.

It’s a relief to wake up and hear no deaths. I just hope this stays the same. What is concerning is the posts I read on here saying they had friends/ knew people working in hospitals saying four people dead etc.

Is it some kind of mental illness that means people have to rush and be the first to tell unverified news?

Re all the 'poor man was stressed and possible PTSD etc' shouts. If he was an experienced Marine Commander (or whatever) I would expect him to remain calm in a situation like that, not lose control of the car and swerve it everywhere and into everyone. Do we even know his circumstances of leaving the military?

We were there. Live ten mins away. Whole day had a weird vibe to it so we left early - car was parked just off water st. We never miss an LFC occasion. Go to the match, the parades, we love it. Can’t get my head around the fact that we left, just something felt off, both me and my husband said the same. Just been to pick up my friend who had to get the ferry back home. My 15 year old is pretty shaken up.

I'll probably get lambasted for saying this, but as well as the obvious trauma and grief for the families, it's just another moment of celebration ruined for so many isn't it? Sapping the life out of what was a happy event for thousands of people.

There have been so many horrible tragedies at what should be safe places - marathons, a kids dance class, music concerts, schools, sporting celebrations.

Extreme example but my in law's grandmother had a gentleman friend after her husband passed, referred to as 'uncle' by the kids but not related. He was a nice enough man, had spent a lot of time in his younger years travelling about for work and lodging here and there. Recalled one place he was a lodger for a while, said the guy living there was a really nice fella. It was Fred West.

The first thing the police will have needed to do is wait for him to fully sober up before even thinking about interviewing him.
This can take time. He’ll have needed to be assessed in custody to make sure he was fit to answer questions.
Im assuming he’ll have wanted a solicitor. They’ll have wanted to go through as much evidence (videos) as possible to take in with them to question him. They’ll have wanted to try speak to people in the place he was before he got in the car etc. There are a lot of things than can cause delay in police custody/police investigations including them wanting to probably monitor the most serious victims in case the charges needed to include murder. For all we know, those most serious may have been having surgery etc. They will want this investigation by the book to make sure there is no way on earth the CPS wouldn’t charge.
I get the public want answers but quite frankly, we don’t need all the answers right now.
I used to investigate for my local police and I do sometimes forget the lay person genuinely has no real understanding how much goes into 1 investigation, never mind something as serious as this. It takes time.

I knew I'd get this response Obviously I'm not blaming the crowd as a whole, the driver should not have been there at all and it remains to be seen what his reasoning was (I doubt it could be justified) But when it got to the point that he was surrounded by a baying mob, what else was supposed to happen? They would have dragged him out the car if they could. A few violent people in that crowd aggravated an already dangerous situation and I stand by that.

I think if a car is driving at people, the people are within their rights to assume it’s a terror attack and the driver needs to be stopped tbh

I was once caught up in a non-terror scare and it gave me a real insight into how quickly crowds become unruly, especially when the first thought is “we‘re under attack and might die” rather than “this is a standard emergency, no need to panic” it’s well for us sitting at home watching a video of the car from above, if you were in the street and a car came at you and everyone else, you would react.

Probably get dragged for saying this but this forum is starting to feel like Reddit the way some people are so sure of their own superiority and jumping on others if they comment something that doesn’t perfectly align with their own views. Or vilifying and “correcting” someone for making a clumsy comment when we’re all just here to discuss the same thing and nobody is sure of the facts. I welcome others viewpoints and if I don’t like them I just scroll by, that’s the beauty of tattle imho. I do really feel for his kids though, who will be on half term if they’re school age teens and will now be having to face either moving schools and everything they know or having to face god knows what from their peers in school. They are victims in this too and his lack of thought for them is also vile.
