Lots of people on social media blaming Maya for his death.

It's really setting women back that just because someone is famous they can abuse people and it's the woman's fault, the worst thing is it's women who are blaming her.

Re Maya. Her claims don’t lose merit just because he has sadly died. To be blunt, the talk surrounding his death only adds to her narrative that he was unstable. I haven’t followed it much but at the end of the day, her experience is her experience and she should be free to discuss it regardless. We have a polite habit in society of positively eulogising the dead which is respectful but at the end of the day everyone has their faults. Liam wasn’t perfect as much as his fans wanted to believe he was, he wasn’t. Nobody is. It can’t have been easy for Maya to make the decision to share her story, some of these fandoms are so unhealthily invested in their idols so to speak out must have taken courage and she shouldn’t be slated for doing so because of his death.

I guess we’ll see what the truth is as the weeks go on. She said he sent her harassing text messages didn’t she from multiple phones so I assume she’ll have evidence of this to back up her side of the story. Whether she chooses to continue to share her story after his death is up to her but she should be allowed to without any judgement and blame.

I always find it really gross and disgusting the way some fans get angry because cast mates / band mates etc don’t release statements immediately. I’ve even seen comments accusing people of not caring. It’s like they think they owe them their grief. It’s very sad people aren’t allowed to grieve in private, over someone they actually knew. These parasocial relationships are so unhealthy IMO and shouldn’t be applauded.
can you imagine the pressure of a complete stranger coming up to you, and filming you whilst another tells you that they’re only alive because of you? Imagine if that happened to you?

From Mayas book he has form for going bat shit on coke and threatening to throw himself off a balcony. After this incident he chased Maya with an axe and his team sent him to rehab.
I believe everything she says and he chose to do crack again knowing what it does to him. Selfish man leaving his son without a dad.

So young. I didn't like him personally, but it hits close to home when someone who was so famous in your own childhood dies. They seem like part of the world you grew up in. 31 as well. It's such a headfuck when someone dies suddenly in their prime like that. Here one minute and gone the next.

I hope TMZ get roaring backlash for printing pictures of his body. We are so vulnerable in death, especially when it's violent and unexpected. Even if it's 'just a body', he deserves privacy and dignity at this most vulnerable time.

I believe it was suicide and he definitely jumped, he had bad mental health issues and problems with drink and drugs, so sad

I don't think it was suicide, an intentional act to end his life. I think he was so out of it on drugs he didn't really realise the consequences of what he was choosing to do by getting onto the balcony.

I wonder if people are being a bit harsh on his girlfriend. I saw the TikTok of her leaving Argentina for back home- from the video I took that the plan was 5 days, it had been 2 weeks and she was fed up and wanted to go home.
If he had been drinking/using I can imagine it being a toxic atmosphere. Especially if she was making it clear she wanted to leave and he wanted to stay in the drug/alcohol hole he was in.
I don’t see it as her “leaving him behind”. I see it as she probably made it well known she wanted out of that environment and he didn’t, so she protected herself and went without him.
Given some of the things we’ve heard from Maya, I can imagine Liam was quite difficult to be around and so I don’t blame her for getting out of there and going home.

I worked on a show he was guest judge on in August - though I didn’t meet him directly, I observed him as being so humble, courteous and patient with fans and he was well-liked by the crew and just seemed so… well, normal and nice. This is such a shock. RIP

I'm not that comfortable with people blaming X Factor and Simon Cowell. We don't know all the facts and it feels like jumping to conclusions.

We're taking about someone who gave a X Factor contestant a solo album deal to protect his brand rather than her going public about being raped in the hotel where she was put up during her time on the show.

Simon Cowell and the industry in general have a lot to answer for. With the best will in the world, One Direction were selected from obscurity, 4 ordinary children at the time (14/15), not particularly talented but had a certain look and very malleable. OK, they weren't on the front line in Afghanistan but they had gruelling schedules, lost their anonymity, yes, made shit loads of money but fame at such a young age must be a head fuck for anyone. Add to that access to unlimited booze, drugs etc. Then, when their star fades and they are no longer a group, no wonder he went off the rails, probably a mixture of boredom and feeling overwhelmed. And I suspect the support is minimal, if there is any at all. As long as Cowell inflates his coffers, who gives a shit? This was so preventable and yet so expected at the same time.

His ‘demons’ were his to own and deal with. He had access to so many resources that millions don’t have, as others have said. He chose not to do utilise that. It’s really, really sad - especially for his loved ones.

The other side of that seems to be that he was abusive to his partner and for that there is no excuse. I hope she never blames herself, and I hope she has peace from this now.
