She's damned if she does and damned if she doesn't. And the fans will eat this interview up. She's paying respects publicly to her dead partner, in a respectful way, while supporting herself financially and giving his fans what they want. I really don't get the people demonising her.

If she comes out and does something to prove otherwise then fair enough, but she hasn't.

Like honestly what do they think he'd have to gain by faking his death 🙈 (some bizarre claim that he knows too much about Diddy or Beyonce or something similar I'd warrant).

No relationship with any of his family, including his young son?

Without even getting into his vulnerabilities with mental health issues and addiction, he had a known habit for physically escaping situations he found stressful.

He'd been lucky so many times before and climbed down balconies successfully, and sadly this time he was just so tragically unlucky.

It really doesn't do Liam or his loved ones any justice to minimise how he ended up that way, by making out he's secretly hiding in an emu farm in Mongolia or Zayns freaking tour bus.

He's not the sort of person to have wrote a will so she's going to try get a handout.
He very much was the sort of person who would have written a will. He wasn't some supermarket shelf stacker on minimum wage with a couple of hundred pounds in the bank. He was a millionaire, he had a legal team and multiple businesses and properties. There's no way he didn't have at least a basic will.

EDIT: there's nothing wrong with being a supermarket shelf stacker on minimum wage, I just meant he didn't have a 'normal' job where you'd need to consider writing a will at a young age.

Imagine getting a text telling you your brother had died. A gentle phone call would be far better. I do remember the news coming out really fast and it doesn’t surprise me his family found out from social media.

It's very crass, isn't it? That's the phrase they've always used though. I thought originally it was because they thought he'd jumped, but it looks like that's the proper legal term/translation of the legal terminology. No doubt the conspiracy theorists thrive on it regardless.

And unfortunately, that's led to a lot of misplaced hate. I still don't understand why people believed he was sober on the day he died, at Niall's gig, or during all the times he met with fans outside his accommodation; it was abundantly clear he wasn't. It makes you wonder how he passed the drugs test for the American visa.
How do they screen for drugs? If it's a urine sample, he may have got a clean friend to provide one.

He was on a massive downward spiral when he died. I'm just sad he never managed to get in recovery and live a happy, healthy, sober life, like so many people do - eventually. I'm thinking of Bez from the Happy Mondays and that bloke out of Blur that makes cheese, and Pete Doherty, fat and happy living in rural France.

I lost two close friends last year, within weeks of each other, and the daughter of friend 1 told me via text what was happening (brain aneurysm) and the son of friend 2 came round in person to say cancer had taken her after a hard fight. Whatever way, learning someone you love is no longer in this world, hurts so much.

Liam’s legacy will never be forgotten. The effects of global fame on a young man, more safeguarding needs to be done.

Tbf he was the 'least famous' in the band and had the lowest post-1D success that peaked for a short while and then dropped off the radar very quickly. It's also been just shy of 10 years since the band split, it's not surprising that his main bulk of money was not the huge amount expected by many. He was still ultra-wealthy tho lol

Sydney Sweeney did a good interview about the 'cost' of success/fame in 2022, saying that being in the industry as someone famous is expensive, there are many outgoings that celebrities have in order to stay famous, hence why most of them become the 'face of' something. I'll add it here (it's from 2022 when she wasn't half as famous as she is now, but very interesting insights, and relevant to Liam too. He just wasn't in demand like the others and didn't have a strong solo career at all aside from a few singles.

“I don’t have someone supporting me, I don’t have anyone I can turn to, to pay my bills or call for help.” Surely HBO paychecks afford a lifestyle immune from rising gas prices? “They don’t pay actors like they used to, and with streamers, you no longer get residuals,” Sweeney notes. “The established stars still get paid, but I have to give 5 percent to my lawyer, 10 percent to my agents, 3 percent or something like that to my business manager. I have to pay my publicist every month, and that’s more than my mortgage.” It’s not that she wants people to feel badly for her, but she is adamant that the luxuries of the job not gloss over the realities of the business. To stay relevant as a young actress, particularly one so deeply entrenched in and reliant on the internet generation, requires investment. There’s a lot of press to do, and the associated costs — styling, tailoring, hair and makeup, travel — aren’t always covered by a network. She says this is what motivated her pivot into brand deals, taking gigs as a Miu Miu ambassador and starring in an Armani beauty campaign: “If I just acted, I wouldn’t be able to afford my life in L.A. I take deals because I have to.”

My ex was a ray of sunshine to everyone that knew him, everyone loved him, no one ever had a bad word to say about him, he was everyone’s favourite person. Whilst that relationship ended a few years ago now, I still hope that they are able to get better and I loved them deeply, but even to this day there are times it still kills me that the version of him I knew is not the version everyone else saw, and that none of our mutual friends except one believed me. With Liam being adored by a large portion of people who believe he can do no wrong, I can absolutely understand why Maya might have wanted to public tear him down and out. I can’t put into words how hard it is to deal with having to see and hear how great someone who was so abusive to you is and at the time of my relationship ending, it honestly took all of my willpower not to blast him on social media and beg people to understand what he was really like.
This hit home. I have a very similar experience and it’s so incredibly painful and you feel like YOU must be wrong or the bad one for how much other people love that person.

I think you’re right about Maya. I think she wanted to hurt him in the only way she could, to make people understand that he is NOT the person people think but she still loved him. Love never goes away which is what make situations with DV etc harder to compartmentalise.

£24m is what's left after taxes and debts, according to articles it was originally £28.5m.

Can Cheryl not touch it at all? For housing, schooling etc as Liam awas the one listed on the mortgage for her house, so therefore Bears home too.

Considering he spoke of setting up businesses and so forth for Bear, I'm surprised he passed away intestate, and he'd obviously be aware of his own overdoses, so in his last few years the risk was sadly there.

Out of all media outlets she chooses The Sun…I guess we’ll have to wait and see but I really really hope she isn’t going to unleash a shitshow with all of this. Please Kate, for Liam’s family and his son I sincerely hope you haven’t said anything scandalous.

The Sun definitely had something on her and blackmailed her to do that interview, it’s the same set up as all the other ones (Philip, Linda Robson etc etc)

This is so bizarre. When you get a dog are you supposed to never go on holiday?
People will criticise her whatever she does, she can’t win. I would just ignore the jibes and refuse to engage with them, if I found my every move was being scrutinised.

They don't believe in logic on X.
They're sending private msg to Maya etc and I'd assume his family as well.

It'd quite bizarre, and so intrusive.
They are making a truly tragic accident into an interactive murder mystery and it’s sickening.

That doesn't take into account inheritance tax of around £9-£10million...

Money from the trust can be used for the maintenance and education of Bear. The trust could buy a house for Bear and Cheryl to live in but it becomes Bear's at the age of 18.

Am I correct in thinking Liam had ADHD? It's been a while since I've been on this thread, and I don't remember now.

Obviously not to this extent, but thinking back to when mine was poorly controlled, I can kind of understand how this happened. I used to actively look forward to situations when I was going to be alone, because it was the only time I could actually relax and not have to worry about people judging my weirdness, but unfortunately poor impulse control is part of having ADHD. It would start off great with my own little spa evening and something nice to eat, then rapidly descend into drinking so much I gave myself the fear, or spending money I didn't have on random crap that would end up in the bin a year later when I found it in a drawer.

I (obviously, I hope) can't relate to going on a sex worker and class A binge, but I never had the money or space to do that - I always had to be there for my daughter coming home from her grandparents, or to get up to go to work so there were some socially applied brakes. If money, leisure and family were no object, then I guess I don't like it but I can see how it happened.

The only thing throwing me out is that I have the worst guilt complex known to man, which wouldn't allow me to treat someone the way he did those women (including his partner), but...I think it's fairly well acknowledged that there's differences in the way men v women behave with ADHD.

In this day and age…. WHO CARES. Honestly, why does anyone even care who he liked. If he wasn’t comfortable with who he was then he wasn’t. It’s none of our business if he likes men or women in the privacy of his own home.

Also, I took Maya saying identity issues as more in line of what his friends were saying which was he was struggling with fans not connecting with his music like others and him comparing himself to 1Ds success. I think RS and other publications are taking snippets of her statement and twisting it.

I used to work for a will writing company which offered storage of your will so that everyone knew where it was, it couldn’t be tampered with etc.

I could be completely off the bat here but I half wonder if a will did exist that maybe had a small fortune going to Kate/Roger or whoever, but perhaps was located by the Paynes/Cheryl who decided to “lose it” or get rid of it so that those wishes wouldn’t be carried out. Not because of greed but just because of the circumstances after his death. It to me just seems extremely unlikely for a man of his fortune to not have anything in place should something happen, especially with a child.
He could have had a will prepared and not signed it. I've seen that happen before. More likely if he was in and out of the country.

Maybe people will actually take a lesson from this a fucking write a Will. Unfortunately we are all going to die and we don't know when surely it's better safe than sorry...
