The only news outlets that will platform pro-gay/lesbian or pro-same sex attraction content (In the UK and much of western Europe at least) are what most would consider to be 'right wing' outlet. The religious right poses little threat to LGB people in this part of the world, where gay marriage is enshrined in law and they are a small minority who don't have much political pull.

LGBT media is constantly portray lesbians and gays who are against gender ideology as hateful outcasts who no other LGBs agree with, when we all know that's not true. LGBT media is basically run by NGOs like Stonewall and GLAAD who are to blame for all this shit. They developing school curriculums, teaching children that same sex attraction doesn't exist, running diversity and inclusion trainings in workplaces preaching the same shit and advising TV and film companies. It's not a coincidence that there are suddenly nonbinaries in every tv show (The L word reboot literally has the infamous lesbian Shane dating a bloke with long hair in it for god's sake).
The lesbian and gay community didn't 'adopt' any of this stuff, it was imposed on us by these huge global organisations. It started with adding the T, and it gets worse year by year. I'm sure you all remember a few years ago every single Pride event suddenly adopted that ugly looking rainbow flag with black and brown added to it. then the trans colours were added. The most recent pride flag that was pretty much the only flag being displayed at international pride events had the black, brown, trans AND a intersex portion on it. These arent grassroots community decisions. These are guidelines being followed by the media, set by NGOs that exist only to serve the rights of trans identified people at our expense.
I'm gay and I think the gender neutrality issue and sending pre-op trans women (with genitals still intact) to women's prisons is utter BS.

The militant Trans lobby (and their largely straight supporters) have been allowed to hijack LGB for their own ends.

hi everyone! I'm a straight female but at the risk of trying not to sound too cringy I consider myself an "ally".
I do personally believe that being against same sex marriage is homophobic because whatever the reason may be I think the foundations of it are rooted in homophobia. I'm interested in this topic and the open discussions around it - so, I'm commenting here to stay informed and educated. ☺

Should Muslims, Jews and Christians all change their beliefs?
It's not about the beliefs though is it. It's about how those beliefs manifest. Compelled speech with the cake - no, they shouldn't have to do that. Painting a gay man's house? Sorry where in any of these religious texts does it say you can't do that? That's just stupid bigotry, not a 'religious belief' worthy of respect.

Just want to add to my post above: if adults want to get mutilative surgery, that’s up to them, I personally don’t think it should be legal for someone to mutilate somebody’s body like that (and still don’t see how in legal terms, some doctors have been arrested and struck off for amputating healthy limbs on adults who had requested it, but other doctors who amputate healthy limbs on CHILDREN smugly post their operations on social media and it’s described as “life saving” but hey ho, this movement doesn’t make sense and perhaps purposely so). I digress - my point was that if the caveats didn’t come with it, it wouldn’t be an issue. If a man has the surgery to become his idea of a woman but law is firmly set surrounding biological sex, yes, random man, you may have had breast implants and your penis removed, and I hope you’re happy with the results of your surgery but for all purposes you are legally male and laws will be implemented and acted upon surrounding sex, not gender.
Don’t know if that makes sense.

It seems that stories of the recent topic of discussion regarding bank accounts being shut down for being gender critical (that right wing media are just frothing up, according to some) have suddenly exploded in the last week, with more and more stories coming out. It can't be that they're all fake, surely? One story is about being refused to open an account, so surely can't be about abuse to staff.

I wonder if it's in response to the Mermaids vs Charity Commission verdict that's due in tomorrow? And the government inquiry into Mermaids following that? I have a feeling laws are going to be changed, soon, and the people in top positions know it, and are lashing out and flexing their muscles simultaneously. This movement is circling down the drain in this country.

Yeah the non-binary thing makes no sense to me. I don't see how anyone can see themselves as neither he or she.

If all the people who say they're non-binary had never had the concept introduced to them, I doubt they'd independently invent said concept.

I've chatted about it privately with a few gay friends and we all think the same. Maybe they're trying their best to be 'different'. When if they were genuinely different -- ie. gay, lesbian or bisexual -- they wouldn't see it as something to strive for; it's just something you either are or aren't.

I have been reading this thread with interest. I am a gender non-conforming woman who has always been supportive of and taken an interest in the LGB rights (since before the repealing of clause 28), but I would say I am concerned about how far trans rights are going, particularly about male-born people encroaching on women’s spaces.

I look at what’s going on around me and, I don’t know, but it feels as though there was less homophobia around in the 90s and that there’s a resurgence of anti-gay rhetoric at the moment. I think it’s because people see a lot angry TRAs in the news and then take their frustrations out on lesbians and homosexuals.

A worthy achievement and something to put on your CV hun.
I read about a historic link between LGB and lycanthropy that I never believed in but after the way this thread goes a little angrily off kilter the nights of the full moons and then peacefully fine and forgiving the day after, I’m starting to maybe believe it 😬

See you at midnight LGBWfs!

The original rainbow flag is nice and easy to understand (and aesthetically more pleasing). The other one is visually exhausting, and a pain-in-the-arse to think about what all the new stripes and the circular symbol mean.

‘Wife’ of Jake? I had no idea she was involved in the banking business😲.
Read the wikis of these two to support my posts and genuinely the two paragraphs are so utterly useless in English language, it would be hilarious if it wasn't having such repercussions in modern day and age:

From the young age of two, "Graf knew that he was different from other kids. As a young child he was very vocal about his feelings and tried telling anyone who would listen that he was a boy. Graf spent much of his youth "trying my best just to ‘pass' as male" -
So, the plot of Pinocchio, basically?

While training as an officer at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Graf openly identified as a gay man, however she felt the identification was "never particularly satisfactory"
Wtf does this even mean? Mental delusions, word salads encouraged by self sabotaging and dangerous media, social and public alike.

TRA's are everywhere in top positions. On purpose.

The Denton's document outlines this was their tactic, all along. It isn't a surprise, or a shock, that TRA's and trans people have found themselves in top, and very influential positions. The D document outlined the plans to put them there. This is the chickens coming home to roost. Unfortunately (for them) on "TERF Island", at least, people are no longer standing for what's cropping up.

Just catching up on the thread, I don't post here much as the time I spend on tattle tends to go from 5 hours a day for a few weeks to five mins a day for a few weeks with no pattern and I struggle to keep up with threads 😂

I'm bi and had quite a chill coming out - I had a couple actually, as a teenager I came out as bi which my mom was fine with (didn't tell any other family) and obviously my friends were fine with it. I was always more attracted to women though so I had quite a few years of "am I really gay? Am I just pretending to like men?" - not helped by the fact that straight friends kept saying I liked so few men that I must actually be a lesbian. This also coincided with tumblr's discovery of comphet (compulsory heterosexuality - basically the idea that lesbians are forced into thinking they like men by society, and may have crushes on unattainable men or fictional men as a result). So I thought I was gay for a while and actually really struggled with it, as there were guys I was attracted to (and had brief relationships with) but I couldn't tell whether my anxiety about the physical side of things was because I'd never done it before, or because I was actually gay. Anyway I figured it out eventually, re-came out as bi and now I'm in a long term relationship with a woman. I know some people think flip-flopping and preoccupation with labels is just navel-gazing but for me it was really confusing that I just didn't know who I was.

ETA: casually feminine! I suppose I broadly agree with that categorisation 😄

Look how nice and tolerant Pride events are being. Banning those that are vocal about being same-sex attracted (aka GAY) and prioritising those that tell those people that they just haven’t found the right “girl dick” or front hole” yet.

And people still say the LGB Alliance isn’t needed? Well who the fuck are we meant to turn to then when our own organisations are gaslighting us so blatantly?

Apologies for anybody that gets upsets reading some of the homophobia in the Twitter comments. Sadly, this is just par for the course for this mob who curiously go straight to homophobia to defend TRA motive.

Makes perfect sense to me. This whole thing wouldn’t bother me half so much if laws were clear when referring to males and females that they were referring to m/f in the biological sense of the words. I can’t believe that we‘ve got to a place where in discussing Equalities Act, people are arguing over the definition of the word ‘sex’, as in ‘single sex spaces’. It should be abundantly clear that sex is immutable.

@Lovely - Yes sadly Pride events can be overly sexual. I've never gone with anyone who dresses in fetish gear, but it does happen. I think it's less common in certain cities than others, but I can see why that puts you off.

@HockyRorror - I'm fine with being called a boring gay! There are a lot worse things to be called. 😂

@Em_gardener - Interesting to hear your perspective. I'm like you - ie live and let live for adults, but I don't agree with transitioning before age 18 as I don't feel anyone is mature enough to make a decision like that before they're an adult.

I have no issue with teaching about different sexual orientations in school (from secondary onwards) as I know what it was like being gay in my early teens and feeling completely invisible and like PSHE lessons (where they assumed every pupil was straight) were largely irrelevant to me. It winds me up when ultra religious types act like even mentioning sexual orientation is brainwashing children/teens, given it should always be done from an educational perspective and it's impossible to make anyone gay, lesbian or bi anyway.

It's not a case of "you must be gay!" it's more like "some people are straight, some are bi, some are gay and whatever you are, it's fine". But even that would be deemed too extreme for some.

Also, it's lovely to see some new posters here. I love a good natter/discussion - regardless of people's perspectives. :D

By genuine I mean someone who genuinely feels they're in the wrong body and transitions, including gender reassignment surgery, to the opposite sex after therapy. I know there are some detransitioners, but the majority of people who transition are then more comfortable in their skin afterwards. I don't believe anyone takes that step lightly and without consideration.
That’s your definition of genuine. But in todays society it’s now socially and at times, legally acceptable for people who have had absolutely no surgery whatsoever, and don’t even attempt to “appear as the opposite sex” to be classed as such. And we are told (loudly, and routinely) this is genuine because they say it’s genuine. Genuinely, if I told people I was 10 foot 11 they’d think I was crazyI’m 5’9.

I don't see the issue here. If someone wants to have gender reassignment surgery and feels better off for it, then who am I to argue? I'm not going to tell someone they shouldn't do that if they feel it's right. It's their body.

There’s an 18 year old woman in court at the moment, suing a hospital for cutting off her breasts when she was 13 years old because at the time she said she was trans and wanted to be a boy, and doctors complied, and now she bitterly and depressingly regrets it. I do wonder if you’d be able to look her in the eyes and casually say what you said above with such ease? I would personally limit any surgery above the age of 25 but in line with laws then 18 years+ only.

I also don't get the "how dare you?" bit. This place does have more right wingers in my experience. They're free to be of that opinion and are free to post about it, just as I'm free to post what I did. I question that everyone here is supportive, but we don't have to agree on that point, as perceptions are clearly going to differ from person to person.
---
No, that wasn’t my point. At all. You posted in a way akin to “this thread was posted by me as an LGB supportive thread but some of you lot are being unsupportive to me”. Disagreement isn’t unsupportive. Just because people don’t agree with you doesn’t mean they still don’t have common ground. It’s clear we are never going to agree on this (as long as you don’t change your mind - I won’t). It’s also clear this is going to continue to be a main topic on this thread for various reasons already explained in the thread previously. You are always going to face disagreement in your thread when this topic pops up again, and you make a comment on it, because of how contentious it is.

And you pass it off as a cheap argument as people being right wing. Maybe some people are? Who cares? We’re not Spain, or France, or any other European country where right wing tilters on the throes of actual nazi behaviour. Our equivalent to that would be the BNP, who no longer exist, or to a lesser extent UKIP, who are nowhere near in power. You are describing Conservatives as being right wing. But in this country, the “right wing” as you call it wrote same sex marriage into law. So… not getting it…
---
@Metropolis No, it comes from the fact that I think many trans people are genuine and just want to live their lives as they see fit. On the contrary, I'm told on here often that, as a gay man, trans ideology does have an impact on me - because apparently I'm meant to be told I have to sleep with trans men.

People can call me names, say I'm wrong, whatever they want. But I have my views and I'm sticking to them.
Good. But also understand, people disagree with you and will tell you why. And it’s not homophobia or being unsupportive, it’s disagreement. Why you’re so confident in accusing LGB and supporters posting on an LGB thread of being right wing is utterly beyond me, but they’re your views and you are apparently sticking to them.

Has anyone actually said that though? I remember writing it to you in a way to say “imagine if this happened” as an example of how it happens to lesbians, but I don’t recall anyone telling you you must sleep with trans men??

As an alternative example, I’ll give this: There’s a charity/prize fund for gay men to get into building, because the building industry feels it needs to extend its diversity quota. The winner is a married (to a woman) man of 40, with four kids. He identifies as queer. He wins 10 grand.

In what way is that fair to gay men? And don’t say things like this wouldn’t happen. Because they have.

Right, but that’s other countries, whose citizens can choose their own laws in accordance with their social mores. I want to know how and where I can direct my attention to ensure equality under the law in “my” societies (UK, France) - I should have been clearer about that, given that posters can come from all over the world.
The UK and France are in legal terms, some of the most advanced in the world for gay rights.

But only 6 years ago, me and half my friends didn’t have the right to legally get married. Something to think about.

No….just NO

I've gotta ask given your avatar - but are you THE HeadlessPostman from SayHey? :D I don't post there much myself anymore, but I recognise the username!

On topic, I'm getting so sick of the Pride criticism which is veering into general homophobia. I'm not talking about people who are solely objecting to it on gender grounds, as I understand that concern, I'm talking about those whose masks are slipping and taking advantage of the general Pride criticism to be homophobic. Really brings home how many people you think are tolerant but, once they feel safe giving their real views, they spew them easily.

Really makes me feel down and makes me realise some people who I thought were tolerant actually aren't (and I don't buy them saying they've recently changed their minds, I think they were always like that). It's the same with the migrant crisis - all the racists are unmasking themselves. Again, I'm not meaning those who have genuine concerns about migration numbers, I've just heard some actual racist slurs from people who I thought I knew better. We're definitely lurching towards the right more than ever and it's scary.
