Wow! That’s expensive. I’m learning with a local instructor who’s been doing it for 39 years so he’s just ticking over until he retires next year. Even when I was with the AA I only paid £40 for two hours.
The average is actually £35 an hour where I am right now, all the instructors prices went straight up to make back the loss from not working. My bank account is sobbing.

Yep feel you here, my daughters lessons are costing me £50 for an hour and a half.. wahhhh 😭😭 got to take what you’re given as we’re in a village and everyone’s waiting lists are huge so couldn’t afford to shop around so to speak 😔

In London I was paying £23/hour if I booked a block of ten (I guess there’s a lot of instructors around so have to be competitive?). We’ve moved and I’m fairly rural now so paying £28/hour. Im fortunate that I think I’ll only need another 15-20 to get my confidence back up 😬

Mine sells blocks of ten but it doesn’t work out any cheaper so I pay weekly.

How much does everyone pay for an hour? Mines £18.
Mines 28 😱

Has anyone done their test in their own car rather than an instructors? I’ve never considered it but maybe I should?

My lessons are £30 an hour, when I first started with my instructor they were either £27 or £28. She raised them slightly as she decided to take another day off in the week as she used to only have one day off, plus they have to buy all their own sanitiser and stuff so it makes sense!

I read the other day the pass rate in my area is only 36% 😂 But tbh most areas are under 50% so it's quite normal I suppose. My test route is one of the worst apparently as it's in a city and there's soooo many roundabouts! My test is next week, I'm bloody terrified 😂

I pay £280 for 10 hours. I put £200 in my DL fund every month and £200 in my car fund. I've had to dip into my DL fund this month due to vets fees 😬

The pass rate for my test centre is 47%, I think that's average?! I was reading reviews the other day and people are saying they fail you for minors so that's got me worried. Best of luck for your test! x

I did mine in my own car, I did most of my lessons in my own car too (with my parents and also with my driving instructor) I was much more comfortable.
A lot of people take their tests in their own cars, you don't have to go for your actual test with a driving instructor, as long as you have someone with you who fits the criteria to accompany a learner, its absolutely fine.

Yes, here in Canada that is standard. Lessons in instructors car and then test in yours if you have one. At least you "know" the vehicle.

Please tell me it’s normal to have a tit lesson a week before your test 😂 right at the start of my lesson today I was approaching the roundabouts far too fast I dunno what was going on lol. Then my manoeuvres weren’t as good as normal so now I’m dreading my test next week 🙄 it’s really put me on a downer even though it shouldnt

It’s normal to have lessons like this anytime. Mine was tit on Friday and I got a good telling off for flying up to a roundabout 😅just waiting for my test too.

I think it's really common. My last lesson before my test I was awful, I made loads of silly mistakes and I genuinely thought I had made a mistake booking my test, I was a wreck! My instructor texted me and said not to let it get me down and that he wouldn't have told me to book my test if I wasn't capable and that everyone has bad lessons and he was right, I passed first time. Take is as a learning lesson, you know what you did wrong and won't do it next time, your instructor has faith in you or they wouldn't have told you to book your test xx

As others have said, do not let this get you down at all. I was out of control on the lesson the hour before my test, I just fell apart. Me and my driving instructor had a break and a good chat, and I managed to calm myself down and passed my test with 3 minor errors. I only passed a month ago, and I love driving now, but I used to dread my lessons and try and think of every excuse not to go. I was a very nervous driver, i over thought everything. My driving instructor used to say that my driving was perfect when we were on the way back to my house and I knew where I was going without him giving me instructions, but as soon as he gave me an instruction I would crumble and do things in the wrong order, or try and do things too fast and mess them up. On my test, I probably sounded like a right weirdo but as soon as I got an instruction, I would repeat it and then talk myself through it, sometimes in my head and sometimes out loud.

To anyone else who is struggling with particular things, tell your instructor and ask for a lesson solely dedicated to that, I used to panic at roundabouts, so we spent a whole lesson doing roundabouts and how best to approach them. I also hated bay parking, weirdly driving forward into a space did not come easily to me, so we spent a whole lesson on that.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to find an instructor who understands you and how to deal with your problem areas, my previous instructor wasn’t so helpful, and used to make me feel a bit stupid for not ‘getting it’ - I took 2 tests 6 years ago and failed both, and i thought it had put me off driving for life. So I was really surprised when I started lessons in December 2019 and I could still drive, and really just needed to brush up on skills and combat the areas I had problems in. Covid meant many delays, but eventually I got a test and passed.

Sorry for the essay, but the last thing I’ll say is don’t give up, I honestly can’t believe how much more freedom I have, even just nipping to the shops by myself if my other half is out is amazing. You just need to find the way of learning that works for you, as it’s different for everyone! Happy driving guys, I know you can all pass if I can! 😊

Bloody hell you're pretty much describing me here! A good while ago I used to always try and cancel my lessons, it was so bad! I was so nervous, hated being on the road and would mess up whenever I was given an instruction just like you. I also hated roundabouts and forward bay parks 😂 I'm so much better now, I just worry about going to pieces on my test and need to seriously calm myself down about it! I'll definitely use your tip and repeat the instruction in my head so I can talk myself through the process. It's just so much pressure being watched by a man you've never met lol and that 40 minute drive could literally change your life! When I pass I don't think I'll be able to stop crying for a few days hahaha

My instructor picked me up early on the day of my test so I could have a bit of a practice drive and I was so bad that he ended up just driving me to the test centre like half an hour early 😂 I remember doing a forward bay park, then trying to start in the car in 2nd gear, stalling, then wanting to reverse with the handbrake still on 🤣

I was a bundle of nerves during my test too, i had 2 minors for most of the test, then got 5 minors in the last 5 minutes. My instructor had told me that if I was too stressed, I could always ask to stop for a bit and when I did, the examinor said no because all was left to was the maneuvre. I did awful (like bang in the middle of two bays, I don't even know how I did it) and had a little cry 🤣 The examinor was a lovely lady who gave me a pep talk "one strong woman to another", how I needed more confidence because I was clearly a good driver. I still cringe when I think about it but it doesn't matter how I got it 😅 Good luck

My lessons are £35 an hour and I’ve got my first one tomorrow for 1.5 hours so that will be £50+

I can’t believe how hard it is to find a test at the moment! I’ve had a look and nothing near me at all.
